It’s Monday, July 11th, 2016…but before we begin, courtesy of Balls Cotton, yet another picture worth well over a thousand words, one which indeed says it all concerning its subject:

Now, here’s The Gouge!

We begin with an item recently featured in the WSJ ‘s Notable & Quotable we thought worth your time, namely, the late, great Christopher Hitchens’ insight into the Liberal “Bush lied, people died” legend:

Hitchens on Saddam

‘The only real strategy of deception has come from those who believe, or pretend, that Saddam Hussein was no problem.’

4f1ad0ba9a11546bb7079dd214cc49e4

“You said there were WMDs in Iraq and that Saddam had friends in al Qaeda. . . . Blah, blah, pants on fire.” I have had many opportunities to tire of this mantra. It takes ten seconds to intone the said mantra. It would take me, on my most eloquent C-SPAN day, at the very least five minutes to say that Abdul Rahman Yasin, who mixed the chemicals for the World Trade Center attack in 1993, subsequently sought and found refuge in Baghdad; that Dr. Mahdi Obeidi, Saddam’s senior physicist, was able to lead American soldiers to nuclear centrifuge parts and a blueprint for a complete centrifuge (the crown jewel of nuclear physics) buried on the orders of Qusay Hussein; that Saddam’s agents were in Damascus as late as February 2003, negotiating to purchase missiles off the shelf from North Korea; or that Rolf Ekeus, the great Swedish socialist who founded the inspection process in Iraq after 1991, has told me for the record that he was offered a $2 million bribe in a face-to-face meeting with Tariq Aziz. And these eye-catching examples would by no means exhaust my repertoire, or empty my quiver. Yes, it must be admitted that Bush and Blair made a hash of a good case, largely because they preferred to scare people rather than enlighten them or reason with them. Still, the only real strategy of deception has come from those who believe, or pretend, that Saddam Hussein was no problem.

So why feature a quote from 2005 as our lead?  Because it highlights what is only the latest in a long line of fables Progressives have touted in their on-going effort to undermine America.  To wit, Heather Mac Donald from February of this year assessing…

The Myths of Black Lives Matter

The movement has won over Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. But what if its claims are fiction?

BLACK-LIES-MATTER

“Apparently the Black Lives Matter movement has convinced Democrats and progressives that there is an epidemic of racist white police officers killing young black men. Such rhetoric is going to heat up as Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders court minority voters before the Feb. 27 South Carolina primary.

But what if the Black Lives Matter movement is based on fiction? Not just the fictional account of the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., but the utter misrepresentation of police shootings generally.

To judge from Black Lives Matter protesters and their media and political allies, you would think that killer cops pose the biggest threat to young black men today. But this perception, like almost everything else that many people think they know about fatal police shootings, is wrong.

The Black Lives Matter movement has been stunningly successful in changing the subject from the realities of violent crime. The world knows the name of Michael Brown but notTyshawn Lee, a 9-year-old black child lured into an alley and killed by gang members in Chicago last fall. Tyshawn was one of dozens of black children gunned down in America last year. The Baltimore Sun reported on Jan. 1: “Blood was shed in Baltimore at an unprecedented pace in 2015, with mostly young, black men shot to death in a near-daily crush of violence.”

Those were black lives that mattered, and it is a scandal that outrage is heaped less on the dysfunctional culture that produces so many victims than on the police officers who try to protect them.

With the active assistance of the man sworn to protect and defend all Americans, regardless of race, creed, religion, the pallor of their skin or

the color of their uniform!

Meanwhile, both B. Hussein and Hillary are using the occasion of the Dallas police assassinations to push for more federal control over local and state law enforcement, while at the same time blaming everyone but themselves for the racial divisiveness they’ve fueled:

hillary

“…Neither Blitzer nor Clinton suggested that African-American communities have a role in reducing police-encounter deaths, which usually occur in tense engagements between a few cops and a few suspects with extensive criminal histories.

In general, young African-American men are far more likely to commit crimes than young white men, young Asian men or young Latino men. A November 2011 report by the Justice Department showed that young African-American men are just 1 percent of the population, yet are responsible for a disproportionate percentage of murders in the nation

Clinton suggested that people who disagree with her agenda are racists. “There is so much more to be done…we can’t be engaging in hateful rhetoric or incitement of violence, we need to be bringing people together…we need more love and kindness.”…”

Ahhh…the Loretta Lynch solution to ISIS.  Ya gotta love Hillary’s chutzpah: we’re racist for disagreeing with her agenda…which is predicated upon avoiding hateful rhetoric and bringing people together!  Makes about as much sense as the rest of her hopelessly convoluted and contradictory policies.

