Marco Rubio, the leading Republican on the Senate\u2019s Gang of Eight, <em>says part of the reason is that the federal government can\u2019t afford to secure the border on its own <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and needs financial help from the immigrants themselves, in the form of fines paid when they are legalized<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Rubio made the statement during a radio interview <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>after he voted against<\/em><\/span><em> an amendment from Republican Sen. Charles Grassley that would have put off legalization until after the border is secure<\/em> \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a position supported by majorities of voters across the political spectrum<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span> Host Andrea Tantaros asked Rubio why he opposed something that was important \u201cto so many in the Republican party?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LHcc5zozvAY\" height=\"235\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Rubio\u2019s first reason was that the U.S. has no other choice than to legalize the 11 million.<\/strong><\/span> Enhancing security first would take an estimated four years, and Rubio declared, \u201cWe cannot wait another four years with 11 million people living in this country illegally without knowing who they are or why they\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But there was <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">another<\/span><\/em> reason.<\/span> \u201cWe need to register them as soon as possible, not just to keep the problem from getting worse, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>but we\u2019re going to require them to pay a fine, and that\u2019s the money that we are going to use to pay for the border security,\u201d Rubio explained<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span> \u201cIf we don\u2019t get that fine money from the people that have violated our immigration laws, then the American taxpayer is going to have to pay for border security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ap_rubio_brief_130410_wg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19442\" alt=\"ap_rubio_brief_130410_wg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ap_rubio_brief_130410_wg.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ap_rubio_brief_130410_wg.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ap_rubio_brief_130410_wg-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>So long, Marco; we hardly knew ya&#8230;but we saw enough to know we won&#8217;t miss you!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Of all the expenditures the federal government undertakes, one of the most basic and legitimate is securing the border. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>It certainly seems like a more reasonable use of taxpayer dollars than, say, creating treadmills for shrimp or sending aid to the Muslim Brotherhood.<\/strong> <\/span>So why it would be undesirable to have taxpayers pay for security is not clear. Nevertheless, Rubio seemed disinclined to spend public dollars for that purpose. If the fine money is not used, he said, \u201cWe\u2019re going to end up borrowing money like we do now for 40 cents out of every dollar, and I want to prevent that from happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Rubio also said he objected to the Grassley amendment because it didn\u2019t include a detailed border security plan, which would leave things up to the Department of Homeland Security. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">But that was not related to the question of whether or not to legalize the 11 million before new security and enforcement measures are in place.<\/span> As far as that is concerned, one of Rubio\u2019s main reasons is that we simply can\u2019t afford to do it any other way.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Whatever Rubio is, i.e., dumb, conniving or hopelessly naive, he&#8217;s used up any benefit of the doubt we initially extended him; and like Chris Christie, forfeited our support for any national ticket.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contrast Rubio&#8217;s craven capitulation with this profile in moral courage:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x2MqA9bCeRY\" height=\"235\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>By the way, stupid is as stupid does; Sean Hannity, who wears shoes larger than his IQ, still supports his &#8220;good friend&#8221; Marco Rubio&#8217;s surrender of our national sovereignty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Magoo<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We interrupt our regular programming to bring you this Daily Gouge Special Report.\u00a0 As detailed in this Immigration Update from Byron York,\u00a0Marco Rubio&#8217;s story has changed&#8230;yet again: Marco Rubio: We need to legalize immigrants so they can pay for border security &nbsp; \u00a0Holy chit!\u00a0 Theez lying; she eez very thirsty work, Senor!
