color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ait.org.tw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">American Institute in Taiwan<\/a><\/em><\/span>, or demands an end to commercial air travel between the U.S. and Taiwan?<\/span> At what point do we say, \u201cSorry, pal, but we\u2019re a sovereign country and we make our own decisions\u201d?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>If Pelosi doesn\u2019t go, then the United States will have backed down from a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>bully<\/em><\/span>, and bullies are rarely satiated by one victory<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>As regards bullies and those disposed to submitting to their never-ending demands, Geraghty goes into greater detail on the subject:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Many people in politics like to think of themselves as the noble, brave, and righteous types who are willing to stand up to a bully \u2014 and obviously, few people in politics think of themselves as bullies.<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"> But there\u2019s the key question of\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>which<\/em><\/span>\u00a0bully a person chooses to oppose.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Some<\/em><\/span> of the forces on the globe that seem most indisputable bullies are not always treated as such.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">The Chinese government is obviously a bully, but not every American wants to stand up to Xi Jinping, because a lot of economically and socially powerful Americans have a lot of money at stake in a continued partnership with China.<\/span> Corporate America\u2019s quick, sweeping moves in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/corporate-americas-hypocrisy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">offered a strange contrast<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0to the way corporate America <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rarely if ever<\/em><\/span> uttered a critical word about the government of China, despite its ongoing genocide of the Uyghurs, its human-rights abuses, its oppression of Hong Kong, its threats toward Taiwan, etc.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Actor John Cena <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">plays<\/span><\/em> a lot of tough-guy characters who stand up to bullies.<\/span> But when push came to shove,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z88zeQ25pjQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">he was very eager to apologize and mollify the bully that is the Chinese government<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/lebronwire.usatoday.com\/2018\/04\/24\/lebron-james-breaks-zero-dark-23-with-anti-bullying-psa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">NBA star LeBron James shares anti-bullying public-service announcements<\/a><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">, but when push came to shove,<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/the-president-and-the-nba-have-turned-their-backs-on-hong-kong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">he didn\u2019t want anyone in the NBA upsetting anyone in the Chinese government<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">by tweeting, \u201cstand with Hong Kong.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">We\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all<\/em><\/span> anti-bullying . . . unless we\u2019ve got a few billion dollars at stake in the bully\u2019s consumer market.<\/span> Then, all of a sudden, standing up to a bully gets <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>complicated<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">I mentioned Russia a few paragraphs ago.<\/span> The Biden administration would argue that right now, it\u2019s standing up to Vladimir Putin. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">The problem is that one of the reasons Putin is the threat that he is today is because\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/barack-obama-rewrites-history-on-russia-and-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">there was no sufficiently consequential U.S. response<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0to the occupation of Crimea, the aggression in the Donbas, Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 being shot down by Russian-backed forces, and other acts of belligerence.<\/span> Sure, Biden says he wants to stand up to the bully\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>now<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">But if he and Barack Obama and their teams had done so around, say, spring 2014, the world might not be in the mess it is in today.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Everybody <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>says<\/em><\/span> they want to stand up to Vladimir Putin now. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">But even here, there\u2019s odd foot-dragging and half-measures, and a sense that the U.S. government\u2019s heart really isn\u2019t in it.<\/span> A week ago,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2022\/07\/20\/ukraine-fighter-jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">senior U.S. officials said they were considering whether to provide Ukraine with new fighter jets and the training needed to operate them<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">But back in March,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/biden-admin-rules-transfer-polish-fighter-jets-ukraine-rcna19398\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">the administration vetoed the transfer of Polish MiGs to Ukraine<\/a><\/em><\/span>.<\/span> (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Those<\/em><\/span> are the planes that Ukrainian pilots\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>actually know<\/em>\u00a0<em>how to fly<\/em><\/span>.) <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">If we\u2019re going to send jets, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>why<\/em><\/span> did we wait five months?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Why<\/em><\/span> would we send them jets that they need to be trained on,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/bidens-baffling-mig-29-reversal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">instead of the ones they can deploy comparably quickly<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">For that matter, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what was the point<\/em><\/span> of making those early concessions to Russia on Gazprom 2?