This week, the U.S. recorded more than 10,000 illegal border crossings per day,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2023\/05\/11\/title-42-migrants-us-mexico-border-crossings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" testid=\"standard-link\" class=\"broken_link\">the highest levels ever<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>. The images of the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/photos\/border-crisis-title-42\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">crowds of migrants at the border<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0are like something out of a disaster movie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The arguments about illegal immigration and the border are the same ones we\u2019ve been having for decades now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you discuss an amnesty for those who have entered the country illegally, more people attempt to cross the border because they want to qualify for and benefit from the amnesty.<\/li>\n<li>If\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/most-democrats-promise-to-decriminalize-border-crossings-during-2020-debate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">an overwhelming majority of Democratic presidential candidates<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0endorses decriminalizing crossing the border, those in other countries start to believe that the U.S. does not really want to enforce its border or immigration laws.<\/li>\n<li>When a sufficient number of elected officials denounce Border Patrol agents and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/07\/02\/politics\/abolish-ice-democrats-list\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>call for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/em><\/strong><\/span>,<\/a>\u00a0migrants may reasonably conclude that the U.S. government is, at best, conflicted about enforcing its immigration laws, and that it might some day repeal them entirely.<\/li>\n<li>When localities announce that they are \u201csanctuary cities\u201d and that their law-enforcement agencies will not cooperate with federal law enforcement on enforcing immigration laws, migrants know they have better odds of not being deported back to their home countries.<\/li>\n<li>And of course, human smugglers are telling poor and desperate people in Central and South America that the U.S. border is open, and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/10\/politics\/immigration-biden-misinformation\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">have been doing so since Biden took office<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The first step to effective enforcement of immigration laws is for the government to\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>want<\/em><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to enforce its immigration laws. A significant number of American elected officials <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>do not want to enforce immigration laws<\/em><\/span><\/strong>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We have seen steep drops in attempts at illegal immigration in the not-too-distant past, and not just because of the pandemic in 2020. No, one steep decline in illegal immigration\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/immigration-arrests-spiked-illegal-border-crossings-dropped-2017\/story?id=51599510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"standard-link\">occurred in 2017, particularly in the first half of the year<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><em>Arrests of undocumented immigrants rose and apprehensions along the Southwest border were down significantly last year, according to the end-of-year numbers released Tuesday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>During fiscal year 2017, there were a total of 310,531 apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol nationwide. That\u2019s the lowest its been in at least 17 years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Of those apprehensions, nearly 98 percent were along the Southwest border. Apprehensions are used as an indicator to measure illegal border crossings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>April 2017 was the month with the lowest border enforcement activity on record, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees Border Patrol. Since the April-low of 11,127 southwest border apprehensions, the numbers have crept back up.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I suspect you remember what happened in January 2017. The U.S. inaugurated a new president whose views and policies could not have been any clearer. The man had, and has, an epic amount of flaws. But a policy of clear, explicit warnings and strict enforcement, coupled with additional border fencing to direct migrants into areas with more enforcement personnel, as called for in 2017 by\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/jamal-khashoggis-work-compromising-background\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-testid=\"dynamic-link\">Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council \u2014 the labor union that represents U.S. Border Patrol agents<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span> \u2014\u00a0worked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Our current border and immigration-law-enforcement policies <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>aren\u2019t working<\/em><\/span><\/strong>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primarily because Progressives are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>actively aiding and abetting<\/em><\/span> the flooding of the country with illegal immigrants!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Further evidencing the Biden clown car&#8217;s total disregard, indeed contempt for the citizens they supposedly serve, on Friday the White House\u00a0on Friday claimed <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/white-house-rages-federal-judge-blocks-release-migrants-without-court-dates-sabotage\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a ruling blocking the release of illegal aliens into the interior of the country without court dates is an act of &#8220;sabotage<\/em><\/span><\/a><em>&#8220;<\/em>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">while other federal agencies termed it &#8220;harmful&#8221;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong>&#8220;Sabotage&#8221;: of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what<\/em><\/span>?!?\u00a0 Biden&#8217;s effort to flood the country with criminal trespassers?!?\u00a0 &#8220;Harmful&#8221;: to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>who<\/em><\/span>?!?\u00a0 Certainly not taxpaying citizens who are footing the bill for this government-sanctioned invasion!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, after sharing meaningless platitudes with the Spanish Prime Minister, 46* sat and smirked for over a minute in the face of questions from reporters about the complete chaos at the border until the Press was ushered out:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3FM7doEiNZg?start=274&amp;end=332&amp;\" width=\"462\" height=\"258\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; story. It is a plan that was created many decades ago by leftist radicals intent on destroying America.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;These Columbia University radicals (and traitors) had a plan named Cloward-Piven. It was named after two Columbia University professors: the husband-and-wife team of Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven. The plan was <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>actually simple<\/em><\/span><\/strong>: get <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everyone possible<\/em><\/span><\/strong> in America on <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>welfare, food stamps and a hundred other government welfare programs<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. Get <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so<\/em><\/span><\/strong> many on the government dole that the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>economy is overwhelmed, destroyed and collapses<\/em><\/span><\/strong> under the weight of the exploding national debt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Basically, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>America goes bankrupt<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">At this point, Americans would be in so much pain and so frightened that they would <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>beg<\/em><\/span><\/strong> government to save them. And <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that<\/span><\/em><\/strong> is how they would &#8220;fundamentally change America forever.