It’s Friday, January 19th, 2018…but before we begin, this meme from Balls Cotton…

…tied in nicely with a factoid cited by Chris Plant, a local radio talk show host: four…count ’em, FOUR…of Illinois’ last seven governors ended up in prison.   Just…

…sayin’.

And since we’re on the subject of out-of-control asses, can anyone name a bigger one than…

…the junior senator from New Jersey?!?  As David French observes in his excellent assessment of Booker’s inexcusable treatment of Kirstjen Nielsen with an eye towards 2020

If a conservative male senator had lectured a progressive female cabinet secretary so disrespectfully, liberals would be up in arms.

…Booker’s face is twisted in fury. He pounds on the table. He insults her character. It’s nothing short of a temper tantrum. If he were a Republican, this exchange would be taken as proof-positive that he doesn’t respect women. It would be video evidence, shared far and wide, of his sexism. It would be compared to Donald Trump’s physical approaches to Hillary Clinton during a presidential debate and used as evidence that Republicans aren’t just misogynistic, they’re menacing.

Other than, of course, Lindsay Grahamnesty and Ru Paul for opting to shut down the government in the name of their peculiar personal principles…which seem to change whenever it suits them.

Face it folks: when it comes to government shutdowns, the GOP NEVER comes out on top.  Though why Mitch McConnell hasn’t opted to nuke the filibuster solely and specifically for continuing resolutions on the federal budget like Hairball Harry did for federal judicial appointments is beyond us.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

Where does biased coverage end and fake news begin?

“President Donald Trump’s in-house doctor reported Tuesday that the President is in excellent health and mentally fit to perform the duties of his office. This is unconditionally good news for the country, but a setback for non-doctors in the media who have been pronouncing our duly-elected President a “neo-fascist sociopath” or at least a “sick man” who is “not mentally stable.”

U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Dr. Ronny Jackson speaks with some authority because he sees the President daily, oversees the White House medical team and oversaw Mr. Trump’s physical examination at Washington’s Walter Reed Medical Center last week. Moreover, Adm. Jackson also served as President Obama’s in-house doctor and by all accounts has served the country honorably and well.

On Tuesday Dr. Jackson reported on Mr. Trump’s medical condition and also took questions from reporters at a White House briefing. “All clinical data indicates that the President is currently very healthy and that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency,” said Dr. Jackson.

In response to questions, the White House physician added that Mr. Trump does not wear dentures, is not a drug addict, and has not been ordered to limit himself to one scoop of ice cream. Dr. Jackson also noted that Mr. Trump has remarkably good genes and stamina, has no regular exercise program, and would benefit from a healthier diet. Dr. Jackson reported that he and Mr. Trump have set a goal for the President to lose 10-15 pounds this year.

As for the question that has so enthralled much of the press corps, here’s the official White House transcript:

Q: Can you assess the President’s mental fitness for office?

DR. JACKSON: Absolutely. So, many of you may have picked up on the fact that we did do a cognitive assessment as part of the exam. And initially, you know, I had no intention of including the cognitive assessment in this exam because, to be honest with you, per all the guidelines that are out there, it’s not indicated at this time…

And part of the reason I didn’t think it was clinically indicated is because I’ve spent almost every day in the President’s presence since January 20 — or, you know, last year, when he got into office. And I’ve seen him every day. I’ll see him one, two, sometimes three times a day because of the location of my office. We have conversations about many things, most don’t revolve around medical issues at all. But I’ve gotten to know him pretty well and I had absolutely no concerns about his cognitive ability or his neurological functions The reason that we did the cognitive assessment is, plain and simple, because the President asked me to do it.

…I went through and I looked at a variety of the cognitive assessments that were available. Most of them were very simple, very short. And I think that’s the goal, actually, for primary care providers, in doing this, is to keep it simple. Keep it short.

We picked one of the ones that was a little bit more involved, it was longer. It was the more difficult one of all of them. It took significantly longer to complete, but the President did exceedingly well on it.

Dr. Jackson’s answer to a follow-up question further emphasized that, based on the relevant evidence, the President’s doctor has no concerns about Mr. Trump’s ability to perform his job:

Q Do believe he is fit for duty?

