You ask me a question when I answer it it&#8217;s the answer to your question. You don&#8217;t get to determine whether I answer a question or not, okay? In all respect&#8230;what happens in the Intel Cmte you don&#8217;t know. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WD57QB7m1v\">pic.twitter.com\/WD57QB7m1v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CSPAN (@cspan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1618059285094666240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 25, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>As Jim Geraghty observes&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Don\u2019t get me wrong; I think Santos ought to go. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">The argument that his constituents elected him and he ought to stay in Congress until his constituents toss him out glides over the fact that vast swaths of what his constituents knew about him was a pack of lies.<\/span> When Tulsi Gabbard confronted him about his lies in that Fox News interview, Santos didn\u2019t offer any real accountability or contrition; he hand-waved them away as \u201cmistakes\u201d and\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/george-santos-defends-lies-in-scathing-fox-news-interview-everybody-wants-to-nitpick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">accused Gabbard of \u201cnit-picking<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\">It seems fair to wonder if Santos has lied so habitually that he\u2019s now delusional and believes his own fictions.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>But you can see why Kevin McCarthy might find it worthwhile to let the gears of the consequences for Santos turn slowly. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">A Washington press corps that is obsessed with Santos\u2019s incessant lying and potentially shady connections isn\u2019t spending as much time insisting that the House GOP is the root of all evil.<\/span> Sooner or later, the consequences of Santos\u2019s voluminous deceptions will catch up to him. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But between now and then, he\u2019s a glasses-wearing, nervous-looking lightning rod, and the more lightning that strikes him, the less there is to strike the rest of the GOP House majority.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great point, though the only difference between Santos and almost every other member of Congress is the number of lies he&#8217;s told in such a short span of time.\u00a0 And other than the fact the latter&#8217;s been at it far longer, there&#8217;s certainly no difference <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>whatsoever<\/em><\/span> between Santos and Biden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, the <em>Morning Jolt<\/em>\u00a0details&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/the-stray-voltage-of-george-santos\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=MJ_20230125&amp;utm_term=Jolt-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"nr-heading\"><span style=\"color: #333399; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/podcasts\/the-editors\/episode-514-classified-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">most recent\u00a0Editors\u00a0podcast<\/a><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\">, Charlie made a good point (as he does with metronomic regularity): Biden\u2019s reputation as a wise elder statesman was always shaky, and Afghanistan toppled the facade, but the latest classified-documents mess <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>further proves<\/em><\/span> that his entire campaign argument from 2020 was an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>illusion<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Biden <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>isn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> competent <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>or<\/em><\/span> responsible. <\/span>He\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> a \u201cgrown-up,\u201d the adults are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> \u201cback in charge,\u201d and he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>isn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> bringing a new era of accountability and professionalism to Washington. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Biden offers a lot of the same flaws as his predecessor, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>just with a \u201cD\u201d after his name<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Over at<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2023\/01\/25\/biden-trump-classified-documents-00079253\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">Politico, Jack Shafer notices the same thing<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\">:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Wasn\u2019t it supposed to be different? <\/span>Wasn\u2019t the Biden presidency supposed to mark the return of grown-ups and professionalism to the White House? <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Weren\u2019t Biden\u2019s hallmarks his pedigree and experience, his competency and diligence?<\/span> Or, setting aside his deficiencies for a moment, wasn\u2019t Biden supposed to have surrounded himself with an able team of advisers who have been with him for decades, some back to his days in Delaware politics, to guide and protect him? <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">What were they doing to protect Biden when the Very Important Classified Documents bled out to his think-tank office, his garage and his house, and stored for years?<\/span> Or, are they just as sloppy as Biden and carriers of over-inflated reputations?<\/em><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"article-excerpt text-xl\"><strong>Speaking of disorganization, the&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/mattvespa\/2023\/01\/26\/school-superintendent-in-va-school-district-where-six-year-old-shot-teacher-has-been-ousted-n2618765\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600; the student had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>voiced his desire to set a teacher on fire<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">This kid had become such a disturbance that his parents had to escort him to class, though <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>they were absent<\/em><\/span> on the day of the shooting, January 6<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yeah, the same parents who\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>claim<\/em><\/span> to have had the handgun <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>secured<\/em><\/span> because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/family-6-year-old-virginia-student-shot-teacher-breaks-silence-insists-gun-secured?dicbo=v2-9b2a057360d7afd8a15fa52d91eb0ee8\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>they&#8217;re big on gun safety<\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: While the good doctor has clearly been hung out to dry, this story continues to raise any number of unanswered questions, including but not limited to: (i) If the parents were absent that fateful day, who prepared the kid for school and dropped him off? (ii). How could they not notice the weight of a Taurus 9mm in his backpack? (iii) Who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-64252261\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>notified staff at the school<\/em><\/span><\/a>\u00a0the child might have a weapon? (iv) Knowing the student&#8217;s history, why was he allowed to remain in the classroom after he&#8217;d been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>suspected<\/em><\/span> of carrying a gun? (v) Where did he hide the gun while his backpack was searched? (vi) Why didn&#8217;t they check his pockets? (vii)\u00a0<\/strong><strong>And are we the only one beginning to think, to the extent possible for a 6-year-old, this was a premeditated act?