It’s Friday, December 18th, 2015…and here’s The Gouge!

First up, having gone to Yale in search of support for the very bedrock of American freedom, filmmaker Ami Horowitz was instead confronted by an “unbelievable display of total stupidity”.

In reality, it’s a result no different from the reaction Mark Dice received over two years ago on the opposite coast:

Except the parents of the Progressive zombies featured in Dice’s video didn’t throw away $200K for fours years of indoctrination disguised as education.

Here’s the juice: as Svetlana Alexievich notes in the WSJ, the hallowed halls of Old Eli…and the White House…aren’t the only place Socialism is alive and well…and gaining strength like a malignant cancer feeding off an unsuspecting host:

“My father died recently. He believed in communism to the end. He kept his party membership card. I can’t bring myself to use the word “sovok,” that derogatory epithet for the Soviet mentality, because then I would have to apply it my father and others close to me, my friends. They all come from the same place—socialism. There are many idealists among them. Romantics. Today they are sometimes called slavery romantics. Slaves of utopia.

A utopia their own hatred, greed and thirst for control over the lives of others always keeps beyond their reach.

Turning from things beyond one’s reach to living beyond one’s means, the newest leader of The Gang That Still Can’t Shoot Straight has delivered a budget which would make Tom Delay proud:

Tax deal doles out year-end goodies for NASCAR tracks, racehorses, college students

Agreement reverses GOP’s budget gains

Paul Ryan, Nancy Pelosi

“Tomayto”…”Tomahto”, Pelosi…Ryan; what’s the difference when spending keeps going up?!?

“Congressional leaders agreed to a budget-busting set of tax cuts late Tuesday as part of a year-end, clear-the-decks deal that marks a major reversal from the last four years’ focus on deficits and streamlining the tax code.

While the total cost of the package had not been publicly estimated by the Congressional Budget Office, it was expected to total in the hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade — undoing in one swoop many of the deficit gains the GOP had won under then-Speaker John A. Boehner…”

Forget about repealing the Cadillac tax on union healthcare plans, or the continued funding of Islamic immigration, Planned Parenthood, the Paris climate accords and other Progressive priorities.  NASCAR…no, seriouslyNASCAR?!?

This is the way Paul Ryan rolls…at least for now.

As CNBC reports, from the reaction at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, one would think John Boehner was still Speaker:

White House: US spending bill appears to meet Obama’s priorities

dfc48700-ed19-4983-8abf-338211d46885

Whatta ya mean “bigger’s not better”?!?

The White House reacted positively on Wednesday to a deal to fund the U.S. government through September 2016, saying that it met President Barack Obama’s priorities without including “hundreds of needless ideological riders.“…”

The only reason we’re not advocating for Ryan’s bearded head on a platter is the position taken by David Brat, the economist who forced Boehner’s previous lap dog, Eric Cantor, into an early, tax-payer funded retirement and gazillions of undeserved dollars on Wall Street:

“The end product here is just cleaning the barn; it’s a disaster,” Brat said of the spending and tax deal. “We’re breaking our pledge on the budget caps to the American people, we’ve lost fiscal discipline, and we’re throwing it all on the next generation.”

But in the same breath, Brat praised Ryan: “Not only is he saying the right things, he is lining it up to do the right things…and then leadership can’t hijack the budget at the end of the year and throw the kitchen sink, which we just did.”

Praise from members of the conservative flank is a sign that they believe Ryan (R-Wis.) is trying to chart a new course in his nascent speakership. The conservatives feel more included in the process and said Ryan’s staff has been vocal about wanting their feedback. But the lawmakers are also planning to watch the speaker closely in 2016, when they say he’ll have more control over the appropriations process and Boehner can’t be blamed.”

Like Brat, we’re of a mind to give Ryan and the Republicans one more year; after all, absent a veto-proof majority in the Senate, shutting down the government on the cusp of a presidential election smacks of political suicide.

Problem is, when Bush II was in the White House, and Republicans controlled both houses of Congress, NOTHING CHANGED!!!  Fool me once, shame on you; try to fool me twice…and we’re advocating for a Third Party…at least one headed by someone other than Donald Trump.

Sheet Hits the Plan 1

Not long ago we reported on the absolutely nightmarish process of trying to get a new insurance policy through Healthcare.gov after Blue Cross Blue Shield killed our existing plan and – in a letter to the medically homeless – specifically blamed Obamacare.

But we eventually did get a crappy, overpriced HMO policy on Healthcare.gov, and on Monday our proof of insurance cards arrived. Which is when the trouble started.

The two cards (one for each of the senior Jarlsbergs) had the names of two different PCP physicians on them (in an HMO, your “PCP” is the alleged doctor who becomes the gateway to either allow or deny all other healthcare services). Despite the fact that we’d named another doctor during the application process – indeed, we were required to pick a doctor – the new physicians were complete strangers whose names indicated they “weren’t from around here,” nudge-nudge wink-wink.

A quick online search showed that both doctors had pretty dismal reputations. One of them only had office hours two days a week, and only for five hours each of those days. Good luck getting an appointment! The other doctor was a 45 minute drive, and ran a combined “family practice and low-cost lasik surgery” center in a strip mall.

