width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;as to our objective in today&#8217;s edition: To identify the common thread that explains what would otherwise be seemingly incomprehensible individual events.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First, regarding the manifestly misrepresented &#8220;Inflation Reduction Act&#8221;, as Speed noted, Joe Manchin folded so quickly even Paul Pelosi wasn&#8217;t able to go bigger in solar stocks.\u00a0 Perhaps because\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/manchin-saves-bidens-bacon\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=MJ_20220728&amp;utm_term=Jolt-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><em>as NRO&#8217;s Jim Geraghty explains<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/a>, the bill undercuts every argument Manchin made against more massive spending:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>It was just twelve days ago that Manchin told a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/07\/15\/joe-manchin-climate-spending-july-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">West Virginia radio host on air<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0that he couldn\u2019t even contemplate a deal until he saw the inflation numbers for July. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">The July inflation numbers\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/cpi\/#:~:text=Next%20Release,Eastern%20Time.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">don\u2019t get released until August 10<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>. <\/span>One early forecast suggests that the July numbers will show a small increase,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/united-states\/inflation-cpi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">to 9.2 percent<\/a><\/em><\/span>;\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kiplinger.com\/economic-forecasts\/inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">David Payne of Kiplinger\u2019s<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0wrote earlier this month that, \u201cThe inflation rate is likely to stay close to 9 percent the rest of the year, then decline gradually after that, ending 2023 at about 3 percent. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Rent increases alone will keep inflation rates elevated for some time to come.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>So,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span>, Joe Manchin <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>did not<\/em><\/span> stumble across some new bit of economic data about inflation that changed his mind on whether to move ahead with a deal.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Our Charlie Cooke saw this coming; in the middle of the month,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/07\/dont-go-wobbly-joe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">Charlie laid out his fears that Manchin was about to go wobbly<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong><em>[Manchin] has worked on a package that would\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/07\/inflation-still-rages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">make that inflation worse<\/a><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">By most reports, the \u201cdeal\u201d that Senators Manchin and Schumer were negotiating consisted of a large tax increase on corporations \u2014 which, because it will lead to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">increased prices<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is inflationary<\/span> \u2014 and a series of tax credits (read: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">subsidies<\/span>) for energy companies, child-care providers, and Obamacare recipients \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">which<\/span>, because they will leave their recipients with\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/manchin-could-limit-democrats-budget-bill-to-just-drug-pricing-reforms-analyst-says-11657809174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">more disposable income<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and thereby <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">increase demand<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are inflationar<\/span>y.<\/span> If Manchin is balking now on tax increases, that sense of hesitation <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">should<\/span> extend to the rest<\/em><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Friends, it&#8217;s ECON101: Simply put&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sIJBUZm1HoY?start=72&amp;end=75&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Curious.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>More on this to follow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And lest you think <em>The Gang That&#8217;ll Never Shoot Straight<\/em>\u00a0bears no responsibility for this latest federal spendathon, a snippet from Kim Strassel&#8217;s latest entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/manchin-and-the-gop-dupes-schumer-inflation-reduction-act-mcconnell-taxes-inflation-semiconductor-spending-midterms-11659044683\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Manchin and the GOP Dupes<\/em><\/span><\/a> should disabuse you of that notion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>If good policy makes for good politics, the reverse is also true. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Senate Republicans proved that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in spades<\/em><\/span> this week, as their lust for home-state handouts paved a runway for President Biden\u2019s long-sought climate, tax and healthcare agenda.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Seventeen Republicans on Wednesday helped Democrats pass a $280 billion subsidy blowout for the semiconductor industry. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">The bill is an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>embarrassing stew<\/em><em> of accountability-free corporate welfare and government spending<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> This is the priority Senate Minority Leader\u00a0Mitch McConnell\u00a0in June <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>vowed to hold hostage<\/em><\/span> so long as Democrats still had the Biden reconciliation agenda\u2014formerly Build Back Better\u2014on the table. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Instead<\/em><\/span>, encouraged that West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin continued to block that front, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Republicans figured they might as well cash in<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Mere <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hours<\/em><\/span> after that vote, Mr. Manchin announced he\u2019d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>agreed<\/em><\/span> to a $740 billion reconciliation deal <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>after all<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Surprise<\/em><\/span>!