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, in the far northwest corner of the Volunteer State, the&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/tyre-nichols-video-police-chief-warns-memphis-violently-body-cam-footage-release\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">Police chief warns Memphis not to react violently after Tyre Nichols body cam footage release<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/230123110601-tyre-nichols.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-106913\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/230123110601-tyre-nichols.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/230123110601-tyre-nichols.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/230123110601-tyre-nichols-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Nichols was pulled over on Jan. 7 around 8:30 p.m. for\u00a0&#8220;reckless driving&#8221;\u00a0near Raines Road and Ross Road in Memphis.<picture><\/picture><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">A &#8220;confrontation occurred&#8221; during the stop, which resulted in police chasing Nichols on foot, police said. He was later apprehended.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>&#8220;While attempting to take the suspect into custody, another confrontation occurred; however, the suspect was ultimately apprehended,&#8221; MPD said. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;Afterward the suspect complained of having shortness of breath, at which point an ambulance was called to the scene.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>He was transported in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital, where he died three days later<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pulled over for reckless driving, a &#8220;confrontation occurred&#8221; during the stop which resulted in police chasing Nichols down on foot, followed by a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>second<\/em><\/span> confrontation.\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0 Once again, a whole lotta questions with no answers.\u00a0 One hopes the body cam footage will show the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>entire<\/em><\/span> incident, from the reckless driving which precipitated the stop through the time of the second confrontation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/tyre-nichols-case-5-former-memphis-police-officers-charged-second-degree-murder\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>the officers involved have been charged with 2nd-degree murder<\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 And while we&#8217;re not rendering any judgment prior to learning all the facts, we can&#8217;t help but think Tyre Nichols would still be alive had he heeded Chris Rock&#8217;s advice:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uj0mtxXEGE8?start=87&amp;end=94&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #003300; text-decoration: underline;\">Biden and the media deny it exists, but the effort is calculated and well-funded<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #003300;\">.<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/aaaa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-106668\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/aaaa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/aaaa.png 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/aaaa-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Don\u2019t believe for a second Consumer Product Safety Commission member\u00a0Richard Trumka Jr.\u2019s slippery claim that they aren\u2019t coming for your stove. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">Or the media narrative that Republicans are \u201chyping\u201d a new \u201cculture war\u201d by \u201cpretending\u201d the Biden administration intends to ban gas stoves.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>The reason gas stoves are in the news is simple: There is a coordinated, calculated\u2014and well-funded\u2014strategy to kill them off. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">It\u2019s the joint enterprise of extremely powerful climate groups, working with Biden administration officials who have publicly stated their aim to eliminate all \u201ccombustion appliances\u201d in homes.<\/span> Only after the GOP called them out did anyone pretend otherwise.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>Some of this is being exposed in\u00a0letters\u00a0sent this week by Senate Commerce Committee ranking member\u00a0Ted Cruz\u00a0to CPSC commissioners demanding more information. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">The letters highlight the primary groups behind this push.<\/span> One is the Climate Imperative Foundation, which became an overnight green powerhouse and reported more receipts in 2021 than the League of Conservation Voters or the Sierra Club. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">A board member and funder is Kleiner Perkins billionaire\u00a0John Doerr, whose climate action plan\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0 broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/speedandscale.com\/okrs\/2-0-decarbonize-the-grid\/2-6-heating-cooking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" type=\"link\">calls<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0for getting rid of gas cooking.<\/span> CIF\u2019s executive director,\u00a0Bruce Nilles, has made the end of gas stoves an imperative,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0 broken_link\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/05\/01\/opinion\/climate-change-gas-electricity.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" type=\"link\">writing<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0in 2019: \u201cYour gas stove has to go.\u201d <span style=\"color: #008000;\">CIF has granted money to the Rocky Mountain Institute, which has long\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/rmi.org\/our-work\/buildings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" data-type=\"link\">advocated<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0\u201cretrofitting\u201d existing homes to be \u201call electric.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>Then there\u2019s\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a class=\"css-1h1us5y-StyledLink exk4ewm0\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rewiringamerica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferer\" data-type=\"link\">Rewiring America<\/a><\/em><\/span>, \u201cthe leading electrification nonprofit, focused on electrifying our homes, businesses and communities.\u201d <span style=\"color: #008000;\">And New York University\u2019s Institute for Policy Integrity, which last year\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;
