color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/terrible-new-inflation-numbers-nullify-bidens-state-of-the-union-boasts\/?utm_source=recirc-%5BSCREENSIZE%5D&amp;utm_medium=homepage&amp;utm_campaign=right-rail&amp;utm_content=corner&amp;utm_term=fourth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">Jim Geraghty\u2019s excellent Corner post<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0on how President Biden\u2019s State of the Union boasts about inflation were, well, inflated, I happened to read a<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Arthur\/CBP-January-Border-Numbers-Are-Nothing-Crow-About\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">report by Andrew R. Arthur<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>, the stellar analyst at the Center for Immigration Studies, on how Biden\u2019s SOTU boasts about dramatic improvement in the crisis of illegal immigration at the southern border are\u00a0<em>also<\/em>\u00a0absurdly overblown.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">In his speech, Biden brayed, \u201cSince we launched our new border plan last month, unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has come down 97 percent.\u201d<\/span> I will come momentarily to the administration\u2019s new border plan, which,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2023\/01\/bidens-immigration-parole-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">as I observed when Biden rolled it out<\/a><\/em><\/span>, is both illegal and a political fraud. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">For now, though, let\u2019s stick with what the president said.<\/span> Even at face value, it was exaggeration. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">As Arthur runs the numbers, there was a decrease in unlawful migration from the four countries in question between December 2022 and January 2023, but it was a decrease of just 76 percent \u2014 and even that statistic makes the Biden administration\u2019s immigration policies sound a lot more successful than they\u2019ve actually been.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Because of Biden\u2019s policies, illegal immigration is at astronomical, previously unseen levels, so any decrease, no matter how noticeable, is going to be a fall from unprecedented heights. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">And when you widen the time frame, comparing January 2023 with January 2021 (when Biden took office, and thus before his policies took hold) and January 2020 (before Covid shut down even most illicit travel), the picture starts to look a lot different from the one Biden painted.<\/span> As Arthur shows, apprehensions from the four countries Biden mentioned were up\u00a0<em>400 percent\u00a0<\/em>in January 2023 compared to January 2021<em>,<\/em>\u00a0and an astonishing<em>\u00a01,275 percent\u00a0<\/em>compared with January 2020.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Now, about Biden\u2019s new border plan: It is not reducing the number of illegal aliens detained at the border; it is\u00a0<em>concealing the number of illegal aliens released into the country\u00a0<\/em>through a \u201cparole\u201d scam.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The scam works this way: Rather than trying to cross illegally at the border, aliens are now encouraged to arrange entry into the U.S. at CBP ports set up in northern Mexico.<\/span> There, even if they do not have a valid asylum claim (which the vast majority do not, because a valid claim must meet a high evidentiary burden), they will be given \u201cparole\u201d so long as they can show a potential claim of credible fear of persecution in their home country (a very low standard).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">As we shall see, the administration has no legal authority to grant such \u201cparole.\u201d<\/span> Nevertheless, compliant and uninformed media are reporting on the plan as if it were legitimate and the \u201cparoled\u201d aliens were entering our country lawfully. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The \u201cparole\u201d purports to authorize illegal aliens to work in the U.S. and lasts for two years, plenty of time to establish other ties (marriage, children) that will make it practically impossible to expel them \u2014 assuming that they show up for legal proceedings, and that the overrun system even schedules those proceedings in the foreseeable future.<\/span> That is, Biden has presumed the unilateral power to amend statutory immigration law, in effect granting asylum to illegal aliens who do not meet the qualifications Congress has prescribed \u2014 aliens who are merely economic migrants, who could have applied for asylum in countries they passed through before arriving at a U.S. port of entry, and who do not have a cognizable fear of persecution in their native countries.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Biden\u2019s parole program is lawless, which is why it is now being\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/621691479\/GOP-state-lawsuit-on-humanitarian-parole-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">challenged in a Texas federal court by 20 states<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(including Florida, which has also brought a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/myfloridalegal.com\/webfiles.nsf\/WF\/GPEY-CHSJDY\/$file\/220812+DE+74+Second+Amended+Complaint+For+Declaratory+And+Injunctive+Relief.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">lawsuit in a Florida federal court<\/a><\/em><\/span>).