DR. JACKSON: Absolutely, he’s fit for duty. I think he will remain fit for duty for the remainder of this term and even for the remainder of another term, if he’s elected.

This might seem like perhaps the appropriate moment for the non-doctors in the media crowd who have issued amateur diagnoses to acknowledge error. CNN’s Brian Stelter is still pursuing the question of fitness while others in the press pack have moved on to questioning whether the President is heavier or shorter than the White House claims. Mr. Trump’s critics are having lots of Internet fun comparing the 71-year-old’s body to those of young professional athletes of the same reported height and weight. Apparently “fat-shaming” is not as great a media sin as previously reported.

The press is always free to raise questions, even after they’ve been authoritatively answered. Media bias is an old story and readers and viewers are free to seek other news outlets if they’re looking for something more than a howl of rage against Mr. Trump.

But anyone issuing long-distance diagnoses contradicting the available medical evidence can hardly complain when reasonable people call it fake news.

Particularly when one compares the MSM’s reaction to questions regarding Hillary’s health to those concerning The Donald’s:

After all, to the best of our knowledge, Trump has yet to faint…

…and need to be dragged into the back of a van.

Since we’re on the subject of deliberate disinformation and misdirection, in this forward from Balls Cotton courtesy of American Thinker, Karen McQuillan relates a harsh reality the MSM continues to portray as xenophobic superstition:

What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right

In this photo taken Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, women walk past ruubbish heaps and unfinished homes in a neighborhood at the base of the nearly-completed 328-foot-high bronze statue dubbed the Monument of the African Renaissance in Dakar, Senegal, supposed to symbolize Africa’s rebirth, its liberation from what octogenarian President Abdoulaye Wade has called “centuries of ignorance, intolerance and racism.” Instead, the monument has fueled outrage among a poverty-stricken population struggling to survive in an expensive city slammed by electricity blackouts, flooding and water shortages.

“Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town.  Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, “a fecalized environment.”

In plain English: s— is everywhere.  People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water.  He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water.  Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later, liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country.  Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.

Last time I was in Paris, I saw a beautiful African woman in a grand boubou have her child defecate on the sidewalk next to Notre Dame Cathedral.  The French police officer, ten steps from her, turned his head not to see.

I have seen.  I am not turning my head and pretending unpleasant things are not true.

Senegal was not a hellhole.  Very poor people can lead happy, meaningful lives in their own cultures’ terms.  But they are not our terms.  The excrement is the least of it.  Our basic ideas of human relations, right and wrong, are incompatible.

As a twenty-one-year-old starting out in the Peace Corps, I loved Senegal.  In fact, I was euphoric.  I quickly made friends and had an adopted family.  I relished the feeling of the brotherhood of man.  People were open, willing to share their lives and, after they knew you, their innermost thoughts.

The longer I lived there, the more I understood: it became blindingly obvious that the Senegalese are not the same as us The truths we hold to be self-evident are not evident to the Senegalese.  How could they be?  Their reality is totally different.  You can’t understand anything in Senegal using American terms.

…We hear a lot about the kleptocratic elites of Africa.  The kleptocracy extends through the whole society My town had a medical clinic donated by international agencies.  The medicine was stolen by the medical workers and sold to the local store.  If you were sick and didn’t have money, drop dead.  That was normal.

So here in the States, when we discovered that my 98-year-old father’s Muslim health aide from Nigeria had stolen his clothes and wasn’t bathing him, I wasn’t surprised.  It was familiar.

In Senegal, corruption ruled, from top to bottom.  Go to the post office, and the clerk would name an outrageous price for a stamp.  After paying the bribe, you still didn’t know it if it would be mailed or thrown out.  That was normal.

The more I worked there and visited government officials doing absolutely nothing, (Editor’s note: so there are some things the U.S. has in common with Senegal!) the more I realized that no one in Senegal had the idea that a job means work.  A job is something given to you by a relative.  It provides the place where you steal everything to give back to your family.

I couldn’t wait to get home.  So why would I want to bring Africa here?  Non-Westerners do not magically become American by arriving on our shores with a visa.

