{"id":66645,"date":"2019-01-29T18:38:13","date_gmt":"2019-01-29T23:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=66645"},"modified":"2019-01-29T18:38:25","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T23:38:25","slug":"the-daily-gouge-archive-monday-january-28th-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=66645","title":{"rendered":"The Daily Gouge Archive, Monday, January 28th, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s Monday, January 28th, 2019&#8230;but before we begin, we offer you a conundrum, a riddle as it were: what&#8217;s the difference between the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/427156-clinton-not-ruling-out-running-in-2020-report\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Hillary running again in 2020<\/em><\/span><\/a> on the Dimocrats&#8217; chances of winning the White House and a Tu-22M3 landing in a blizzard?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_wpOkUUCoZ8?start=71\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nothing at all.\u00a0 So, as Speed Mach plaintively pleaded, &#8220;<em>RUN<\/em>, Hillary&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Nrz8ma-GskY?start=37\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>RUN<\/em><\/span>!!!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, consider this quote, courtesy of the <em>WSJ<\/em>, from C.S. Lewis&#8217; <em>Mere Christianity<\/em>, words every bit as applicable to today&#8217;s toxic political environment as they were when Lewis wrote them back in 1952:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>For a long time I used to think this a silly, straw-splitting distinction: <em>how could you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hate what a man did<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not hate the man<\/span><\/em>? <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But years later it occurred to me that there was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>one<\/em><\/span> man to whom I had been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doing this all my life<\/em><\/span>\u2014namely <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>myself<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>However much<\/em><\/span> I might dislike my own cowardice or conceit or greed, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I went on loving myself<\/em><\/span>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\">Just <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>because<\/em><\/span> I loved myself, I was sorry to find that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I<\/em><\/span><em> was<\/em><em> the sort of man who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">did<\/span> those things<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Consequently, Christianity does not want us to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>reduce<\/em> <em>by one atom<\/em><\/span> the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hatred we feel for cruelty and treachery<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">We <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ought<\/em><\/span> to hate them.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Not one word of what we have said about them needs to be unsaid<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>does<\/em><\/span> want us to hate them <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in the same way in which we hate things in ourselves<\/em><\/span>: <em>being <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sorry<\/span><em> that the man should have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">done<\/span> such things, and <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hoping<\/span><em>, if it is anyway possible, that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">somehow, sometime, somewhere<\/span>, he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">can be cured and made human again<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>real test<\/em><\/span> is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span>.<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em> Suppose<\/em><\/span> one reads a story of filthy atrocities in the paper.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Then suppose<\/em><\/span> that something turns up <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>suggesting that the story might not be quite true<\/em><\/span>, or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not quite so bad as it was made out<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Is one\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>first feeling<\/em><\/span>, \u201cThank God, even they aren\u2019t quite so bad as that,\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>or<\/em><\/span> is it a feeling of disappointment, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and even a determination to cling to the first story for the sheer pleasure of thinking your enemies as bad as possible<\/em><\/span>?<\/span> If it is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the second<\/em><\/span> then it is, I am afraid, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the first step in a process which, if followed to the end, will make us into devils<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">You see, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>one is beginning to wish that black was a little blacker<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/sk012519dAPR20190124044512.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-66610\" 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>If we give <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that wish<\/em><\/span> its head, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>later on<\/em><\/span> we shall wish to see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>grey as black<\/em><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>then<\/em><\/span> to see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>white itself as black<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Finally<\/em><\/span>, we shall <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>insist on seeing everything<\/em><\/span>\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>God and our friends and ourselves included<\/em><\/span>\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>as bad<\/em><\/span>, and <em>not be able to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stop<\/span> doing it<\/em>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">we shall be fixed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for ever<\/em><\/span> in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a universe of pure hatred<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which is where, we&#8217;re sorry to say, a significant portion of contemporary Progressives find themselves religion has had hypocrites. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Catholic Church is no exception \u2014 it is, like all churches and all religions, full of sinners.