Next, Loretta Lynchmob lends her particularly twisted logic and linguistic talents to solving yet another seemingly insoluble problem:

“We must reflect on the kind of country that we want to build and the kind of society that we are choosing to pass on to our children,” Lynch said. “And above all, we must reject the easy impulses of bitterness and rancor and embrace the difficult work — but the important work, the vital work — of finding a path forward together. And above everything, we must remind ourselves that we are all Americans, and that as Americans, we share not just a common land but a common life.”

Based on Lynchmob’s repeatedly demonstrated philosophy, it’s an America where the Clinton’s and any other Progressive in a position of authority are utterly above the law…which means we have as much in common with them as a we do with Bill Gates.

Then there’s The Obamao, responding to a question regarding his culpability in the swelling wave of violence against law enforcement:

“…Obama also used the press conference to insulate his federalized police programand his allies in the Black Live Matter movementfrom popular rejection after the five police were murdered by the anti-cop African-American in Dallas.

The danger is that we somehow think the act of a troubled person speaks to some larger political statement across the country — it doesn’t,” Obama insisted.

Obama shrugged off growing criticism that his own anti-cop statements helped trigger the shootings in Dallas and several other cities on Thursday and Friday. “It is very hard to untangle to motives of this [Dallas] shooter…you have a troubled mind…what feeds it, what sets it off, I’ll leave that to psychologists and people who study these kids of incidents.”…”

Oh, REALLY?!?

Meanwhile, back East…

Baltimore saw steep fall in police numbers as murder rate soared

3 killed, including 9-year-old boy, in San Bernardino

“Police say three people, including a 9-year-old boy and his father, were shot dead outside a liquor store in San Bernardino. San Bernardino Police Sgt. Vicki Cervantes said Saturday the shooter was waiting for the victims outside the store late Friday. When they walked out, the shooter approached them from behind, pulled a gun and fatally shot them all.

1420302_630x354

The victims were identified as 25-year-old Samathy Mahan, 26-year-old Travon Lamar Williams and 9-year-old Travon Williams. Cervantes says the Williamses are father and son.

While the motive is under investigation, Cervantes says Mahan is a documented gang member who was recently paroled. She says investigators believe he was the intended target…”

That’s some top-notch detective work, Sergeant Cervantes…

Soooo…tell us again who constitutes the far greater threat to Black Americans, be they residents of America’s urban jungles like Baltimore, or her more suburban spheres such as San Bernardino: Exhibit “A”…

Any questions?!?

Oh,…and we’re shocked…shocked…to report yet another “otherwise peaceful protest” (as the MSM always refers to such mob activity) gone bad:

At least 5 police officers injured during protests in Minnesota

1468133610106

“…St. Paul police said the officers were injured after some protesters threw rocks, firecrackers and other debris at them. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that many arrests were made.

According to Fox 9, protesters also hurled bricks, glad bottles, construction rebar and liquids at the officers. A Molotov cocktail was also thrown toward the officers. Police used smoke bombs to clear demonstrators blocking Interstate 94. About 200 protesters refused to leave the roadway just after midnight as police in riot gear began to move in on the crowd.

The interstate reopened at about 1:30 a.m., according to Fox 9…”

Our question is why authorities ever let the protest, which started at the governor’s mansion, gain access to the interstate in the first place?!?

As for The Dear Misleader’s latest exhibition of crocodile tears, here’s a montage showing his actual level of concern for those who are the subject of extremist violence and hatred the world over, starting with the 5 assassinated Dallas police officers:

…both of which occurred well before the country had ever heard the false narrative of Michael “The Gentle Giant” Brown and/or Black Lives Matter, The Great Divider was sowing the ethnic-victimization wind…and now law enforcement across the country is reaping the whirlwind.  No, Barry didn’t pull the trigger in Dallas, but he certainly could have acted to prevent itinstead of aiding and abetting such violence.

And Hillary’s already demonstrating she’ll be…

In a related item, the editors at NRO use irrefutable facts in coming out…

Against a New Assault-Weapon Ban

“…An “assault weapon” is the Sicilian widow of the firearms world: a little scary-looking and all dressed in black. Firearms makers themselves haven’t been above using “assault rifle” in their marketing materials, appealing to the aesthetic sometimes derided in gun-enthusiast circles as “tacti-cool.” But the wicked looks have nothing to do with the function of the gun, no more than putting a big rear wing on a Honda Civic makes it go faster.

The hard facts help establish perspective here: Of all the gun deaths in the United States in a given year, the large majority — 60 percent or moreare suicides. Of the ones that are homicides, all rifles and shotguns together account for about 4 percent, and so-called assault rifles account for such a minuscule number of murders that law-enforcement agencies do not even keep statistics on them. The idea that American streets are running with blood because of “assault weapons” is entirely unsupported by the evidence.

