(If you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>like<\/em><\/span> your plan&#8230;you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>can\u2019t keep<\/em><\/span> your plan.)<\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">She said she supports the Green New Deal \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no follow up questions on<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/the-not-so-pretty-fine-print-of-the-green-new-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">banning private ownership of cars, banning internal-combustion engines entirely, and cutting the military in half<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Also last night, Twitter started buzzing about an\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WillisJermane\/status\/1089983025713213440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1089983025713213440&amp;ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theamericanmirror.com%2F2010-kamala-harris-laughed-about-jailing-parents-over-truant-children%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">old video of Harris<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0talking about her decision to start prosecuting parents for the truancy of their children.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">I believe a child going without an education is tantamount to a crime.<\/span> So, I decided I was going to start prosecuting parents for truancy.<\/strong><\/span> Well, this was a little controversial in San Francisco! (laughs) Frankly, my staff went bananas. They were very concerned, at the time, we didn\u2019t know at the time whether I was going to have an opponent in my reelection race. I said, look I\u2019m done. This is a serious issue, and I\u2019ve got a little political capital, and I\u2019m going to spend some of it. And this is what we did. <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">We recognized, as a prosecutor in law enforcement, I have a huge stick.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>(<\/strong><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Who does she think she is: Willie Brown?!?<\/strong><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>)<\/strong><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The school system has got a carrot.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Let\u2019s work in tandem around our collective objective and goal, which is to get those kids in school.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Maybe there\u2019s something in the water out here in Indian Wells, but am I soft on crime if I think a situation of a student\u2019s chronic truancy probably needs a social worker, and not the state AG or local DA threatening to put the parents in jail?<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>How much teen truancy occurs <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">with parental consent<\/span><\/em>?<\/strong><\/span> How many parents of truant kids are dealing with some other significant issue \u2014 drug use, an absent parent, financial pressures, unusual working hours, or some other complication that enables the truancy? In the above video, Harris gleefully tells a story of a parent \u201cfreaking out\u201d upon receiving the letter announcing the policy. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Does <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span>&#8230;<em>sound like reassuring law-enforcement judgment <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">to you<\/span><\/em>?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>We\u2019re in an era during which we\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>decriminalizing<\/em><\/span> some drug offenses, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>repealing<\/em><\/span> mandatory minimums, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>giving prosecutors and judges more discretion<\/em><\/span>&#8230;and of course, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Kamala Harris has never encountered an illegal immigrant she wanted to deport in a state full of sanctuary cities<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we\u2019re going to throw parents of truant kids in prison<\/em><\/span>?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>This<\/em><\/span> is where we <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>get tough<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>lock \u2018em up<\/em><\/span>?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><i>\u201cI believe a child going without an education is tantamount to a crime.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><span style=\"color: #800080;\">That sounds <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>really good as an applause line in a speech<\/em><\/span>, but \u201ccrime\u201d should not become a synonym for \u201csomething bad\u201d or \u201csomething tragic\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in the minds of prosecutors<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not every<\/em><\/span> bad situation <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>can be resolved by putting somebody in jail<\/em><\/span> \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>particularly putting parents in jail in order to resolve a family problem<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>But hey, if you like Harris\u2019s views on jailing parents of truants,<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/01\/kamala-harris-life-career-california-senator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wait until you hear her views on civil-asset forfeiture<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wait, did someone mention asset forfeiture?\u00a0 In what the great <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; executions<\/span><\/em>?\u201d he asked. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>key<\/em><\/span> to revolution <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in his mind<\/em><\/span> \u2014 and in those of his revolutionary antecedents and descendants \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was terror<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> \u201cWe shall <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>return<\/em><em> to terror<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #800080;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em> to economic terror<\/em><\/span>,\u201d he promised, <em>in a revolution of \u201cunrestricted power <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">based on force<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not law<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Senator Warren apparently has found her guiding spirit and has announced along with her presidential campaign a campaign of economic terror <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>based on force<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not law<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Specifically, she has proposed to begin seizing a portion of the\u00a0<em>assets<\/em>\u00a0of some wealthy Americans, <em>a course of action that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the federal government has no constitutional power to undertake<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> The seizure of assets is a fundamentally different thing from the taxation of income, which <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>itself<\/em><\/span> took a constitutional amendment to implement. