color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/fbi-arrest-pennsylvania-pro-life-activist-attack-pro-life-christians-spox-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">extraordinarily disproportionate<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0raid against a pro-life activist in Pennsylvania. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">They <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>shouldn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> have been.<\/span> The FBI\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>thrives<\/em><\/span>\u00a0on disproportionality \u2014 which, when things go wrong, it habitually supplements with innuendo. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">As Stephens correctly noted, \u201cWe tend to err the most when we assume the worst about the people we like the least.\u201d<\/span> One doesn\u2019t have to admire Randy Weaver to see that the murders at Ruby Ridge could have been avoided if the FBI hadn\u2019t elected to entrap him in the first place. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">One doesn\u2019t have to admire David Koresh to grasp that the bloodshed at Waco could have been avoided if the FBI had picked him up in town, instead of going in all guns blazing in an attempt to impress Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Does the FBI care? <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Has it\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ever<\/em><\/span>?<\/span> No. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Since 1935 \u2014 and, indeed, even before that, back when it was just the Bureau of Investigation \u2014 it has been a violent, expansionist, self-aggrandizing, and careless outfit, which sits awkwardly within the American constitutional order and seems almost proud of that regrettable fact.<\/span> Apologists for the agency like to insist that it has \u201cchanged\u201d since its \u201cbad old days.\u201d <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But change requires contrition, and none of any significance has been forthcoming.<\/span> It has been decades since the United States learned who J. Edgar Hoover really was, and his name still proudly adorns the FBI\u2019s headquarters. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">It is what it is.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>It is possible, in theory, to construct an earnest brief in favor of an FBI-style police outfit that deals with matters of exclusive federal concern. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But, in practice, that case doesn\u2019t amount to a defense of\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">this<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>FBI.<\/span> Bit by bit, year by year, case by case, the FBI has turned itself into a sort of unmoored Super Police Force, which, despite being nominally accountable to the executive branch, is \u201cindependent\u201d from political control. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">In essence, the FBI\u2019s pernicious tendency toward empire-building is of a piece with that exhibited by the rest of the modern federal government \u2014 which, on paper, is tasked with executing a limited and discrete set of national functions, but which has come instead to act as if it represented a better, more moral, more legitimate version of its equivalents in the states.<\/span> Can <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> be fixed? <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Has it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ever been before<\/em><\/span>?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The result of this trend has been disastrous. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">In the heart of its capital city, the United States now has a bureau that intervenes with impunity in our ideological and partisan disputes; text-decoration: underline;\">Media discourse is polarized but the citizenry knows that America works<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-type=\"paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/america.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104582\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/america.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/america.png 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/america-300x296.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>This column is still waiting for someone to name a great civilization built by progressive leftists. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But just because the wokesters don\u2019t create anything of enduring value, that doesn\u2019t mean they aren\u2019t highly competent when it comes to transmitting their grievances via modern media.<\/span> In fact, so successful have they been in promoting the false idea that America is an unjust society that these days one can feel almost subversive expressing unapologetically patriotic views.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">So it\u2019s nice to get a regular reality check.<\/span> The latest to arrive is a Wall Street Journal poll showing a solid majority of Democrats, Republicans and independents who understand that we live in an exceptional meritocracy. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Yes, it\u2019s important to note the usual caveat that polling is not an exact science, if it\u2019s even a science.<\/span> But these results appear to be well outside the margin of error.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Specifically,<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/documents\/WSJ_Full_Poll_Results_Aug_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" data-type=\"link\">survey found<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">that a full <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>74% of participants agreed<\/em><\/span> with the following statement:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"css-oqk0mc-Blockquote et9s80n0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"blockquote\"><p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em>America is the greatest country in the world.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Not just above average, not just <em>great<\/em>, but the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>greatest<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>According to the WSJ survey results, nearly as many people also think that the right to rise is alive and well in the U.S. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A sturdy 68% of respondents agreed with the following statement:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"css-oqk0mc-Blockquote et9s80n0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"blockquote\"><p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em>If people work hard, they are likely to get ahead in America.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Some readers may be distressed that the number isn\u2019t even higher.<\/span> Still, given the number of voluble politicos and pundits who\u2019ve spent so much of the last several years claiming that U.S. society is rigged and racist, it\u2019s notable how decisively they have failed to persuade. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The logical conclusion is that the progressive left\u2019s critique of the free society doesn\u2019t square with the experience of people who live in it.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Perhaps patriotic Americans are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>just too numerous to cancel<\/em><\/span>!<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p data-type=\"paragraph\"><strong>In a related item, Jim Freeman goes on to accurately aver&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/bipartisan-agreement-u-s-is-the-best-11663965011?mod=djemBestOfTheWeb\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong class=\"css-11kxzt3-Strong e1i5tkwa1\" data-type=\"emphasis\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2022-09-23\/fbi-beverly-hills-safe-deposit-box-raid-forfeiture-judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" data-type=\"link\">reports<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0in the Los Angeles Times:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"css-oqk0mc-Blockquote et9s80n0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"blockquote\"><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>&#8230;<em>FBI agents drilled and pried their way into 1,400 safe-deposit boxes at the U.S. Private Vaults store in Beverly Hills.