{"id":31739,"date":"2015-06-16T18:30:37","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T22:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=31739"},"modified":"2015-06-16T18:30:43","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T22:30:43","slug":"the-daily-gouge-archive-monday-june-15th-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=31739","title":{"rendered":"The Daily Gouge Archive, Monday, June 15th, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s Monday, June 15th, 2015&#8230;but before we begin, a few brief observations on Friday&#8217;s slap to the face of The Great Divider we hope stings like hell for the rest of his miserable, misleading Marxist life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s no question the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>entire<\/em><\/span> leadership of the GOP did a lousy job selling their strategery, assuming they actually <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>had<\/em><\/span> a plan in the first place! \u00a0Paul Ryan deserves <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>special dishonorable mention<\/em><\/span> for actually suggesting with a straight face we needed to pass the bill in order to learn what was in it&#8230;which should eliminate <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>him<\/em><\/span> from consideration for\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>any<\/em><\/span>\u00a0higher office, and possibly even reelection. \u00a0<\/strong><strong>And sure, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pelosi-knifes-obama-1434150984?tesla=y\">Nancy the Red <span style=\"color: #ff0000; stay tuned.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s The Gouge!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Leading off the Monday edition, in a reprise of her earlier entry in the <em>WSJ<\/em>, Heather Mac Donald describes how Progressives continue their efforts at&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/explaining-away-the-new-crime-wave-1434319888\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><a class=\"icon none\" style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-new-nationwide-crime-wave-1432938425\" target=\"_self\">in these pages<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span> that\u00a0violent crime is rising sharply in many cities. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Having spoken with police officers and commanders, I hypothesized that the growing reluctance of cops to engage in proactive policing may help explain the spike in violent crime.<\/strong><\/span> The past nine months have seen unprecedented antipolice agitation dedicated to the proposition that bias infects policing in predominantly black communities, a message echoed at the highest reaches of government and the media. Officers in urban areas are encountering high levels of resistance and hostility when they try to make an arrest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Faced with the prospect of ending up in a widely distributed video if an arrest goes awry, and possibly being indicted, officers tell me that they are increasingly reluctant to investigate suspicious behavior.<\/span><strong> <span style=\"color: #333399;\">St. Louis police chief Sam Dotson last fall <em>called the relationship between decreased enforcement and increased crime the \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ferguson effect<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I noted that if it continues the primary victims will be the millions of law-abiding residents of inner-city neighborhoods who rely on police to keep order.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A sharply critical response from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some quarters<\/em><\/span> greeted the article.<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>(Yeah&#8230;the Left Bank!)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>It belonged to a \u201clong line of conservative efforts to undermine racial equality,\u201d wrote Columbia University law professor Bernard Harcourt in the Guardian, decrying the article as \u201ccrime fiction\u201d intended to undermine \u201cthe country\u2019s newest civil rights movement.\u201d Charles Blow of the New York Times called me a \u201cfear-mongering iron fist-er\u201d who was using \u201cracial pathology arguments\u201d and \u201csmearing the blood running in the street onto the hands holding the placards.\u201d The article was part of a \u201cgrowing backlash against police reform,\u201d an attempt to \u201cshame people who dare to speak up about police abuse,\u201d wrote journalist Radley Balko in the Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>The police came in for criticism as well. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Officers who are not doing what Mr. Blow calls \u201cnormal police work\u201d simply because of protests against police brutality are acting unprofessionally, it was said<\/span>\u2014<em>Mr. Balko called it being \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">too afraid or spiteful to do their jobs<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Other writers challenged the focus on the multicity crime rise. Not every city was seeing a crime increase, some critics said\u2014or at least not an increase in every category of crime. And whatever the increases, crime is still much lower than it was 20 years ago. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>In any case, critics argued, it was premature to draw conclusions about the significance or the possible causes of the crime rises; crime is predominantly a local phenomenon and naturally fluctuates over short periods.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>These criticisms speak volumes about how activists, members of the media and many academics understand crime and policing<\/strong><\/span><\/em>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Misunderstand&#8221; would be more precise; and that goes for crime, policing or any<em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">other<\/span><\/em> aspect of life&#8217;s realities, let alone the causative factors behind them; case in point, brought to us by Hollywood&#8217;s\u00a0<em>The Wrap<\/em>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"title entry-title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #333399; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/tv-news-reporters-speak-out-about-explosion-of-explicit-fhritp-taunts\/\">TV News Reporters Speak Out About Explosion of Explicit On-the-Street Taunts<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/kaceymontoya.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31673\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/kaceymontoya.jpg\" alt=\"kaceymontoya\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/kaceymontoya.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/kaceymontoya-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It\u2019s not a new problem, but it\u2019s one that by most accounts is getting worse.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>A growing number of TV news reporters say over the past year, there has been an increase in the level of sexually explicit taunts they face while covering stories on public streets. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">The disturbing trend involves hecklers running up and yelling, \u201cF\u2013k her right in the pu\u2013y\u201d into microphones as reporters stand in front of the camera.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cThe acronym \u2018F her in the P\u2019 is constant,\u201d NBC4 Southern California reporter Beverly White told <em>The Wrap<\/em>. \u201cTotal strangers, typically young men, shout that profanity like they have a right, and I beg to differ. It is deeply offensive and it\u2019s infuriating.\u201d\u00a0The obscene interruptions started to gain notoriety in May 2014. The first known incident was initially thought to have been said by a heckler during a live broadcast in Cincinnati, Ohio. The footage went viral, but the stunt turned out to be a hoax. Still, the copycat incidents are all too real.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u201cIt\u2019s honestly really similar to online trolling, except that it\u2019s not happening online, it\u2019s happening in public,\u201d <em>Elisa Lees Munoz, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">executive director of The International Women\u2019s Media Foundation<\/span> said<\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\u201cIt\u2019s really indicative of the misogyny and extreme sexism that\u2019s out there in our society\u2026 It\u2019s infuriating that there are people out there using gender-based acts to stop women from performing their professional activity.