<\/span> The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>kinder<\/em><\/span> commentators are noting that Republicans got \u201cduped\u201d by their West Virginia buddy\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>but that\u2019s unfair to dupes<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Mr. Manchin had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>never ruled out<\/em><\/span> an agreement; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>quite the opposite<\/em><\/span>, he said negotiations were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>continuing<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> All Republicans had to do was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>refuse to touch<\/em><\/span> a semiconductor bill <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>until the reconciliation vehicle expired<\/em><\/span> on Sept. 30. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Or better yet, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">walk away<\/span><\/em> from the bloated industrial policy <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>altogether<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Especially<\/em><\/span> because they didn\u2019t\u00a0<em class=\"css-i6hrxa-Italic e1i5tkwa0\" data-type=\"emphasis\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">need<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>this bill, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>politically<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Inflation, gasoline prices, baby-formula shortages and a faltering economy had already provided Republicans <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all the ammunition they needed<\/em><\/span> for their campaign to retake the Senate.<\/span> But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span> Republicans saw an opportunity to funnel money to home-state chip interests, while <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>others<\/em><\/span> saw a chance to do the only thing they know how, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>spend<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Even Mr. McConnell<\/em><\/span>\u2014\u201cmaster strategist\u201d\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>voted yes<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Don\u2019t confuse getting duped with a failure of basic impulse control<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Really?\u00a0 Seriously: Mitch <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>didn&#8217;t see<\/em><\/span> this coming?!?\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>even dream<\/em><\/span> it was a possibility?!?\u00a0 Curiouser and curiouser.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, in forward from the Nickel, the <em>New York Post <\/em><\/strong><strong>relates how our federal&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/22\/government-hides-money-for-illegal-immigration-in-charities\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; text-decoration: underline;\">Government is using charities to hide just how much money is going to illegal immigration<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/6o725f.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-103379\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/6o725f.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/6o725f.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/6o725f-300x164.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>If you\u2019re a taxpayer \u2014 in New York or anywhere in the US \u2013 you\u2019re getting scammed by groups like United Way, Catholic Charities and the Central American Refugee Center (CARECEN). <span style=\"color: #333399;\">You may think these are charities.<\/span> Truth is, these groups are hauling in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>millions in taxpayer dollars<\/em><\/span> \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>your money<\/em><\/span> \u2014 under government contracts to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>facilitate<\/em><\/span> illegal immigration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">It\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>money laundering<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Democratic politicians want to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>maximize<\/em><\/span> illegal immigration, but they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>don\u2019t<\/em><\/span> want their fingerprints on it. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">The remedy:\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pay<\/em><\/span> so-called charities that will do the work <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for them<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Who\u2019s in on this scam? <span style=\"color: #333399;\">President Joe Biden, and politicians across the country including Gov. Kathy Hochul, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and our own Mayor Eric Adams.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Even <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>before<\/em><\/span> crossing the border, migrants <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still in Mexico<\/em><\/span> are being <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>handed debit cards<\/em><\/span> loaded with $800 a month to enable them to pay for necessities. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">The gift cards are distributed by the non-profit\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/12\/bidens-welcome-program-for-illegal-immigrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Organization for Migration<\/a><\/em><\/span>, thanks to money <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>provided by the US State Department<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>After crossing and surrendering to US Border agents, many migrants are directed to Catholic Charities, which provides them with hotel rooms, meals and clothing, and sometimes pays for their bus or plane tickets to their chosen destinations.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley explains that the mission is merely to \u201c<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/thetablet.org\/law-firm-urges-court-to-protect-ministry-from-texas-governors-order-sister-norma-pimentel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">give a cup of water in Jesus\u2019 name<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Who can argue with that?\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Except that the money <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>isn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> coming from the Sunday collection basket.\u00a0<\/span>Sister Pimentel admits her organization is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>reimbursed by the federal government<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">It\u2019s coming from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>taxpayers<\/em><\/span>, who have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no clue<\/em><\/span> they\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>supporting<\/em><\/span> this operation<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two thoughts immediately come to mind: First, it&#8217;s not Sister Pimentel&#8217;s sense of Christian charity which bothers us, rather it&#8217;s the source of said charity: Taxpayers who adamantly oppose the flood of illegal immigrants her work is encouraging.\u00a0 Second, handing out $<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">800 debit cards<\/span><\/em>, funded by taxpayers&#8217;