<\/span> In fact, that is its boast: pope was a man who fled from the Passion and death of his Lord, betraying Jesus three times rather than suffer beside him.<\/span> One of the Church\u2019s first great saints was a man who spent much of his life zealously persecuting and killing the earliest Christians.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Both<\/em><\/span> men <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>repented<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Both<\/em><\/span> were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>martyred for their faith<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Andrew Cuomo<\/em><\/span>, their brother in baptism, has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>yet<\/em><\/span> to find <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>his<\/em><\/span> road to Damascus.<\/span> The governor of New York is proud to be a Catholic, but, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>like his father before him<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only when it suits his political purposes<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mario Cuomo (who, were we a betting man, is now enjoying one of the hotter areas in Hades) indeed broke new ground in hypocrisy when, while maintaining he was personally opposed to the slaughter of the unborn, claimed he was compelled by a clear preponderance of his constituents to support it.\u00a0 The hypocrisy comes in when, despite a clear majority of New York voters advocating for its application, the good governor banned the death penalty because of his personal opposition to capital punishment.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but his son Andrew&#8217;s &#8220;baptism&#8221; has as much in common with either Peter&#8217;s or Paul&#8217;s as do the &#8220;ministries&#8221; of <a href=\"https:\/\/timeline.com\/this-televangelist-cried-in-front-of-8-000-people-after-being-caught-with-hookers-5fcdde5c6908\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jimmy Swaggart<\/em><\/span><\/a>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jim Bakker<\/em><\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csicop.org\/specialarticles\/show\/the_woman_who_took_on_popoff_the_hidden_story_of_crystal_sanchez_the_peter_\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Peter Popoff<\/em><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/nation-world\/article195841759.html\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Kenneth Copeland<\/em><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AdH2DGSXjss\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jesse underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Creflo Dollar<\/em><\/span><\/a> have with the late, great Billy Graham&#8217;s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Though it&#8217;s easy to deem as detestable those who, like Andrew Cuomo, for no reason other than moral opposition to their political policies already hate and vilify you, Christ calls us to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hate the sin<\/em><\/span> while <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>loving the sinner<\/em><\/span>, just as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Christ loved us<\/em><\/span>!\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Never<\/em><\/span> let yourself lose sight of this truth, as difficult as <span style=\"text-decoration: Provide modern-day versions of\u00a0<i>Bread and Circuses<\/i>\u00a0to distract the commoners from what actually matters:<\/b>\u00a0<strong>&#8220;the golden age of TV&#8221; and binge-watching; a cultural obsession with glorifying oneself via selfies posted on Facebook and Instagram; tweeting outrage and indignation on Twitter; a corporate-state media which magnifies insignificant events into social crises, political &#8220;leaders&#8221; who intentionally inflame polarization and conflict and so on.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Combine <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all<\/em><\/span> these distracting circuses into <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>one 24\/7 system-overload<\/em><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what do you get<\/em><\/span>?<\/span>\u00a0A populace <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so<\/em><\/span> distracted, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so<\/em><\/span> stressed, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so<\/em><\/span> emotionally dazed that they are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unable to focus on the predatory exploitation of the ruling elites<\/em><\/span>, <em>much less figure out how to <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">change<\/span><em> the neofeudal status quo<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>2. Divide the populace with calculatedly divisive cultural issues and turn the commoner class against itself:<\/strong><\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">with no middle ground and no shared class identity allowed, the populace is easily sliced and diced into angry, disaffected tribes who blame whomever media propaganda has targeted as &#8220;the other&#8221; for the nation&#8217;s woes.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/are-you-loving-your-servitude-yet-2012-7\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Huxley spoke of\u00a0loving our servitude<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/b><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>: <em>if we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">let<\/span> the ruling elites distract and divide us, then we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">will<\/span> in effect be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">choosing<\/span> to love our servitude<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No wonder<\/em><\/span> the ruling elites love how easily we&#8217;re distracted and divided against ourselves: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>it&#8217;s so easy to dominate a distracted, divided, blinded-by-propaganda and negative emotions populace<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Because it diverts the attention of many from the (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Though we&#8217;d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still<\/em><\/span> maintain <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>far more<\/em><\/span> of those dedicated to this deception have a (D) after their names on ballots across the country than an (R).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which brings us to\u00a0<em>The Lighter Side<\/em>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/I-love-NY.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-66586\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/I-love-NY.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"462\" height=\"301\"