For the rest of my life, I enjoyed the greatest gift of the Peace Corps: I love and treasure America more than ever.  I take seriously my responsibility to defend our culture and our country and pass on the American heritage to the next generation.

African problems are made worse by our aid efforts.  Senegal is full of smart, capable people.  They will eventually solve their own country’s problems.  They will do it on their terms, not ours.  The solution is not to bring Africans here.

We are lectured by Democrats that we must privilege third-world immigration by the hundred million with chain migration.  They tell us we must end America as a white, Western, Judeo-Christian, capitalist nation – to prove we are not racist.  I don’t need to prove a thing Leftists want open borders because they resent whites, resent Western achievements, and hate America.  They want to destroy America as we know it.

As President Trump asked, why would we do that?

We have the right to choose what kind of country to live in.  I was happy to donate a year of my life as a young woman to help the poor Senegalese.  I am not willing to donate my country.

BO, say it ain’t so, BO!

Next up, as featured in the WSJ, John Bolton urges America to look…

Beyond the Iran Nuclear Deal

U.S. policy should be to end the Islamic Republic before its 40th anniversary.

“President Trump seemingly served notice Friday that the days are dwindling for Barack Obama’s Iran agreement. Although deal proponents also gained time to pursue “fixes,” this is a forlorn option. No fix will remedy the diplomatic Waterloo Mr. Obama negotiated. Democrats will reject anything that endangers his prized international contrivance, and the Europeans are more interested in trade with Tehran than a stronger agreement.

There is an even more fundamental obstacle: Iran. Negotiating with Congress and Europe will not modify the actual deal’s terms, which Iran (buttressed by Russia and China) has no interest in changing. Increased inspections, for example, is a nonstarter for Tehran. Mr. Obama gave the ayatollahs what they wanted; they will not give it back.

Most important, there is no evidence Iran’s intention to obtain deliverable nuclear weapons has wavered. None of the proposed “fixes” change this basic, unanswerable reality.

Spending the next 120 days negotiating with ourselves will leave the West mired in stasis. Mr. Trump correctly sees Mr. Obama’s deal as a massive strategic blunder, but his advisers have inexplicably persuaded him not to withdraw. Last fall, deciding whether to reimpose sanctions and decertify the deal under the Corker-Cardin legislation, the administration also opted to keep the door open to “fixes”—a punt on third down. Let’s hope Friday’s decision is not another punt.

Putting lipstick on this deal will not fix it. Why would Democrats facilitate Mr. Trump’s inclinations to withdraw from the deal entirely? If he’s going to abrogate it, why be complicit by adding new conditions that Iran will fail to meet? Sen. Ben. Cardin has correctly observed the president already has all the authority he needs.

America’s declared policy should be ending Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution before its 40th anniversary…”

This is akin to Liberals in Great Britain continuing to defend Neville Chamberlain’s Munich Agreement well after Hitler had invaded France.

Moving on, writing at PJ Media and as forwarded by The Boss, Michael Walsh wonders…

What’s the Matter with California?

This just in from what was once the best state in the Union:

Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, where nearly one out of five residents is poor. That’s according to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes non-cash government assistance as a form of income.

Given robust job growth and the prosperity generated by several industries, it’s worth asking why California has fallen behind, especially when the state’s per-capita GDP increased approximately twice as much as the U.S. average over the five years ending in 2016 (12.5%, compared with 6.27%).

The Left’s first, last and only instinct is to throw more money at the problem, but California’s already done that, and guess what?

It’s not as though California policymakers have neglected to wage war on poverty. Sacramento and local governments have spent massive amounts in the cause. Several state and municipal benefit programs overlap with one another; in some cases, individuals with incomes 200% above the poverty line receive benefits. California state and local governments spent nearly $958 billion from 1992 through 2015 on public welfare programs, including cash-assistance payments, vendor payments and “other public welfare,” according to the Census Bureau. California, with 12% of the American population, is home today to about one in three of the nation’s welfare recipients.

The generous spending, then, has not only failed to decrease poverty; it actually seems to have made it worse.

