data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">here<\/a><\/em><\/span>), I observed that \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no matter how<\/em><\/span> the case plays out, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most notable<\/em><\/span> evidence will be about the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>behavior of the FBI<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> the defendant.\u201d <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Just one day in, we are <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">already<\/span><\/em> seeing why.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>The FBI offered former British spy Christopher Steele $1 million if he could corroborate the claims in the now-infamous anti-Trump dossier.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/john-durham-witness-fbi-offer-proof-christopher-steele-dossier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">As reported by the\u00a0Washington Examiner\u2019s Jerry Dunleavy<\/a><\/em><\/span>, the admission about the offer was made by Brian Auten, an FBI senior intelligence analyst who was the first witness called by special counsel John Durham in Danchenko\u2019s false-statements trial.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>The Steele dossier, for which Steele\u2019s associate Danchenko was the \u201cprincipal source,\u201d portrayed then\u2013GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump as enmeshed in a corrupt \u201cconspiracy of cooperation\u201d with Russian strongman Vladimir Putin. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The dossier further claimed that Trump was compromised by, among other things, a recording of lewd sexual behavior that was supposedly in the Kremlin\u2019s possession.<\/span> Neither Steele nor Danchenko was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ever able<\/em><\/span> to corroborate the dossier allegations. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Moreover,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/durham-steele-dossier-source-claims-evidence-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">Durham\u2019s court filings in the Danchenko case<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0indicate that the \u201cpee tape\u201d claim was a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>complete fabrication<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Because proceedings before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court are classified and ex parte \u2014 meaning only the FBI and Justice Department appear before FISC judges, and there is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no notice or discovery ever provided<\/em><\/span> to Americans who are monitored under the court\u2019s warrants \u2014 the government has a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>higher legal obligation<\/em><\/span> than in normal criminal proceedings to ensure that the information presented to the court <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has been verified<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It is thus <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>breathtaking<\/em><\/span> that the FBI would offer an informant $1 million to corroborate his allegations \u2014 which is tantamount to an admission that the information is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not even supported<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>much less verified<\/em><\/span> \u2014 and yet\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rely on that unverified and likely false information, not once but four separate times over the course of a year, under oath in applications to the FISC<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Just as remarkable<\/em><\/span>: Danchenko was Steele\u2019s principal source for the dossier, yet the FBI did not interview him until late January 2017. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">By that time, the bureau had relied on the dossier information twice (in October 2016 and January 2017) in sworn applications to the FISC that limned Trump \u2014 the GOP candidate for the presidency, and then the sitting president \u2014 as a tool of the Russian government.<\/span> The purpose of interviewing Danchenko was to determine whether the Steele allegations were true or false. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Obviously, the FBI is supposed to determine that the information has been verified\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">before<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>making an application to the FISC in the first place.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Moreover, the FBI rationalizes that it needed to turn to Danchenko because it had a falling-out with Steele over his leaking to the media around the time of the 2020 election. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Put aside that Steele was giving the press information well before that, and that the FBI had every reason to know it.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Steele was a paid FBI informant<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The bureau had every right to ask Steele <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">exactly<\/span><\/em> who his sources were, and Steele would have had an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>obligation<\/em><\/span> to provide that information.<\/span> Yet the FBI relied on Steele even though it was well aware that he was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> an eyewitness to anything he was reporting \u2014 he was relying on second- and third-hand accounts from a supposed \u201cnetwork\u201d of sources.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">That is, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the FBI did not seek to interview these sources before portraying the president of the United States as a Russian asset<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> The bureau depended <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>solely on Steele<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>notwithstanding<\/em><\/span> that agents knew his anti-Trump bias was virulent and his information was uncorroborated \u2014 hence, the $1 million offer, which the FBI <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>knew it hadn\u2019t had to pay<\/em><\/span> because Steele was unable to support his claims.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It turned out, furthermore, that Steele\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>network<\/em><\/span> was, in essence, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Danchenko<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>As <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/not-for-a-million-dollars-11665604276?mod=djemBestOfTheWeb\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Best of the Web notes<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>For anyone who thought that\u00a0James Comey\u2019s FBI <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>could not have been any more irresponsible<\/em><\/span> in peddling the false claims included in the infamous Steele dossier, the latest revelations are bound to trigger a reassessment.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Not even a million dollars dangled in front of a questionable source could pry corroborating evidence out of him\u2014yet FBI officials still insisted on promoting his story?<\/span> Remember, a million dollars went a lot further in 2016 than in the Biden era.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The fact that even a million dollars hadn\u2019t been able to shake any verification out of Mr. Steele in 2016 makes the 2017 actions of the FBI\u2019s then director James Comey <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>even more appalling<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>This week\u2019s court testimony shows that the conduct of the FBI was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>even worse than previously reported<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But one thing hasn\u2019t changed.<\/span> There\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still no real accountability<\/em><\/span> for the FBI officials who abused their power and poisoned our politics.