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Why<\/em><\/span> did the administration\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/07\/congress-rejects-bidens-nuclear-rollback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">try to eliminate weapons systems<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0whose primary purpose is to deter Russia from using battlefield nukes?\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Why<\/span><\/em> is the administration <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/biden-keeps-tax-treaty-with-russia-terminates-it-with-hungary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">insisting we keep a tax treaty with Russia in place<\/a><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Why<\/em><\/span> are we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>going ahead<\/em><\/span> with\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/manchin-saves-bidens-bacon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">trading Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan<\/a><\/em><\/span>? If we\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>standing up<\/em><\/span> to the bully, why are we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>also<\/em><\/span> trying to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>placate<\/em><\/span> him?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Does anyone want to dispute that the Iranian regime is a bully, both to its own citizens and dissidents, and to its neighbors in the region?<\/span> And yet, the Biden administration has spent a year and a half <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>begging<\/em><\/span> it to come back to the negotiating table. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">This administration has also sent out social-media messages <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in Farsi<\/em><\/span> declaring, \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/02\/biden-administration-offers-iran-the-biggest-concession-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">Racism exists in America. Xenophobia exists in America. Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/span> (Because if there\u2019s <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span><\/em> group of people on Earth who vehemently oppose antisemitism, it\u2019s the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Iranian mullahs<\/em><\/span>, right?) <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">If we\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>standing up<\/em><\/span> to the bully, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>why<\/em><\/span> are we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>also<\/em><\/span> trying to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>make a deal<\/em><\/span> with him?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Some Americans would argue \u2014\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/saudi-arabia-response-jamal-khashoggi-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">with some compelling evidence<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0\u2014 that the Saudi Royal family is a bunch of bullies. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">And at one point, Biden made it clear that he was going to make that regime a pariah for its bullying.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/biden-kinda-punishes-the-saudi-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">He tried some half-measures for a while<\/a><\/em><\/span>, and then, once oil prices got high enough,<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/the-wheels-come-off-the-presidency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">the Saudis got a presidential fist bump<\/a><\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">And corporate America\u2019s willingness to\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/06\/02\/bmw-pride-month-rainbow-colors-middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">embrace rainbows for Pride Month everywhere except the Middle East<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0is a glaring demonstration of how its willingness to stand for values is highly dependent upon conditions.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> standing up to the bully?<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of kowtowing to bullies, <em>NRO<\/em>&#8216;s Diana Glebova informs us&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/kirby-says-u-s-doesnt-support-taiwan-independence-as-china-threatens-pelosi-ahead-of-expected-taiwan-trip\/?utm_source=email&amp;utm_medium=breaking&amp;utm_campaign=newstrack&amp;utm_term=28577035\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">State Department Spokesman Kirby Says U.S. Doesn\u2019t \u2018Support Taiwan Independence\u2019 as China Threatens Pelosi ahead of Expected Taiwan Trip<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/6oq7ep.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-103526\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/6oq7ep.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/6oq7ep.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/6oq7ep-300x224.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Really&#8230;immediately prior to Pelosi deplaning in Taipei?\u00a0 Why not just hang a PRC flag from the White House; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-health-and-wellness\/monkeypox-driven-overwhelmingly-sex-men-major-study-finds-rcna39564\">NBC News reported on a study in the New England Journal of Medicine<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0that, \u201cThe global monkeypox outbreak is primarily being driven by sex between men, according to the first major peer-reviewed paper to analyze a large set of cases of the virus.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>In fact, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>95 percent<\/em><\/span> of cases were traced to back to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>gay sex<\/em><\/span>, and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>other 5 percent<\/em><\/span> featured someone <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>who lied<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>OK, I have no basis for that last part other than a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sneaking suspicion<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">But you can\u2019t say either of those points without being declared a bigot by leftists and libertarians alike.<\/span> On Fox Business, this truth was denounced as homophobic because\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;