We have a unique advantage in judging calls for a ban on so-called assault weapons: We’ve done it before. From 1994 through 2004, a federal ban on “assault weapons” was in place, and it had no detectable effect on crime. The independent Task Force on Community Preventative Services found no evidence that the assault-weapon ban prevented any violence. The National Research Council’s review of the academic literature on the question found that the data “did not reveal any clear impacts on gun violence.” The Justice Department’s own study suggested that any effects of the law were too small to be statistically measured. Indeed, the only statistically significant outcome that could be detected was a steep rise in prices for various firearms that weren’t banned. Political realities being what they are, it is no surprise that Smith & Wesson shares went up almost 7 percent after the Orlando murders.

Many Americans do in fact have high-powered rifles in their homes: These are the very hunting rifles that the Left always promises it has no intention of going after, but which are far more powerful than .223-chambered AR-style rifles, and many of which operate in the same semiautomatic fashion. It’s rare that anybody is murdered with one. The fact is that the United States does not have an assault-weapons problem, nor does it have a general gun-control problem. It has a series of interconnected problems related to defective criminal-justice practices and a failed mental-health system, the collapse of the family, and the predictable spiritual crisis belonging to an age of nihilism. And, most relevant to Orlando, it has the problem of being an open, liberal society rather than a garrison state, which means that its public places will always be vulnerable to terrorism of the sort perpetrated by the ISIS groupie responsible for the Orlando atrocity, whether they use guns and bullets or matches and gasoline.

Some of these things can be addressed by public-policy reforms, but having Washington micromanage “the shoulder thing that goes up” isn’t one of the more promising ones.

In “fact” which proves, like almost everything else coming out of Washington, it’s doomed to complete and abject failure.

Case in point, courtesy of the WSJ, as Jason Riley relates why…

Gun Control Won’t Fix Chicago

Sixty-four people were shot over the holiday weekend. But the left only talks about ‘assault rifles.’

chicago-guns

“…“Background checks, though important, won’t reduce black-market gun sales, the source of the majority of illegal firearms in Oakland, New York and Chicago,” wrote Mr. Cobb, adding that “mass shootings constitute just two per cent of gun homicides in the United States, and assault weapons are not the weapons most commonly used by Americans to kill one another.”

The author went on to cite Justice Department data showing that “in 2014 rifles were used in only three per cent of all homicides committed with firearms in the United States. The larger problem, quite simply, is the superabundance of handguns.”

1768063_three-gangsters_jj5prhncp45p4yqnw6pljvus74oxpy7q62c4u66siw3t6qwph3oq_757x567

Actually, it isn’t that simple. Linking higher rates of gun ownership to higher rates of gun violence is quite problematic. According to the Pew Research Center, 51% of rural residents own a firearm, versus only a quarter of city dwellers, but urban areas have much more gun violence. Similarly, only 19% of blacks and 20% of Hispanics report owning guns, versus 41% of whites, yet gun violence among blacks and Hispanics is much more common.

If the overwhelming majority of gun owners in the U.S. act responsibly, is the bigger problem the number of guns or the small minority of irresponsible owners? And if the perpetrators of gun violence are consistently concentrated among certain racial and ethnic groups, isn’t it more likely that culture—say, attitudes toward established authority in general, and officials in the criminal justice system in particular—tells us more about gun violence than the number of firearms in circulation? Alas, the answers to those questions seem to be of little interest to most liberals, even the honest ones.

Unfortunately, your average denizen of America’s inner-cities isn’t educated enough to realize it’s Democrats and their policies

…be keepin’ him down.

As Larry Elder notes:

“…Let’s start with 2014, the last year for which there are official records. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the police killed 261 whites and 131 blacks. The CDC also found that from 1999 to 2013, the police killed almost twice the number of whites compared to blacks, 3,160 and 1,724, respectively.

Activists promptly note that whites account for nearly 65 percent of the population and that, therefore, one would expect whites to comprise most of those killed by cops. And we are told that blacks, while 13 percent of the population, represent a much greater percentage of those killed by cops. Institutional, systemic, structural racism!

Here’s what those promoting the “police disproportionately kill black people” narrative consistently omit. Whites, despite being almost 65 percent of the population, disproportionately commit less of the nation’s violent crime — 10 percent. Blacks, at 13 percent of the population, disproportionately commit more violent crime. As to murders, Blacks commit nearly half. Yet Whites are 50 percent of cop killings.

Criminology professor Peter Moskos looked at the numbers of those killed by officers from May 2013 to April 2015 and found that 49 percent were white, while 30 percent were black. “Adjusted for the homicide rate,” says Moskos, “Whites are 1.7 times more likely than Blacks to die at the hands of police.”…”