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"css-oqk0mc-Blockquote et9s80n0\" data-type=\"blockquote\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>They rummaged through personal belongings of a jazz saxophone player, an interior designer, a retired doctor, a flooring contractor, two Century City lawyers and hundreds of others.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>Agents took photos and videos of pay stubs, password lists, credit cards, a prenuptial agreement, immigration and vaccination records, bank statements, heirlooms and a will, court records show. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">In one box, agents found cremated human remains.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Eighteen months later<\/span>, newly unsealed court documents show that the FBI and U.S. attorney\u2019s office in Los Angeles <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">got<\/span> their warrant for that raid by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">misleading<\/span> the judge who approved it.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>They omitted from their warrant request a central part of the FBI\u2019s plan: Permanent confiscation of everything inside every box containing at least $5,000 in cash or goods, a senior FBI agent recently testified<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s worth noting this gross abuse of power <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was not<\/em><\/span> committed under the auspices of the utterly corrupt, thoroughly discredited foreign counterintelligence branch of the Bureau.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>entire organization<\/em><\/span>\u00a0must be dismantled, branch by branch, agent by agent, and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>entire<\/em><\/span> organization <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rebuilt from scratch<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B9aM4rH692M?start=109&amp;end=111&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; only that allows cultures to be freed from the daily drudgery of mere survival.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Civilization alone permits humans to pursue sophisticated scientific research, the arts, and the finer aspects of culture.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>So, the great achievement of Western civilization &#8211; as if on autopilot we have already reached utopia.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>But meanwhile Westerners are systematically destroying the very elements of our civilization that permitted such fantasies in the first place.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Take fuel. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Europeans arrogantly lectured the world that they no longer need traditional fuels.<\/span> So, they shut down nuclear power plants. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">They stopped drilling for oil and gas.<\/span> And they banned coal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">What followed was a dystopian nightmare.<\/span> Europeans will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>burn dirty wood<\/em><\/span> this winter as their civilization reverts from postmodern abundance to premodern survival.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The Biden Administration ossified oil fields. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">It canceled new federal oil and gas leases.<\/span> It stopped pipeline construction and hectored investors to shun fossil fuels.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>When scarcity naturally followed, fuel prices soared.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The middle class has now mortgaged its upward mobility to ensure that they might afford gasoline, heating oil, and skyrocketing electricity.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The duty of the Pentagon is to keep America safe by deterring enemies, reassuring allies, and winning over neutrals.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>It is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> to hector soldiers based on their race. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">It is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> to indoctrinate recruits in the woke agenda.<\/span> It is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> to become a partisan political force.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The result of those suicidal Pentagon detours is the fiasco in Afghanistan, the aggression of Vladimir Putin&#8217;s Russia, the new bellicosity of China, and the loud threats of rogue regimes like Iran.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>At home, the Biden Administration inexplicably destroyed the southern border, as if civilized nations of the past <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>never needed<\/em><\/span> such boundaries.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Utter chaos followed.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Three million<\/em><\/span> migrants <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>Correction, VDH: ILLEGAL aliens!!!<\/em>)<\/span> have poured into the United States. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">While some cross over clandestinely, others clear border stations without an adequate audit, and largely without skills, high-school diplomas, or capital.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The streets of our cities are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>anarchical<\/em><\/span> &#8211; and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>by intent<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Defunding the police, emptying the jails, and destroying the criminal justice system unleashed a wave of criminals.<\/span> It is now open season on the weak and innocent.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">America is racing backwards into the 19th-century Wild West.<\/span> Predators maim, kill, and rob with impunity. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Felons correctly conclude that bankrupt postmodern &#8220;critical legal theory&#8221; will ensure them exemption from punishment.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Few Americans know <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>anything<\/em><\/span> about agriculture, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>except<\/em><\/span> to expect <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>limitless<\/em><\/span> supplies of inexpensive, safe, and nutritious food at their beck and call.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">But that entitlement for 330 million hungry mouths requires massive water projects, and new dams and reservoirs.<\/span> Farmers rely on steady supplies of fertilizer, fuels, and chemicals. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Take away that support &#8211; as green nihilists are attempting &#8211; and millions will soon go hungry, as they have since the dawn of civilization.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Perhaps nearly a million homeless now live on the streets of America. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Our major cities have turned medieval with their open sewers, garbage-strewn sidewalks, and violent vagrants.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>So, we are in a great experiment in which <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>regressive progressivism discounts all the institutions<\/em><\/span>, and the methodologies of the past that have guaranteed a safe, affluent, well-fed and sheltered America.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Instead<\/em><\/span>, we arrogantly are reverting to a new feudalism as the wealthy elite &#8211;