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u201d&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yeah&#8230;except the person screaming the profanity at the woman reporter in the top left corner of the photo below&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tv-reporters-harassed-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31672\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tv-reporters-harassed-1.jpg\" alt=\"tv-reporters-harassed (1)\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tv-reporters-harassed-1.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tv-reporters-harassed-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8230;appears to be <em>a young <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">female<\/span><\/em>. \u00a0And the French reporter in the bottom left portion, at least given our current though admittedly limited understanding of The Left&#8217;s ever-changing gender guidelines, as a &#8220;male&#8221;, cannot, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>by definition<\/em><\/span>, be the subject of extreme sexism or misogyny.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Here&#8217;s the juice: from Jerry Seinfeld to Juan Williams, the reporters mentioned above to an increasing number of college professors across the country, Liberals are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>finally<\/em><\/span> reaping the whirlwind <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>they&#8217;ve sown<\/em><\/span>&#8230;for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>generations<\/em><\/span>. \u00a0Political Correctness has been running amok across Conservative America for decades; now it&#8217;s turning on its own.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a related item, writing at\u00a0<em>PJ Media<\/em>&#8216;s <em>Tattler<\/em>, Debra Heine offers\u00a0<em>Yet Another Sign The Progressive-Perpetrated Apocalypse Is Upon Us<\/em>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Totalitarianism on Campus: UC Professors Instructed Not to Say \u2018 America is the Land of Opportunity\u2019<\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/536960_310807915713117_2067277566_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-31521\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/536960_310807915713117_2067277566_n-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"536960_310807915713117_2067277566_n\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/536960_310807915713117_2067277566_n-300x247.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/536960_310807915713117_2067277566_n.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If I didn\u2019t know any better, I would say that this article at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/post\/22839\/\" target=\"_blank\">The College Fix<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span> is clever satire,<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong> but what is going on under University of California President Janet Napolitano is all too real and part of a growing trend of totalitarianism on campus.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Standard conservative ideas have become verboten at some universities where offering a right-of-center opinion about American \u00a0life is considered a \u201cmicroaggression.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> (Interesting: Spell-check doesn\u2019t consider \u201cmicroaggression\u201d a real word. How\u2019s<em> that<\/em> for a microaggression?)\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>America is the land of opportunity<\/em><\/span>,\u201d \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>There is only one race, the human race<\/em><\/span>\u201d and \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I believe the most qualified person should get the job<\/em><\/span>\u201d are among a long list of alleged microaggressions faculty leaders of the University of California system <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>have been instructed not to say<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">These so-called microaggressions \u2013 considered examples of subconscious racism \u2013 were presented at faculty leader training sessions held throughout the 2014-15 school year at nine of the 10 UC campuses.<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong> The sessions, an initiative of UC President Janet Napolitano, aim to teach how to avoid offending students and peers, as well as how to hire a more diverse faculty.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">At the gatherings, deans and department chairs across the UC system have been instructed to be careful using (read: instructed not to use) phrases such as \u201cAmerica is the land of opportunity\u201d or even use forms that provide only \u201cmale\u201d and \u201cfemale\u201d check boxes, among a long litany of supposed microaggressions listed in a document underlying the \u201cFaculty Leadership Seminars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The document has drawn little scrutiny until now, when a professor in the UC system pointed it out to<em>The College Fix<\/em>.<\/span> The professor chose not to attend the seminars, but\u00a0myriad materials\u00a0on the UC Office of the President (UCOP) website give indication as to what sort of lessons were taught there.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UCMicro-1024x496.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31634\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UCMicro-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"UCMicro-1024x496\" width=\"525\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UCMicro-1024x496.jpg 525w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/UCMicro-1024x496-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Other sayings deemed unacceptable include:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u25cf <em>\u201cEveryone can succeed in this society, if they work hard enough.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u25cf <em>\u201cWhere are you from or where were you born?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>\u25cf \u201cAffirmative action is racist.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>\u25cf \u201cWhen I look at you, I don\u2019t see color.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Martin Luther King\u2019s dream of a \u201ccolorblind society.\u201d where people are judged on the content of their character and not the color of their skin, was once embraced by Americans of all political stripes.\u00a0Now progressives consider that ideal to be a form of racism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>When even the ideals put forward by Martin Luther King are considered racist, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">we\u2019ve gone round the bend<\/span><\/em>. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Nothing chills speech more than accusations of racism. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">*<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong>Freedom of thought, opinion, and expression is the basis of a fair society \u2014 and we\u2019re quickly losing that freedom in order to appease the Gods of political correctness.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">*\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Except, of course, if the accuser be a Dimocrat&#8230;and the accused be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we<\/em><\/span>; of Native American heritage<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;It&#8217;s very sad that Rachel has not just been herself,&#8221; Ruthanne Dolezal said. &#8220;Her effectiveness in the causes of the African-American community would have been so much more viable, and she would have been more effective if she had just been honest with everybody.&#8221;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Ruthanne Dolezal said that her daughter began to &#8220;disguise herself&#8221; (2) Republicans have a \u201cpope problem,\u201d which is to say that Francis espouses leftish views on economics and \u201cclimate change.\u201d (3) Mrs. Clinton opposes <em>Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission<\/em> and similar free-speech decisions. Absent wild cards, if Mrs. Clinton holds all four aces, it is therefore impossible for another player to have a royal flush.
