I am perfectly willing to concede that the number of women who seek to \u201cabort\u201d fully viable, born, or near-born babies is small as a statistical matter. But so what<\/em><\/span>?<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0It\u2019s not zero<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0(If it were, Kermit Gosnell wouldn\u2019t be in jail.) The number of truly<\/span> innocent people put to death via capital punishment is smaller<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> That doesn\u2019t make killing an innocent person any less outrageous. Barbara Boxer famously suggested that it\u2019s not a baby until you<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0bring it home from the hospital<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0That<\/span> is grotesque<\/span><\/em>. It\u2019s like a magical incantation that rewinds the clock of human progress by millennia, made no less barbaric because it was said on the Senate floor<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Indeed, saying it on the Senate floor<\/em><\/span> made it\u00a0more<\/em><\/span>\u00a0barbaric.<\/strong><\/span> When barbarians hacked and cleaved one another in the Black Forest, their barbarism seems natural. When they sacked Rome, the backdrop sets off the barbarism.<\/p>\n

When we talk about capital punishment, opponents and supporters alike<\/span> pay tribute to the importance of safeguards and due process<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> When supporters of abortion on demand<\/em><\/span> talk about abortion, they make it sound like any talk of safeguards<\/span> is an outrage<\/span> and any outrage over the murder of a baby<\/span> is religious extremism<\/span><\/em><\/strong>…<\/span><\/span>“<\/p>\n
