It’s Wednesday, February 8th, 2017…but before we begin, another picture worth far more than a mere thousand words:

As the WSJ correctly concludes, The Left’s relentless opposition to the appointment of a cabinet secretary whose department should be defunded reveals the face of…

The Real Democratic Party

Why not a single Senate Democrat voted for Betsy DeVos.

All life’s choices should be so tough!

“…[DeVos] can now get on with her work, but this episode shouldn’t pass without noting what it says about the modern Democratic Party. Why would the entire party apparatus devote weeks of phone calls, emails and advocacy to defeating an education secretary? This isn’t Treasury or Defense. It’s not even a federal department that controls all that much education money, most of which is spent by states and local school districts. Why is Betsy DeVos the one nominee Democrats go all out to defeat?

The answer is the cold-blooded reality of union power and money…”

Here’s the bottom line:

Now, here’s The Gouge!

We begin the day with a rather insightful observation from Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, as quoted in the WSJ:

“One of the most underrated qualities of Republicans is that they police their own ranks. If you have a problem with a violent Republican racist, call some Republicans. They’ll solve it for you.

But don’t call a Republican if you are simply offended by another person’s opinion. In that situation you want to call some Democrats to ridicule and physically attack the person with the objectionable opinion.

By the way, I’m not a Republican. This is just an observation. I’ve been watching Democrats not police their own ranks—after the Berkeley violence for example—and it occurred to me that you don’t see that on the Republican side. Republicans generally appreciate free speech, but if someone attacks your family, your country, or your freedom in some physical form, keep some Republicans on speed dial.

Try it. You’ll be surprised how well it works.”

For more on the subject of Republicans policing their own ranks, we turn to the WSJ, where Bret Stephens offers the latest in a long string of constructive criticism aimed squarely…and deservedly…at The Donald:

The Thomas Hobbes Presidency

Conservatives were outraged by Obama’s apologies. What about Trump’s slander?

“First, the obvious: Had it been Barack Obama, rather than Donald Trump, who suggested a moral equivalency between the United States and Vladimir Putin’s Russia, Republican politicians would not now be rushing through their objections to the comparison in TV interviews while hoping to pivot to tax reform.

Had it been the president of three weeks ago who had answered Bill O’Reilly’s comment that Mr. Putin “is a killer” by saying, “We’ve got a lot of killers,” and “What do you think? Our country’s so innocent?” conservative pundits wouldn’t rest with calling the remark “inexplicable” or “troubling.” They would call it moral treason and spend the next four years playing the same clip on repeat, right through the next election…”

Stephens’ point is well taken; as Karl Malden in the role of Omar Bradley observed of his obstreperous subordinate George S. Patton, Trump simply doesn’t know when to shut up!  And like Stephens, Jonah Goldberg and other Conservative icons, including the great Stilton Jarlsberg, we simply and adamantly refuse to act as an apologist for any politician, particularly one whose paranoia may well make him the closest thing to Captain Queeg…

…ever to steer America’s ship of state…not to mention one who, at times, seemingly lacks the self-control of a six-year-old.

Though in the interest of fairness, as Rich Lowry notes at NRO, Trump’s issues often lie more with his delivery rather than the substance of his positions:

A So-Called Court Ruling

Trump’s reaction was wrong, but Judge Robart’s ruling isn’t legally sound.

If the law means anything, the Trump administration will succeed in overturning the so-called court ruling against its travel ban.

The nationwide stay of the ban issued by Judge James Robart, a Washington state-based federal district judge, is tissue-thin. It doesn’t bother to engage on the substance, presumably because facts, logic and the law don’t support Robart’s sweeping assertion of judicial authority in an area where judicial power is inherently quite limited.

This doesn’t justify President Donald Trump tweeting that Robart is a “so-called judge.” That slam earned Trump bipartisan blowback and may encourage other judges to tilt against Trump’s ban in response to a perceived threat to the independence of the judiciary. But Robart’s handiwork is shoddy and usurpatory, despite the fact that he is indeed a literal judge…”

James Robart: more proof, as if any were needed, the Bush family is the gift that keeps on giving!  And why everything else pales in comparison to the importance of Trump’s SCOTUS appointments.

Next up, writing at Townhall.com, Kurt Schlichter affirms what many already know:

The Left Hates You. Act Accordingly.

“They hate you. Leftists don’t merely disagree with you. They don’t merely feel you are misguided. They don’t think you are merely wrong. They hate you. They want you enslaved and obedient, if not dead. Once you get that, everything that is happening now will make sense. And you will understand what you need to be ready to do.

Understand that when they call Donald Trump “illegitimate,” what they are really saying is that our desire to govern ourselves is illegitimate. Their beef isn’t with him – it’s with us, the normal people who dared rise up and demand their right to participate in the rule of this country and this culture.

…They hate you, because by defying them you have prevented them from living up to the dictates of their false religion. Our rebelliousness has denied them the state of grace they seek, exercising their divine right to dictate every aspect of our puny lives. Their sick faith gives meaning to these secular weirdos, giving them something that fills their empty lives with a messianic fervor to go out and conquer and convert the heathens.

And the heathens are us.