&#8221; Remember those words? They came out of the mouth of Barack Obama. He learned those words and this plan at Columbia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"column--highlighted-text\">Because of the collapse of the economy and society, Cloward and Piven believed America would be ready for socialism: bailouts, a permanent welfare state and a monthly universal-income check.\u00a0<\/span>The goal? Equality, equity, social justice. Recognize those words? Everyone would be in the same boat \u2014 dependent on Big Brother for survival. Look around. It&#8217;s all happening right now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Except Cloward-Piven has been updated. It&#8217;s now 100% about the border. If you can&#8217;t get <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everyone in America<\/em><\/span><\/strong> on welfare to explode the debt, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>overwhelm the economy and collapse the country, open the border and invite the whole world in<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The world is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>filled<\/em><\/span><\/strong> with such <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>terrible, miserable poverty<\/em><\/span><\/strong> that Americans <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>can&#8217;t even imagine it<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. The poor in America are <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rich<\/em><\/span><\/strong> compared to the rest of the world. And <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is why the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>whole world<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is coming. They <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>know<\/em><\/span><\/strong> the border is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>open<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. The whole of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Africa<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is coming. The whole <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Middle East<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is coming. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>China<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is sending millions of military-age males. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Haiti<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is coming. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Latin America<\/em><\/span><\/strong> is coming. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Prisons<\/em><\/span><\/strong> are being emptied. An <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>invasion<\/em><\/span><\/strong> of America is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>underway<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were poor&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were starving&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> had nothing&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were a criminal&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were sick&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were pregnant&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> had 10 kids&#8230; if <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> were a child with no future&#8230; <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>wouldn&#8217;t you<\/em><\/span><\/strong> come to America? Well, the White House took care of that Thursday with a new 681-page Environmental Protection Agency proposed rule that amounts to a death sentence for fossil-fuel power plants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">The Supreme Court last summer <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blocked<\/span><\/em><\/strong> the\u00a0Obama\u00a0Clean Power Plan, which would have <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>forced<\/em><\/span><\/strong> a generation-shift in electric power to renewables from coal. The Biden EPA\u2019s plan would do <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that and more<\/em><\/span><\/strong> by other means that are <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>also probably unconstitutional<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-block=\"doNotPrint\">Section 111 of the Clean Air Act says the EPA can regulate pollutants from stationary sources through the \u201cbest system of emission reduction\u201d that is \u201cadequately demonstrated.\u201d Yet the EPA wants to require that fossil-fuel plants adopt carbon capture and green hydrogen technologies that <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>aren\u2019t currently cost-effective or feasible<\/em><\/span><\/strong>, and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>may never be<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Only one<\/em><\/span><\/strong> commercial-scale coal plant in the world uses carbon capture to reduce emissions, and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span><\/strong> gas-fired plants do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-block=\"doNotPrint\">Even if power plants implemented carbon capture, their cost of generation would double, rendering them less competitive against subsidized wind and solar power. There\u2019s also the not-so-small problem of permitting. Thousands of miles of pipelines would have to be built to transport carbon to geologic structures where it can be injected. The EPA is sitting on permit applications for carbon sequestration facilities. Pipelines to transport CO2 would invariably run into the same regulatory roadblacks as those carrying oil and natural gas. Iowa farmers are already battling a pipeline to carry CO2 from ethanol plants to underground rock formations in North Dakota and Illinois.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">&#8230;\u201cBy presenting all of those rules at the same time to the industry,\u201d EPA Administrator\u00a0Michael Regan\u00a0said last year, \u201cthe industry gets a chance to take a look at this suite of rules all at once and say, \u2018Is it worth doubling down in investments in this current facility? Or should we look at that cost and say now it\u2019s time to pivot and invest in a clean energy future?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">But the clean energy future is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still<\/em><\/span><\/strong> the future, and the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>technologies<\/em><\/span><\/strong> that EPA wants to <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>mandate<\/em> <\/span><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">don\u2019t exist<\/span><\/em><\/strong>. Forcing fossil-fuel plants to shut down prematurely will endanger grid reliability. Don\u2019t worry, EPA says, plants won\u2019t have to fully comply for seven to 12 years. But their owners and utilities must make economic investment calculations <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>today<\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">The proposed rule <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>won\u2019t make an iota of difference to the climate<\/em><\/span><\/strong> as China and India <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ramp up coal power<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. Even EPA&#8217;s CO2 emissions reduction estimate over the next two decades amounts to only a third of that between 2010 and 2019 as natural gas replaced coal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-type=\"paragraph\">The EPA is gambling that it can sneak this through the courts. But the rule is a <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>de facto mandate<\/em><\/span><\/strong> to shift to renewables from fossil fuels, which Congress <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">never explicitly authorized<\/span><\/em><\/strong>. The Supreme Court\u2019s 5-4\u00a0<em class=\"css-i6hrxa-Italic e1ofiv6m0\" data-type=\"emphasis\">Massachusetts v. EPA\u00a0<\/em>decision that let the agency regulate greenhouse gas emissions rests on shaky ground.