<\/span> As I\u2019ve explained a number of times, federal immigration law mandates that illegal aliens \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/doj-sues-arizona-for-allegedly-violating-federal-law-neglects-to-mention-bidens-gross-violations-of-federal-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">shall be detained<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u201d from the time they are first encountered by federal authorities until their cases are disposed of (i.e., until they are either deported or granted asylum or some other statutorily authorized right to remain)<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If ever there were grounds for impeaching a President, even an illegitimate one, Biden&#8217;s complete disregard for national security, sovereignty and the rule of law is an open and shut case.\u00a0 And his advocacy on behalf of Xi Jinping and the PRC is the very <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/browse\/essay\/artIII-S3-C1-2\/ALDE_00013525\/#:~:text=Article%20III%2C%20Section%203%2C%20Clause,on%20Confession%20in%20open%20Court.\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">definition of treason<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, in what will come as a shock to no one, before the NTSB has issued even a preliminary finding regarding the cause of the East Palestine, OH train disaster, an accident to which Mayor Pete took over 10 days to respond, Biden&#8217;s hopelessly-over-his-head Secretary of Transportation is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/pete-buttigieg-blames-trump-ohio-train-derailment-were-constrained\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>attempting to blame The Donald for the derailment<\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Given his level of detachment, we&#8217;d suggest Pete thought the Secretary of Transportation&#8217;s role was recording meeting minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a related video, Tucker identifies an interesting aspect of the curious lack of interest in the tragedy shown by both the Biden clown car and the MSM:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HckqNQ9Ci5M\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; Co. letter explained that the supposed Hunter emails had \u201call the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,\u201d making the signers \u201cdeeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.\u201d<\/span> They had <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no evidence<\/span><\/em>, but the letter served its purpose by providing the news media, Democrats and social-media censors the excuse to suppress the story.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But the laptop was real, and Republicans suddenly have subpoena power.<\/span> Hence the remarkable sight this week of Mr. Clapper and fellow signatories resurfacing to blame their 2020 tradecraft on the press. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The catalyst for this convenient claim is a batch of letters sent last week by House Judiciary Committee Chairman\u00a0Jim Jordan\u00a0to 12 of the letter\u2019s signers, demanding documents and interviews about their decision to issue a public statement that \u201cfalsely implied\u201d the Hunter story was bogus.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This inspired the Washington Post\u2019s \u201cfact checker,\u201d\u00a0Glenn Kessler, to provide the conspirators a favorable forum to make an early defense. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cPolitico deliberately distorted what we said,\u201d Mr. Clapper complained, saying the writers were merely raising a \u201cyellow\u201d flag.<\/span> \u201cJournalists and politicians willfully or unintentionally misconstrue oral or written statements,\u201d lamented\u00a0Thomas Fingar, who protested the letter had been \u201ccarefully written to minimize\u201d that likelihood. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Several unnamed signers meanwhile told Mr. Kessler <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>they believed at the time<\/em><\/span> that a significant amount of the material the Post reported <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was true<\/em><\/span>\u2014since Russians tend to build disinformation campaigns on facts.<\/span> That would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>seem<\/em><\/span> a crucial point, yet the signers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>somehow omitted it from their letter<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As blame-shifting goes, the press is usually a solid dumping spot.<\/span> Yet in this case, the signers\u2019 claims are laughable. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Start with the partisan motivations.<\/span> Mr. Clapper and\u00a0John Brennan, President Obama\u2019s director of the Central Intelligence Agency, were the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most politicized officials to ever hold their posts<\/em><\/span>, and were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hip-deep<\/em><\/span> in the 2016 Russia-collusion hoax. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Most of the rest of the signers were Biden supporters or Never Trumpers.<\/span> The press made hay of the \u201cbipartisan\u201d quality of the letter, but the conservative side featured folks like\u00a0Mike Hayden,\u00a0George W. Bush\u2019s CIA director, who prior to signing the letter had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>cut an ad beseeching the country not to vote for Donald Trump<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Also consider the hand-picked messenger.