text-decoration: underline;\">CDC raises Monkeypox alert to level 2, recommends masks during travel<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"sub-headline speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><a style=\"color: #800080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/cdc-monkeypox-alert-level-2-recommends-masks-travel\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The CDC warns that the disease has been most prevalent among &#8216;men who have sex with men<\/span><\/a>&#8216;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/COr5qHaRbcY?start=19&amp;end=24&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The CDC raised its alert level for Monkeypox to level 2 on Monday, recommending that travelers wear masks, among other health measures.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">While not on the level of COVID-19, Monkeypox has spread across the globe out of Africa since March.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/medical-research\/rare-diseases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Monkeypox symptoms<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span>\u00a0begin as relatively flu-like but soon expand to the swelling of lymph nodes and a rash across the body and face. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Ultimately, painful lesions form on rash areas, leaving severe scarring.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>&#8220;Cases of monkeypox have been reported in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia,&#8221;\u00a0the CDC wrote in its alert.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>&#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Some<\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>&#8220;Some&#8221;?!?\u00a0 Try almost all!!!<\/em>)<\/span> cases were reported among men who have sex with men. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Some<\/em><\/span> cases were also reported in people who live in the same household as an infected person,&#8221; it added<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soooo&#8230;the CDC is saying <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we<\/em><\/span> must once more mask up in the face of a virus which is primarily transmitted only after <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>prolonged, close, carnal contact between homosexual males<\/em><\/span>,\u00a0or by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>living<\/em><\/span> with those engaging in same.\u00a0 Which begs the question &#8220;why&#8221;?\u00a0 Unless there&#8217;s a serious risk of being buggered while either in flight or going through the TSA line, we&#8217;re going to opt out!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: Once again, people, this has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nothing<\/em><\/span> to do with controlling a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>virus<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everything<\/em><\/span> to do about controlling <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For those requiring further proof of the government&#8217;s true intentions, the <em>Journal<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0Jay Bhattacharya records how&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-white-house-keeps-stoking-covid-fears-ashish-jha-kids-flu-schooling-11654459689?mod=MorningEditorialReport&amp;mod=djemMER_h\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AshishKJha46\/status\/1532504259287187457\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0last week. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u201cStill am.\u201d<\/span> So <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>why<\/em><\/span> is Dr. Jha engaged in scare-mongering about the danger of Covid to children?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">In a May 30<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AshishKJha46\/status\/1531446414194221057\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\">, Dr. Jha asserted that Covid is \u201ca far greater threat to kids than the flu is.\u201d<\/span> He linked to an article by Harvard Medical School instructor Jeremy Faust, which claims that Covid killed more than 600 children in 2021, whereas the flu kills \u201can average\u201d of only 120 children annually. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But Dr. Faust\u2019s data are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>severely skewed<\/em><\/span>, for three reasons.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>First, while flu is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>seldom tested<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everyone<\/em><\/span> admitted to a hospital <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for any reason<\/em><\/span> gets a Covid test. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Between October 2018 and September 2019, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>1.4 million flu tests<\/em><\/span> were<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/weekly\/weeklyarchives2018-2019\/Week39.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\">to public-health and clinical labs.<\/span> As of May 31, 2022, there\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had been<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>897 million PCR tests for Covid<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Second, evidence from audits of death certificates found that 35% of all pediatric deaths in 2020 \u201chad co-occurring diagnosis codes that could not be plausibly categorized as either a chain-of-event or significant contributing condition,\u201d according to a<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/mm7014e2.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\">published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/span> Put another way, in at least <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>35%<\/em><\/span> of pediatric \u201cCovid deaths,\u201d Covid\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">couldn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>have been the cause.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Third, Dr. Faust relies on a figure for confirmed flu deaths that is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>well-known<\/em><\/span> to <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">underestimate<\/span><\/em> actual flu deaths by an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>order of magnitude<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Correcting for the lack of flu testing, the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/about\/burden\/2012-2013.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>1,161<\/em><\/span> pediatric flu deaths in the 2012-13 season rather than the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>142<\/em><\/span> that Dr. Faust reported.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">For the White House to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>amplify<\/em><\/span> a false message of high Covid risk for children <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>undermines<\/em><\/span> public health and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>erodes<\/em><\/span> public confidence.