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The depth of the corruption in Washington is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>truly<\/em><\/span> staggering!\u00a0 There are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>banana republics<\/em><\/span> with less corruption than what currently infests the federal bureaucracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yet Progressives continue to increase their funding at every opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, writing at\u00a0<em>The Epoch Times<\/em>, Jeff Tucker warns us&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">The PayPal Fiasco Was No Accident<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/6x51hj.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104826\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/6x51hj.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">We know by now exactly what\u00a0Big Tech\u00a0companies mean by \u201cmisinformation.\u201d <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They mean information that belies regime priorities.<\/span> It began with COVID and extended to vaccines. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Now it includes climate change.<\/span> Indeed, every bit of opining or evidence that seems to go against the prevailing agenda of the Gates Foundation, the Biden administration, or the World Economic Forum is being systematically deprecated by Big Tech. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">That applies to Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and now PayPal.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The war on information freedom is intensifying by the day. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">This little victory over PayPal is sweet, but everyone knows it\u2019s a temporary concession.<\/span> They didn\u2019t like the bad public relations messaging. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Since the release of the policy, the company has likely experienced a record number of account cancellations.<\/span> They changed the policy to stop the bleeding.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In that sense, we have seen what works.<\/span> At the very least, these people have to obey market signals because they have a customer base and must deal with the basic demands of bookkeeping.<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> They not only have to please government interests, but also the public insofar as they still depend on willing users.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Still, the trajectory here is very clear. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It\u2019s the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most frightening step in the ongoing rise of tyranny in the world today<\/em><\/span> that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>your very ability to move money or even to earn an income will be officially declared as contingent upon the opinions you express<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It\u2019s next-level despotism that hasn\u2019t yet happened in any systematic way in the United States. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In China, this has become institutionalized.<\/span> The past year has shown us many examples of how the Chinese Communist Party uses digital apps to turn on or off people\u2019s ability to speak, associate, travel, and move money. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Compliance is everything.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>To some extent in Canada, this is already happening, as the government invaded the bank accounts of protesting truckers and those who supported them with donations.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">How much does it matter that PayPal reversed course?<\/span> It isn\u2019t entirely clear. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They showed their hand and revealed a much deeper and scarier plan that relates to the Biden administration\u2019s intention to create a new central bank digital currency.<\/span> This will be programmable money, one that would allow a ruling elite to cut off your means to live if they so choose.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It\u2019s all too tragic.<\/span> PayPal was set up initially as a means of obtaining financial independence from government-controlled banks. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It even hoped to become an independent form of money.<\/span> All these years later, it has been captured by interests that have the very opposite ambition. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In truth, many people out there cheer the prospect.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>That\u2019s how intense the political war has become in this country. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We used to debate.<\/span> We used to talk. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We reveled in the freedom that was guaranteed by a constitutional republic.<\/span> Today, many interest groups\u2014many of them associated, for now, mainly with the left\u2014no longer want to play that game. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They want you deplatformed, canceled, and even <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>left bereft of your ability to earn a living or feed your family<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It\u2019s a new age of brutalism, and the technologies that were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>supposed to prevent<\/em><\/span> it are now being deployed to usher it in and entrench it.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: PayPal just provided you a glimpse of a future in which currency is fully digitized and the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">government controls<\/span><\/em> your accounts through <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>its control<\/em><\/span> over the companies which hold them.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a future we&#8217;ll go into willingly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile,<em> Yahoo<\/em> reports, in an interview with Jake Tapper&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-test-locator=\"headline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/joe-biden-says-proud-hunter-141113754.html\"><span neglect on Monday after dropping off a rental car and apparently forgetting his one-year-old granddaughter was in the back seat. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">David Towner, 62,\u00a0had been babysitting his granddaughter for the day.<\/span> He dropped off the car at the\u00a0Daytona Beach International Airport and was picked up by his daughter. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">The child was in the car for almost an hour before being found by a worker at the Hertz rental car facility, Volusia County sheriff&#8217;s investigators said.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>On their way back to Towner&#8217;s home, his daughter asked about the baby and he told her the child was at his home with his roommate, according to his arrest report. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">Meanwhile, an employee with the rental company checked the car and found the girl in the back seat\u00a0of the 2019 Chevy Equinox, sheriff&#8217;s investigators said.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>&#8220;The child was scared and hot, but thankfully in good health when checked by paramedics,&#8221; Gant said.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Deputies and airport staff initially could not make contact with Towner but were\u00a0alerted by 9-1-1 dispatchers that the child&#8217;s mother was on her way to the airport, officials said.<\/span>The woman told investigators her father told her he left the child at home but when she got to the house she did not see her daughter.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008080;\">She then learned her father had left her daughter in the rental car instead<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>When deputies made contact with Towner, he was\u00a0remorseful and cooperative with deputies<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a