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">What Warren is proposing is essentially a federal version of the hated asset-forfeiture programs that have been so much abused by law-enforcement agencies \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>minus the allegation of criminal misconduct and made universal and annual<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The senator is in a bit of a panic: She hadn\u2019t expected to face a challenge from her left in her quest for the Democratic nomination, <em>but as her entire party lurches in a\u00a0ch\u00e1vista\u00a0direction, she has been forced to go <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">one step farther<\/span> lest she fall into the \u201cmoderate\u201d class, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">whose members almost certainly will be slaughtered in the 2020 Democratic primary<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">And so she proposes this <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ridiculous and illegal<\/em><\/span> course of action.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>She <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>may not be<\/em><\/span> the radical she <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pretends to be<\/em><\/span>, but Senator Warren <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has pretended to be a lot of Congressional Oversight Panel \u2014 was called \u201cCOP.\u201d<\/span> Her \u201cprofessor of color\u201d act got her a couple of cushy academic postings <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span> a net worth of a few million dollars. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">I covered her Senate race against Scott Brown and watched her doing a pretty poor impersonation of an Irish-American ward-heeler in Boston, clapping along awkwardly to \u201cCharlie on the M.T.A.\u201d like some animatronic Muldoon.<\/span> <em>If she has to pretend to be Hugo Ch\u00e1vez, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">it won\u2019t be her first act of cultural appropriation<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">And <em>the recipe book <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">should<\/span> be a hoot<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Funny thing about Senator Warren\u2019s asset-forfeiture scheme. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Like many similar proposals, it probably would not raise much revenue and might in fact leave the country as a whole economically worse off.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>And the people advising Senator Warren on that are perfectly content with that outcome<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>because<\/em><\/span>, as Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman argue in the case of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s proposal to radically increase income taxes, <em>this is to be understood <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not as an economic question<\/span> but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">as a moral one<\/span><\/em>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>It is simply morally obligatory to hurt wealthy people<\/em><\/span>.<span style=\"color: #333399;\"> \u201cThe point of high top marginal income tax rates is to constrain the immoderate, <em>and especially <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unmerited<\/span><\/em>, accumulation of riches,\u201d they write.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">who gets to decide<\/span> what\u2019s merited and what\u2019s unmerited<\/em>? <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>What are the chances<\/em><\/span> that, say, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Senator Warren\u2019s<\/em><\/span> modest millions or her multimillion-dollar home <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are deemed \u201cunmerited\u201d<\/span><\/em>?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>What decides<\/em><\/span>, of course, is \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unrestricted power based on force, not law<\/em><\/span>,\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>because the law cannot substantially answer that kind of question but can only instead encode the desires of people with power<\/em><\/span>, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">which is what Senator Warren<\/span> is seeking <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more<\/span> of<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em>Again<\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we have been here before<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tssvl-ejoz4\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" underline;\"><em>you<\/em><\/span> had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>one cow<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>your neighbor<\/em><\/span> had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>two<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he<\/em><\/span> was a kulak. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Stalin announced the \u201cliquidation of the kulaks as a class\u201d as a necessary precondition for the progress of his program, <em>which was<\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>like Kamala Harris<\/em><\/span>, \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for the people<\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/span> Dekulakization (\u0440\u0430\u0441\u043a\u0443\u043b\u0430\u0447\u0438\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0435) was responsible for the deaths of about 5 million subjects of the workers\u2019 paradise. <span style=\"color: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>But do our modern progressives really propose to liquidate these \u201choarders\u201d as a class?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Saez and Zucman write hopefully of the prospect that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>high tax rates would make the class of people with larger incomes<\/em><\/span> \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>largely disappear<\/em><\/span>.\u201d <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Representative Ocasio-Cortez declares it \u201cimmoral\u201d that we have a \u201csystem that allows\u00a0billionaires\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">to exist<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>Is it any wonder <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/427364-some-dems-float-idea-of-primary-challenge-for-ocasio-cortez\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\">some Dimocrats are floating the idea of sponsoring a primary opponent to this buffoon in 2020<\/span><\/a>?!?<\/em>)<\/span>\u00a0Marshall Steinbaum, the research director of the progressive Roosevelt Institute, wrote: \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>It\u2019s increasingly clear that having wealthy people around is underline;\"><em>Also<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everybody who disagrees with me is a Nazi, including children wearing hats that I don\u2019t Taliban<\/em><\/span> should depend on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>trusting the Taliban<\/em><\/span> to defeat the terrorists who seek to strike us here at home.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No deal with the Taliban<\/em><\/span> should <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>leave our allies at the mercy of the Taliban<\/em><\/span>.<span
