Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer from the University of Kentucky, was reportedly forced to barricade herself in a room for three hours for her own safety when student protesters became violent and unruly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cShe told me she was hit multiple times by a guy in a dress. I was shaking. It made me that mad. That distinction belongs to what\u2019s gone mostly unnoticed: Smith\u2019s decision to subpoena agents from Trump\u2019s Secret Service detail to testify before his Mar-a-Lago grand jury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Understand: The executive branch and the Secret Service especially abhor the specter of security officials testifying against their protectees. It eviscerates the bond of trust the Secret Service must maintain to guard people effectively, which requires their cooperation. Prosecutors do not summon Secret Service agents to a grand jury unless they are very serious about indicting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Nor does the executive branch typically waive executive privilege, as the Biden administration has done regarding not only the former president but top Trump officials as well \u2014 up to and including the vice president and chief of staff. By taking that position, the Justice Department, which is usually in court advocating for robust executive privileges and immunities, is instead eroding them to the detriment of Biden and future presidents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This makes no sense . . . unless this executive branch and its prosecutors have made nailing Donald Trump at some politically propitious moment their highest priority. Plainly, they are willing to take their chances with slimmer protection, willing to compromise the confidentiality that security officials need in order to convey frank advice and make good decisions for what they see as the greater good of getting Trump first nominated, then beaten in November, and finally convicted in court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As I\u2019ve pointed out ever since it was discovered that President Biden was guilty of illegally hoarding classified documents, the prosecutor \u2014 with the support of the media\u2013Democratic complex \u2014 was sure to reframe the Mar-a-Lago probe into\u00a0<em>a grand-jury-obstruction case<\/em>, rather than a classified-documents-retention case. That, Biden apologists will argue, is the rationale for prosecuting the former president but not the incumbent president.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Voila!<\/em>\u00a0Smith got the court to compel testimony from Trump\u2019s private lawyer, Evan Corcoran, about the misrepresentations that were made under oath to the grand jury and investigators in June 2022 \u2014 when Trump\u2019s attorneys falsely claimed that the package of 38 classified documents that they\u2019d surrendered that day were the only remaining ones at Trump\u2019s estate. Two months later, a hundred more such documents were seized by the FBI in its Mar-a-Lago search.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If Corcoran is testifying, it must be because the prosecutors have decided that he didn\u2019t lie; he merely passed on to the investigators what he\u2019d been told by his client. That, clearly, is why Smith forced him to testify about his conversations with Trump \u2014 which he was permitted to do because a judge invoked the \u201ccrime\u2013fraud exception\u201d to attorney\u2013client privilege, finding that Trump had probably carried out a criminal obstruction scheme. Like the Mar-a-Lago employees who were also questioned, the Secret Service agents are being called to testify about Trump\u2019s activities and the movement of various documents in the weeks after the June meeting. That is, if Trump was handling documents marked classified after his lawyers had told the grand jury that he didn\u2019t have any such documents, then the grand jury was intentionally misled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The noose is tightening. Smith is going full bore on January 6, too. That\u2019s why he\u2019s getting testimony from Pence, just as he did from other top Trump officials. It will be tougher, for legal reasons, to prove a conspiracy to obstruct Congress\u2019s ratification of Biden\u2019s Electoral College victory, but Smith is pushing hard to make that case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">He won\u2019t have to push that hard on Mar-a-Lago. Comparatively, it\u2019s a slam dunk. If Democrats have decided that they can ride out the political firestorm of indicting Trump while insulating Biden \u2014 and the obstruction scheme, they believe, is their solution to that challenge \u2014 then an indictment is coming. Bank on it. If Trump supporters become enraged by the double standard, they\u2019ll push even harder for his nomination. See how this works?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Trump made lemonade out of this week\u2019s lemons. He got indicted, but it\u2019s an abominable case. That rallied not only supporters who claim he should now be the party\u2019s nominee by acclamation, but even fair-minded detractors who are enraged about the Democrats\u2019 two-tiered justice system. His candidacy got a boost \u2014 a sign of the times, since the unsavory conduct underlying Bragg\u2019s flawed charges used to be disqualifying in Republican politics. But, of course, so did serial public lying, false claims of stolen elections, whipping up violent mobs to pressure lawmakers, recklessly mishandling national-defense secrets, misleading grand juries, and so on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A few months from now, ironically, Donald Trump will remember the week of his first indictment as the good old days. The accumulated weight of his legal woes \u2014 at least the ones we know of,\u00a0<em>so far<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 would eventually sink him even if Smith wasn\u2019t preparing a torpedo. The question is whether he\u2019ll take the GOP down with him. Are Republicans going to let Democrats provoke them into nominating the one candidate who is sure to lose to Biden?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s a third shot of the juice, courtesy of reader Andy Meyers description of The Donald: &#8220;I&#8217;d like to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>b<\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>uy<\/em><\/span> him for what he&#8217;s worth, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sell<\/em><\/span> him for what he THINKS he&#8217;s worth, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>retire<\/em><\/span> on the difference!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As we said when discussing Trump with TLJ Saturday evening, you have to compartmentalize the innumerable injustices Trump&#8217;s faced since coming down that golden escalator back in June of 2015, up to and including his recent indictment, from the prospect of him running for a second term.