Oh, there are different leftist sects. There are the social justice warriors who have manufactured a bizarre mythology and scripture of oppression, privilege, and intersectionality. Instead of robes, they dress up as genitals and kill babies as a blasphemous sacrament. Then there are the pagan weather religion oddballs convinced that the end is near and that we must repent by turning in our SUVs. Of course, the “we” is really “us” – high priests of the global warming cult like Leonardo DiCaprio will still jet around the world with supermodels while we do the ritual sacrificing of our modern comforts. Then there are the ones who simply worship themselves, the elitists who believe that all wisdom and morality has been invested in them merely because they went to the right college, think the right thoughts, and sneer at anyone living between I-5 and I-95.

But all the leftist sects agree – they have found the revealed truth, and imposing it upon the benighted normals like us is so transcendently important that they are relieved of any moral limitations. They are ISIS, except with hashtags instead of AKs, committed to the establishment of a leftist caliphate.

You wonder why the left is now justifying violence? Because they think that helps them right now. Today it’s suddenly OK to punch a “Nazi.” But the punchline is that anyone who opposes them is a “Nazi.”

You wonder why they ignore the rule of law, why they could switch on a dime from screaming at Trump for refusing to preemptively legitimize a Hillary win and then scream that he is illegitimate the moment she lost? Because their only principle is what helps the left win today. That’s why the media gleefully, happily lies every single day about every single thing it reports. Objectivity? When that stopped being a useful thing, it stopped being a thing at all.

So the only outcome is that one side wins and the other loses. There’s no truce to be had, no possibility of a tie. And the frightening thing is that the Left is so foolish, so stuck in its bubble that it has no understanding that it can only push so far before the people with all the guns and all the training push back. That’s the problem with kids who were raised on participation trophies and who never got into a fistfight – they don’t consider the possibility that they will lose, and lose hard.

We must ensure they do. Understand your enemy. Understand that the Left will exploit your principles and morals to make you disarm yourself – figuratively and literally. Don’t play their game; don’t fall for their manufactured outrages. Never concede their lies, never take their side against the people defending your liberty. Most of all, accept the truth that if we let them win we will spend the rest of our lives on our backs with a giant Birkenstock pressed into our collective face.

They hate us. And however they come at us, we need to be prepared to fight.

And remember, forewarned is…

…forearmed!  Oh, and…

And in today’s installment of the Environmental Moment, Bill Meisen and the U.K.’s Daily Mail reveal…

How world leaders were duped into investing billions over manipulated global warming data

“The Mail on Sunday today reveals astonishing evidence that the organisation that is the world’s leading source of climate data rushed to publish a landmark paper that exaggerated global warming and was timed to influence the historic Paris Agreement on climate change.

A high-level whistleblower has told this newspaper that America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) breached its own rules on scientific integrity when it published the sensational but flawed report, aimed at making the maximum possible impact on world leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron at the UN climate conference in Paris in 2015.

The report claimed that the ‘pause’ or ‘slowdown’ in global warming in the period since 1998 – revealed by UN scientists in 2013 – never existed, and that world temperatures had been rising faster than scientists expected. Launched by NOAA with a public relations fanfare, it was splashed across the world’s media, and cited repeatedly by politicians and policy makers.

But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has shown The Mail on Sunday irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data. It was never subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation process – which Dr Bates devised. His vehement objections to the publication of the faulty data were overridden by his NOAA superiors in what he describes as a ‘blatant attempt to intensify the impact’ of what became known as the Pausebuster paper.

His disclosures are likely to stiffen President Trump’s determination to enact his pledges to reverse his predecessor’s ‘green’ policies, and to withdraw from the Paris deal – so triggering an intense political row…”

Duped?  Hardly.  “Willingly misled” is more like it!  As our old friend and long-time contributor Mr. Meisen so eloquently observed (emphasis added):

Liberals can’t touch anything without politicizing it, including “objective” science. Remember when Obama said Muslim outreach was the number one mission of NASA?!? Reading this article, I was amazed at how much NOAA had to contort themselves and the data to reach their pre-ordained conclusion. This isn’t science; it’s the absence of science. The fact they didn’t save the data so nobody could validate their findings isn’t simply suspicious; like Tom Brady destroying his cell phone or Hillary wiping her server (like with a cloth or something?!?), it constitutes flat-out fraud.  And this fraud was used to bilk dozens of countries out of billions of dollars.  Someone should be in jail.

Occupying the cell next to Hillary’s!

Speaking of deranged Liberals…

Wife calls it quits over Trump: Wounds still raw after bitter U.S. election

“Burning passions over Donald Trump’s presidency are taking a personal toll on both sides of the political divide. For Gayle McCormick, it is particularly wrenching: she has separated from her husband of 22 years.

The retired California prison guard, a self-described “Democrat leaning toward socialist,” was stunned when her husband casually mentioned during a lunch with friends last year that he planned to vote for Trump – a revelation she described as a “deal breaker.” “It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump,” said McCormick, 73, who had not thought of leaving the conservative Republican before but felt “betrayed” by his support for Trump.

“I felt like I had been fooling myself,” she said. “It opened up areas between us I had not faced before. I realized how far I had gone in my life to accept things I would have never accepted when I was younger.”

All of which leaves us wondering whether the absence of any quote from Ms. McCormick’s husband isn’t due to the fact he hasn’t stopped celebrating his wife’s decision?!?

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with the Sports Section, and this just in courtesy of some Massholes in New England:

Initial reports indicate the message was written in urine…Robert Kraft’s urine to be exact; though rumors it was penned in Giselle’s handwriting remain unconfirmed.