A panicked call to Blue Cross put us on hold for 50 minutes before ever speaking to a human. Finally, we were told that we could absolutely change our PCP doctors because the ones shown on our cards were “dummy doctors.”

Say what?!

“We can’t process the new applications unless there’s a PCP doctor, and so we just put in any doctor within driving distance,” said the helpful (honest!) woman on the phone.

“But what about the doctor I was required to choose on my application?”

“Healthcare.gov doesn’t share that information with the insurers.”

Let that sink in for a moment. You can’t get your HMO policy through Healthcare.gov without specifying the PCP physician you want, but afterwards the government discards that information and the only way for the insurers to meet their deadlines is to make assignments completely at random. This despite having multiple years and billions of dollars to design a system in which the information which is laboriously collected is actually sent where it needs to go.

And then consider that these are the listmakers who can’t keep track of how many immigrants have overstayed their visas. Who can’t make meaningful terror watch lists. Who want to take away our second amendment rights based on new lists which will be compiled in secret and maintained by bureaucratic poltroons at best, and malicious political operatives at worst.

Sadly, if you liked you country…it’s already too late to keep it.

More than 30 Immigrants Admitted to the U.S. Recently Implicated in Terrorism

screen-shot-2014-07-16-at-12-47-52-pm

In advance of the release of Congress’ year-end spending package, the office of Sen. Jeff Sessions is highlighting some terrorists who were recently granted access to the U.S. through the nation’s immigration system. In an email to reporters Tuesday, a Sessions aide listed more than 30 examples of immigrants admitted to the U.S. who were recently implicated in terrorist activities.

Sessions, the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, and other conservative lawmakers have warned against passing a spending bill that does not place limitations on admissions — in particular refugee admission — to the U.S.

“Congress must cancel the President’s blank refugee check and put Congress back in charge of the program. We cannot allow the President to unilaterally decide how many refugees he wishes to admit, nor continue to force taxpayers to pick up the tab for the tens of billions of unpaid-for welfare and entitlement costs,” Sessions and Sen. Richard Shelby, the chairman of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations subcommittee, said in a joint statement last week.

The pair added that passing the spending deal without limiting language “would put the U.S. on a path to approve admission for hundreds of thousands of migrants from a broad range of countries with jihadists movements over the next 12 months, on top of all the other autopilot annual immigration – absent language to reduce the numbers.” (Which Paul Ryan just did!)

The Sessions aide noted that the 30 examples are listed represented just a “partial” inventory of recently implicated terrorist migrants…”

As lawmakers clash over refugees, Syrian immigration quietly tops 100,000 since 2012

gulf-states-640x438

No offense, but wouldn’t they be better served being resettled in areas with which they had a faint familiarity of the customs, not to mention the fashionable faith?!?

“A proposal to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees to the United States has ignited a bitter debate in Washington, but more than 10 times that number of people from the embattled country have quietly come to America since 2012, according to figures obtained by FoxNews.com.

Some 102,313 Syrians were granted admission to the U.S. as legal permanent residents or through programs including work, study and tourist visas from 2012 through August of this year, a period which roughly coincides with the devastating civil war that still engulfs the Middle Eastern country. Experts say any fears that terrorists might infiltrate the proposed wave of refugees from United Nations-run camps should be dwarfed by the potential danger already here…”

GOP Wars: Episode V

Donald Trump (Darth Vader? Luke Skywalker? Both?) landed in his celebrity starship to challenge and terrorize . . . the Establishment.

timthumb

“…Out of nowhere, Donald Trump (Is he Darth Vader? Luke Skywalker? Both?) landed in his celebrity starship to challenge and terrorize . . . the Establishment. The genius of the American political system is that it has built-in reality checks. The next one arrives in February with the start of 50 individual state primary elections or caucuses. Opinion-poll politics gives way to voting-booth politics.

Will Donald Trump, master of our alternative political universe, survive in the real-world primaries? This question forced itself upon us toward the end of the Las Vegas debate, when Hugh Hewitt asked Mr. Trump about the “nuclear triad.”

This excerpt conveys the gist of his answer:

“But we have to be extremely vigilant and extremely careful when it comes to nuclear. Nuclear changes the whole ballgame. Frankly, I would have said get out of Syria; get out—if we didn’t have the power of weaponry today. The power is so massive that we can’t just leave areas that 50 years ago or 75 years ago we wouldn’t care. It was hand-to-hand combat.”

That answer raises the recent Ben Carson question: How much does a candidate for the U.S. presidency actually need to know about anything in the real political world?

…We come out of Vegas with the same question we brought to Vegas: Is Donald Trump more than an opinion-poll phenom? Will they still love him inside the voting booths? Maybe. But this debate and the decline of Ben Carson suggests it’s time for Mr. Trump to up the substance of his game. The politicians are starting to catch up with the starship.

We predict he won’t, and NCC-666, aka Starship Trump

…deservedly crashes and burns…before it takes America down with it.

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to this observation from The Charlotte Observer:

Lack of Democratic debates intentional

The Democratic debate schedule clearly favors Hillary Clinton

There have been very few debates, which have all been at odd times

This plays into the idea that Clinton believes normal rules don’t apply to her
