It’s Friday, September 4th, 2015…and as it’s been a long week, and frankly we’re more than a little burned out, here’s an abbreviated edition of The Gouge!<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The United States entered negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in an undeniable position of strength.<\/strong><\/span> Sanctions on Iran were working as intended: causing the Iranian currency to crumble, wreaking havoc on Iran\u2019s financial sector, and dramatically cutting Iran\u2019s oil exports. Iran\u2019s economy was teetering on the verge of collapse. As President Obama noted earlier this year, the United States imposed \u201cthe toughest sanctions in history\u201d that \u201chelped bring Iran to the negotiating table.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During the final presidential debate in October 2012, the president outlined his necessary condition for a deal, declaring: \u201cThe deal we\u2019ll accept is they end their nuclear program<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> It\u2019s very straightforward<\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

However, once at the negotiating table, it was clear that President Obama wasn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> motivated to strike the best deal possible to end Iran\u2019s nuclear program. Instead, he was intent on striking any<\/em><\/span> deal \u2014 even a bad one<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the process, President Obama\u2019s chief negotiators ignored nearly 40 years of open Iranian hostility toward America and our allies. They also chose to ignore the fact that Iran has repeatedly broken the terms of its previous international agreements \u2014 breaches that prove Tehran\u2019s word is worth only as much as the paper it\u2019s written on.<\/p>\n

…The end result is a disastrous deal that not only fails to stop Iran\u2019s nuclear weapon capability<\/span> \u2014 it also paves the path for Iran to become a nuclear state<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em>…”<\/p>\n