<\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u00a0(<em>What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">little is left<\/span>\u00a0after the Faux Chi fraud!<\/em>)<\/span> It foments an <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">erroneous assessment of risk<\/span><\/em> and is the kind of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>misinformation<\/em><\/span> that leads to more school closings as well as burdensome <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>and utterly unnecessary!<\/em>)<\/span> mask and quarantine mandates.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">There are far greater risks to children than Covid.<\/span> Since March 2020, more than 1,000 kids have died with Covid (an average of around 38 a month), according to the CDC. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">In the same period more than <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>1,400<\/em><\/span> children<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/wonder.cdc.gov\/mcd.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\">from drug- and alcohol-related causes.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>biggest risk<\/em><\/span> to children comes from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>disruptions in their schooling<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">We will be cleaning up the school-closing mess for years, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>fomenting baseless fear<\/em><\/span> only makes the task <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>harder<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>All of which just goes to prove Ronaldus Maximus was right when he remarked in his first Inaugural Address, &#8220;Government isn&#8217;t the solution, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>government<\/em><\/span>\u00a0is the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>problem<\/em><\/span>.&#8221;\u00a0 And the bigger the government, the bigger the problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We lead off the mid-week edition with another compelling commentary from Kevin Williamson in which he urges the Executive Branch to&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/06\/enforce-the-gun-laws-we-already-have\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=NR%20Daily%20Monday%20through%20Friday%202022-06-06&amp;utm_term=NRDaily-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #333399; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/assets\/gao-18-440.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">Government Accountability Office performed an audit<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0of the federal government\u2019s performance <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>when it comes to prosecuting the easiest kind of gun-crime case<\/em><\/span>; i.e., the crime that is committed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>when a prohibited person attempts to purchase a firearm through a licensed firearms dealer<\/em><\/span>, a process that requires submitting to a background check.<\/span> It is a crime for a prohibited person to try to purchase a firearm in any circumstance, but, in practically all of these cases, the person trying to buy the firearm <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>lies on the background-check paperwork<\/em><\/span>, which is called Form 4473 \u2014 and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>felony<\/em><\/span>&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/6ixfcd.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-102650\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/6ixfcd.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/6ixfcd.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/6ixfcd-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>&#8230;that can bring as much as ten years in prison on the first offense and even more time when there are aggravating circumstances.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In 2017, the year the GAO audited, there were 112,000 attempts by prohibited persons to buy a firearm that were stopped by the background-check system \u2014 that\u2019s 112,000 federal gun crimes in which the perpetrator signed his name on the form and thereby provided all the evidence needed to convict him.<\/span> Shockingly, the federal government simply ignored about 100,000 of those cases, investigating only 12,700. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">To be clear, this isn\u2019t a mere paperwork crime we are talking about: According to the GAO, 36 percent of those 112,000 denied firearms were convicted felons, 30 percent were subjects of protective orders, and 16 percent had been convicted of disqualifying domestic-violence misdemeanors.<\/span> These are the very people who should be our top priorities when it comes to fighting gun crime; in fact, the Department of Justice reports that about 30 percent of those who fail a background check are arrested on another criminal charge within five years.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Here\u2019s the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>really<\/em><\/span> bad part: Out of those 12,700 cases that were taken up for investigation, there were <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only twelve prosecutions<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/assets\/gao-18-440.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">Twelve<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Put another way: If you get caught trying to buy a gun illegally in the most obvious and brazen way, your chances of being prosecuted are only about one in 10,000 \u2014 for comparison, a felon in the United States is about six times more likely to die in a murder than one of these offenders is to face prosecution.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>On paper<\/em><\/span>, illegal gun purchasing is something our government <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>takes seriously<\/em><\/span>: It is a felony that can bring ten years in federal prison. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>In practice<\/em><\/span>, it is something the government <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">does not take very seriously at all<\/span><\/em>: Hence, only twelve prosecutions out of 112,000 violations.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>That\u2019s a prosecution rate of one in 10,000 for the people we\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>know<\/em><\/span>\u00a0are trying to buy guns illegally.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Unbelievably<\/em><\/span>, this story is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>worse than it looks<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In a related item highlighting the Socialist insanity which grips much of America, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/04\/why-improving-gun-related-convictions-would-solve-gun-crime\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;