The progressives who control every aspect of the state’s government are not necessarily stupid people, but they are malign. They understand that increasing welfare spending only encourages the arrival of more recipients on whom to spend it, and the high likelihood that those new constituents will vote Democrat as soon as they are able, legally or otherwise. Already, some 55 percent of “immigrants” receive means-tested benefits, while only 30 percent of native Californians do so…”

Trust us, that was a rhetorical question.

In a directly related item also forwarded by The Boss, the Los Angeles Times is reporting…

California bullet train cost surges by $2.8 billion: ‘Worst-case scenario has happened

“The estimated cost of building 119 miles of bullet train track in the Central Valley has jumped to $10.6 billion, an increase of $2.8 billion from the current budget and up from about $6 billion originally. The new calculation takes into account a number of intractable problems encountered by the state rail agency. It raises profoundly difficult questions about how the state will complete what is considered the nation’s largest infrastructure project with the existing funding sources.

The new estimate was presented Tuesday by Roy Hill, who leads the main consulting firm on the project, WSP (formerly Parson Brinckerhoff)…“The worst-case scenario has happened,” Hill bluntly told the rail authority’s board at its regular monthly meeting.

The board also voted Tuesday to name Brian Kelly as its new chief executive. As secretary of the California Transportation Agency, he had been deeply involved in the project.

The sobering news about the cost increases was long forewarned, though rail authority Chairman Dan Richard has consistently rejected those warnings. About a year ago, the Federal Railroad Administration issued a secret risk analysis that said costs were rising sharply and could hit $9.5 to $10 billion.

Outside critics saw the rail authority’s defense of lower cost estimates as part of an effort to politically protect the project…”

Think about it: faced with the task of controlling a project which has almost doubled in cost, your solution is to hire someone directly responsible for the cost overruns in the first place.  PURE Progressivism, baby!

Any question, as Karen McQuillan observed in her Peace Corps commentary, Liberals are trying to turn America into another Third World sh*thole?!?

Except for those animals…

…who are more equal than the others!

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side

Then there’s some more memes courtesy of Balls Cotton:

Hells bells, a family of five could use her pantsuit as a tent!

Finally, we’ll call it a week with a cross between News of the TRULY Bizarre and another sordid story straight from the pages of The Crime Blotter:

Canterbury Cannibal’ moves from UK to Nebraska and neighbors aren’t happy

A man dubbed the “Canterbury Cannibal” after he was convicted in 2014 of attempting to rape then eat a teenage girl has moved from the United Kingdom to Nebraska — and his neighbors aren’t pleased.

Dale Bolinger, 62, a former nurse, was placed in the Washington County Jail on Monday but he was not charged with any crime, Sheriff Mike Robinson told the Omaha World-Herald.”He’s here, but I cannot tell you why,” Robinson said. “Legally, I cannot say anything.” Robinson said local authorities were not told of Bolinger’s past crimes before he moved to the area.

In 2014, Bolinger was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Canterbury Crown Court after he exchanged sexual messages with a 14-year-old Mexican girl named “Eva” he met online, the BBC reported. In conversations obtained by authorities, Bolinger told the girl what sexual acts he wanted to perform on her and how he would murder her.

Bolinger, who was married for 34 years and has three children, set up a meeting with the girl but she never showed up. (Imagine that!!!) The man brought an ax with him to meet the girl at an Ashford train station. Bolinger told police he was “interested in children as food and had a computer disc containing an image of a girl on a serving plate with an apple in her mouth,” the BBC reported.

The Omaha World-Herald reported British authorities were told of Bolinger’s behavior during former New York City Police officer Gilberto Valle’s case. Valle, known as the “cannibal cop” served almost two years in prison after his wife discovered posts on his computer detailing plans to kidnap and eat women. Valle and Bolinger were online buddies who traded messages about their “cannibalistic fetishes,” the Omaha World-Herald reported.

It was not immediately clear why Bolinger was released from jail and sent back to the U.S.

We can easily understand why Bolinger was deported; what inquiring minds want to know is why the U.S. authorities let him back in?!?

It’s also worth mentioning a local news crew knocked on the door of the house where Bollinger is staying. The man who answered said the Canterbury Cannibal is a family friend and is only living with them until he can get back on his feet.

Given Bolinger’s peculiar appetites, were we his hosts, it wouldn’t be his feet…

…we’d be worried about.