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Retirement is an option we&#8217;d suggest Trump seriously consider, not for his benefit and certainly not for his boundless ego and narcissism, but for the country, which cannot afford another four years of whoever is pulling Joe Biden&#8217;s strings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Moving on, here&#8217;s an octet of items sure to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>(1). The same feeling came over her recently as she visited schools in her hometown of Lexington, Ky., where she plans to teach and send her two children. \u201cIt is frightening, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>especially for a Person of Color<\/em><\/span><\/strong>,\u201d Kendrick says. \u201cAnd, as I\u2019ve grown to understand this issue, I also know that it has <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>deep roots in racial injustice<\/em><\/span><\/strong> and is a <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>cog in a system that unfairly and more severely disciplines minority students<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Kendrick, who is chair of NEA\u2019s Aspiring Educators (AE), says she and other new educators believe this is a <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>critical social justice issue<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019ve chosen to teach so that we can educate and guide young people. [Racial injustice] is antithetical to that,\u201d she says.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>School Resource Officers; Why, one might ask?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/publicintegrity.org\/education\/criminalizing-kids\/police-in-schools-disparities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0shows that SROs do little to reduce on-campus violence or mass shootings, and their presence is often damaging to students of color and students with disabilities. Having SROs in schools can actually create higher rates of behavioral incidents and spikes in suspensions, expulsions, and arrests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">While <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>limited<\/em><\/span><\/strong> research suggests that SROs <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>diminish bad behavior and are more likely to spot illegal activity<\/em><\/span> in schools, other data show that <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>students in vulnerable groups are <\/em><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>m<\/strong>ore likely to be harshly punished<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Two thoughts immediately came to mind: (i) So, there&#8217;s &#8220;research&#8221; and &#8220;limited research&#8221;, the definitions of which the NEA doesn&#8217;t bother to explain, likely because its members won&#8217;t discern the disparagement; and (ii)&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OwfNjGxa_D4?start=176&amp;end=182&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;the &#8220;minority students&#8221; being disciplined had committed more numerous and\/or serious offenses than their, we have to assume, White counterparts?\u00a0 You know, the same reason more Black males as a percentage of the population are in prison because Black males commit a HUGELY disproportionate percentage of crimes!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>And THESE\u00a0 are the braindeads who are educating our future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>(7). Evidently MSDNC has a new host, one Mehdi Hasan, <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/saraharnold\/2023\/04\/08\/matt-taibbi-shreds-msnbc-to-pieces-over-fake-hunter-biden-report-n2621706\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>who accused Matt Taibbi of\u00a0 &#8220;doing PR work for the world&#8217;s richest man<\/em><\/span><\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0 When Taibbi responded by pointing out,\u00a0&#8220;The hilarity of this coming from MSNBC, which did <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nothing but vomit up fake Russian hit stories that came straight from the FBI for six consecutive years,<\/em><\/span> you guys still haven&#8217;t apologized for it&#8221;,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Hasan defended himself by saying that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he was not working at MSNBC then<\/em><\/span>, so <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he<\/em><\/span> has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nothing to apologize for<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>We found this particularly rich in light of the fact Hasan and his network actively advocate for not only apologies, but cash reparations from people who never owned slaves nor have in any way repressed a single minority of any complexion or ethnicity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>(8). Chicago&#8217;s new mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/chicago-mayor-elect-brandon-johnson-rebukes-large-corporations-poverty-violence-city\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>blames corporations for the skyrocketing crime he and his party&#8217;s policies have promoted<\/em><\/span><\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">&#8220;We have large corporations. Seventy percent of large corporations in the city of Chicago \u2014 in the state of Illinois, did not pay a corporate tax. And it&#8217;s that type of restraint on our budget that has caused the type of disinvestment that has led to poverty, of course that has led to violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: In the messages to his friends, the teenager made the following statements, among others:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cI want to shoot up the school.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cIf I get a gun I\u2019m gonna shoot up hnms lol.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cI\u2019m getting a wrath and natural selection shirt so maybe but I don\u2019t think many ppl know what the columbine shooters look like.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cOkay so it\u2019s been like 3-4 weeks since I got on my new antidepressants and they aren\u2019t working but they\u2019re suppose to by now so I have no hope in getting better so why not kill the losers at school.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The teenager told one of his friends that he planned to shoot up the school the Thursday before Spring Break but there were too many things going on so he postponed it until March 31. The students reported the claims to the school prior to that date and the investigation was launched.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As is her habit, Jones <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>immediately started lying about the case<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p>\u201cMy family is not safe,\u201d Rebekah Jones tweeted. \u201cMy son has been taken on the gov\u2019s orders, and I\u2019ve had to send my husband and daughter out of state for their safety.
