It’s Wednesday, January 24th, 2018…but before we begin, if we weren’t already<\/em><\/span> done with the NFL as a result of its continued countenance of the Nuts Who Say Knee<\/em><\/span><\/a>, we’d be doubly-done<\/em><\/span> with it now<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

NFL rejects veterans group’s Super Bowl ad urging<\/span> people to stand for the anthem<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

“The nation’s largest veterans service organization had been invited by the NFL to place an ad in the Super Bowl LII program. AMVET’s advertisement included a two-word message – “#PleaseStand.”<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0“It’s a simple, polite request that represents the sentiment of our membership, particularly those whose missing or paralyzed limbs preclude standing,” wrote National Commander Marion Polk in a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.<\/p>\n

…NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy defended the league’s decision to ban the American Veterans’ advertisement noting that the game day program “is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams and the Super Bowl.” “It’s never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement,”\u00a0McCarthy told Army Times.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So, the NFL believes that politely asking people to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner is akin to making a political statement<\/span><\/em>?<\/strong><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

…Perhaps the Goodell was concerned that a \u201cpolitical statement\u201d in the game day program<\/span> might take away<\/span> from the \u201cpolitical statements\u201d being made on the football field when players take a knee<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Freedom of speech works both ways<\/em><\/span>. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest, as these rights are precisely what our members have fought – and in many cases died – for,” Polk wrote.<\/span> “But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale<\/em><\/span>.”<\/strong><\/span>…”<\/p>\n

To which we can only add a most emphatic “AMEN<\/em><\/span>“!!!\u00a0 As far as we’re concerned, Roger Goodell and the entire NFL hierarchy, along with the protesting players, can all<\/em><\/span> go…<\/strong><\/p>\n