<\/span> Former Brennan aide\u00a0Nick Shapiro\u00a0didn\u2019t approach any old Politico reporter with the letter: He chose\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Natasha Bertrand<\/em><\/span>, who served as one of the key outlets for the outlandish Russia-collusion claims that opposition-research firm Fusion GPS and former Obama officials shopped four years earlier. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The letter writers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>knew exactly<\/em><\/span> what they were getting by going to this reporter\u2014and more likely than not the headline reflected their intent.<\/span> This was no <em>press sandbagging<\/em>; it was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>press cooperation<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And then there\u2019s the silence.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No signers complained<\/em><\/span> about the Politico letter after its publication. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>None corrected the record<\/em><\/span> as dozens of outlets repeated the supposed distortion.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No one said a word<\/em><\/span> when Joe Biden, in a presidential debate and a\u00a0CBS\u00a0interview, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>used the letter to declare definitively that the laptop story was \u201cdisinformation from the Russians<\/em><\/span>,\u201d \u201ca bunch of garbage,\u201d a \u201cRussian plan\u201d and a \u201csmear campaign.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As to the muteness, Mr. Clapper claimed to be \u201cunaware\u201d of how Mr. Biden described the letter.<\/span> Did he and his 50 co-signers make a pact to skip the presidential debate, to tune out all subsequent coverage, and never to communicate again? <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Surely one would have noticed the \u201cdistorted\u201d claim and felt compelled to alert the others.<\/span> And surely a group <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>capable of collaborating<\/em><\/span> on the letter was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>capable of correcting<\/em><\/span> the record.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They didn\u2019t, because they didn\u2019t want to.<\/span> The letter served its purpose. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It was written by an intel community that knows well how to manipulate a narrative.<\/span> It was written by a group of officials who abused their titles\u2014and the public\u2019s belief that their backgrounds gave them unique insights\u2014to peddle a claim for which they had no evidence. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It was written to benefit Mr. Biden\u2019s election bid.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-xbvutc-Paragraph e3t0jlg0\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Any claims to the opposite are what you might call <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>dis<\/em><\/span>information.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s a second shot of the juice: Kim is too kind.\u00a0 Clapper, Brenner, Hayden and everyone else who signed that letter weren&#8217;t merely disseminating disinformation, they were broadcasting bald-faced lies while breaking the 9th Commandment by bearing false witness.\u00a0 Considering the fact God Almighty carved that commandment himself, something tells us if Clapper &amp; Co. aren&#8217;t brought to justice in this world, they&#8217;ll surely face it in the next.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then there&#8217;s this sextet of special selections certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>(1). elementary school White students were allegedly threatened and assaulted after a group of Black students told them to say, &#8220;Black Lives Matter,&#8221; or else, according to reports.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">The Springfield Police Department\u00a0said an officer responded to Kenwood Elementary School just before 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 13 in reference to an incident that happened on Feb. 10.<\/span> When the officer arrived, he spoke with the school\u2019s principal, Evan Hunsaker, who said an incident occurred on the playground on Feb. 10 during recess.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008080;\">The principal told police that a group of Black students gathered several White students in the playground and forced them to say, &#8220;Black Lives Matter,&#8221; against their will, the incident report states.<\/span> The suspects also allegedly recorded the White students who were forced to make the statement, police said.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Hunsaker told police the students who tried to avoid the situation were chased down, dragged or carried to a particular spot on the playground, with one student getting punched in the head by one of the suspects<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two thoughts immediately come to mind: (i) Why, if the attack took place on Friday the 10th, did the principal wait until the following Monday to report it?\u00a0 For all he knew the assailants might have taken things to the next level in the interim; and (ii) Any question had the respective roles and races been reversed, this story would
