{"id":103283,"date":"2022-07-26T15:25:58","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T19:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=103283"},"modified":"2022-07-26T15:26:03","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T19:26:03","slug":"the-daily-gouge-archive-monday-july-25th-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=103283","title":{"rendered":"The Daily Gouge Archive, Monday, July 25th, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s Monday, July 25th, 2022&#8230;but before we begin, if you&#8217;ve ever needed confirmation there&#8217;s a two-tiered justice system in America, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span> is\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>it<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ApfU152awvw\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>BTW, questions at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span> point are either a demonstration of ignorance or refusal to recognize reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, since we spent most of Saturday helping our youngest with a home improvement project and Sunday was a movie night with TLJ, here&#8217;s an abbreviated edition of\u00a0<em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, ICYMI, writing at the <em>WSJ<\/em>, Dan Henninger offers a timely account of&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2018<a style=\"color: #800080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-democrats-apocalypses-emergency-joe-biden-executive-order-climate-abortion-guns-beast-mode-manchin-11658348301?mod=opinion_featst_pos3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">National Emergency\u2019 and the Democrats\u2019 Apocalyptic Politics<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"sub-head\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-democrats-apocalypses-emergency-joe-biden-executive-order-climate-abortion-guns-beast-mode-manchin-11658348301?mod=opinion_featst_pos3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">They insist Biden go into \u2018Beast Mode\u2019 on abortion and climate<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/im-589761.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-103304\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/im-589761.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/im-589761.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/im-589761-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>One unavoidable detail must be mentioned about American politics from the aftermath of 2020. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Aside from Mr. Trump\u2019s complaints about a stolen election, something of real consequence occurred: the Jan. 5, 2021, runoff elections for two Georgia seats in the U.S. Senate.<\/span> Amid Mr. Trump\u2019s denunciations of the state\u2019s Republican leadership, Democrats won both seats, producing a 50-50 Senate. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">That standoff is the result of millions of votes cast by Americans.<\/span> Time was that such a democratic voter verdict, however frustrating, would get bipartisan respect. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But not in what progressives call \u201cour democracy.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The central preoccupation of American politics for the succeeding 18 months has been Mr. Manchin\u2019s denial of the vote Democrats need to enact their spending and climate policies. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Arizona Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema also has opposed much of the party\u2019s agenda.<\/span> But Mr. Manchin has inspired the melodrama and party rage.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">In what political galaxy would anyone expect a senator from West Virginia, a state synonymous with coal mining, to vote for his party\u2019s intention to terminate fossil-fuel production?<\/span> Yet last week the party and its climate allies went berserk when Mr. Manchin sank their agenda for the umpteenth time.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>My intention is not to describe paint drying in the Senate but to draw attention to a party that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>since May 2020 has gradually disconnected from normal political processes<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>After Mr. Manchin withdrew his support for the climate legislation, citing opposition to new taxes and inflation, former Obama White House counselor John Podesta wrote the senator had \u201cdoomed humanity.\u201d <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Rhode Island\u2019s Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to\u2014where else?\u2014Twitter to liberate himself from Congress: \u201cFree at last.<\/span> Let\u2019s roll. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Do it all and start it now,\u2019\u2019 Mr. Whitehouse tweeted.<\/span> \u201cWith legislative climate options now closed, it\u2019s now time for executive Beast Mode.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Under a new unchecked and unbalanced constitutional system called executive Beast Mode, Mr. Biden would declare \u201cnational emergencies\u201d on both abortion and climate, presumably leading to an array of sweeping presidential enactments accomplished by Mr. Biden repeatedly producing his signature.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>post-2020<\/em><\/span> Democratic Party\u2019s theory of politics appears to be: The system <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no longer works<\/em><\/span>, so <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>blow up<\/em><\/span> the system by issuing presidential executive orders on climate, education, guns and abortion; ending the legislative filibuster; packing the Supreme Court; suppressing dissent as \u201cmisinformation\u201d; and if necessary, redefining reality, such as the \u201c1619 Project,\u201d which rewrote the country\u2019s history.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Clich\u00e9s in politics exist because they\u2019re true.<\/span> Don\u2019t promise what you can\u2019t deliver. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Politics is the art of the possible.<\/span> Chuck Schumer knew these realities before he was out of sixth grade in Brooklyn. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">The progressive coterie to which the Senate majority leader pays obeisance now <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doesn\u2019t know<\/em><\/span> any of this because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>teachers from grade school through university have tutored them in the nonnegotiable demand<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>These tactics <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>do<\/em><\/span> produce publicity\u2014such as Rep. Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s faux handcuffed pose Tuesday\u2014but a problem remains: It isn\u2019t sustainable. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">An\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><a class=\"icon none broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/16\/democrats-young-voters-abortion-guns-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article in the Washington Post<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span>\u00a0this week reports that college-age Democrats are pushing away from politics, including this November\u2019s elections, done in by the endless, insistent activist wheel-spinning.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>That is the familiar result of displacing the unavoidably incremental progress of real politics with an antipolitics\u2014street demos, constant moral denunciations, or threats of ostracism from the group for imagined offenses. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Whatever else, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>keeping the apocalypse going is exhausting<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>People are reordering their post-pandemic lives. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Losing one\u2019s mind every day over Jan. 6, abortion or Joe Manchin may be what professional Democrats do for a living now.<\/span> The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rest of the country<\/em><\/span> is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still looking<\/em><\/span> for that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>promised<\/em><\/span>, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>undelivered<\/em><\/span>, return to normal.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In a related item, though we&#8217;ve always enjoyed Dan Henninger&#8217;s writing, we didn&#8217;t know until now he was psychic, as, despite a majority of experts on its advisory committee being against it, the <em>Journal<\/em> informs us the&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"css-1lvqw7f-StyledHeadline e1ipbpvp0\" style=\"padding-left: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/monkeypox-symptoms-contagious-treatment-vaccine-11652984213?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" data-type=\"link\">monkeypox is a public-health emergency<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0of international concern, despite divisions among members of the committee of experts who advise the agency, as global case numbers surpass 16,000.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">This is the first time the WHO has declared a global health emergency since\u00a0<a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\" data-type=\"link\">the start of the Covid-19 pandemic<\/a>\u00a0in January 2020.<\/span> In an unusual move, WHO Director-General\u00a0Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>went against the majority view of the emergency committee<\/em><\/span> in making the declaration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Monkeypox\u2014rarely detected outside Africa before now\u2014has in recent weeks spread to thousands of people across dozens of countries, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mainly among men who have sex with men<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> <span
