class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>We must regretfully observe certain Conservatives haven&#8217;t proved immune from the creeping tide of political correctness, as this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/02\/students-drop-vagina-from-the-vagina-monologues-to-be-more-inclusive\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=NR%20Daily%20Monday%20through%20Friday%202019-02-20&amp;utm_term=NRDaily-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>commentary by NRO&#8217;s Kat Timp<\/em><\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>f<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>on Washington University&#8217;s recent decision to drop the &#8220;Vagina&#8221; from <em>The Vagina Monologues<\/em>\u00a0demonstrates:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;In fact, the performance has become so controversial that its author, Eve Ensler, addressed the issue in an interview with\u00a0<em>Time<\/em>\u00a0in 2015:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><em>\u2018<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">The Vagina Monologues\u2019 never intended to be a play about what it means to be a woman.<\/span> It is and always has been a play about what it means to have a vagina.<\/strong><\/span> In the play, I never defined a woman as a person with a vagina.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ensler is absolutely correct. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Whether you identify as a woman or as a man, having a vagina is, in fact, a unique experience. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Yes \u2014 in case you didn\u2019t know this, there are things that you will experience with a vagina that you will not experience without a vagina, and VM is a work of art that\u2019s meant to be centered around those unique experiences.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>How<\/em><\/span> is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span> offensive? <span style=\"color: #333399;\">After all, art as a whole is made up of many different creative works that center around many different sorts of experiences.<\/span> If you have a problem with VM because it doesn\u2019t encompass every sort of experience, then you must have a problem with<em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">every<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>work of art \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>because I don\u2019t know of a single one that doesn\u2019t tackle only a particular issue or subject matter<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>So far so good, though we&#8217;d personally never term such a work as Ensler&#8217;s &#8220;art&#8221;, any more than we&#8217;d grant such approbation to anything produced by <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Andres Serrano or Robert Mapplethorpe<\/span>.\u00a0 But here&#8217;s where, in our opinion, Kat goes off the rails:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>People who identify as women but do not have vaginas absolutely deserve <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>acceptance<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>respect<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>No<\/em>,&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span> they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>don&#8217;t<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 People who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>identify<\/em><em> as women<\/em><\/span> but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>do not have vaginas<\/em><\/span> are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>men<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>men with a serious mental condition<\/em><\/span>, and thus are <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">deserving\u00a0only of our sympathy<\/span><\/em>&#8230;and the same treatment we accord any other of God&#8217;s creatures.\u00a0 But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we<\/em><\/span> are under <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no obligation whatsoever<\/em><\/span> to &#8220;<em>accept<\/em>&#8221; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>anyone<\/em><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>our respect<\/em><\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>earned<\/em><\/span>; and <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">then<\/span><\/em>, frankly, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>by damn few people<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span> naughty Kitten has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>lost her mind<\/em><\/span>&#8230;as well as her mittens&#8230;hence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems\/46968\/the-three-little-kittens-they-lost-their-mittens\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>she shall get no <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First, up, writing at his <em>Morning Jolt<\/em>, Jim Geraghty details the Socialists sympathies of&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/bernie-sanders-is-proof-that-you-cant-teach-an-old-dog-new-tricks\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bernie Sanders, the Unchanging Man<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Feel-the-Bern.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67162\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Feel-the-Bern.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"217\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>again<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bernie Sanders is pretty much the exact <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>same guy<\/em><\/span> that he was four decades ago, running on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>same platform<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>With a little racial divisiveness thrown in for good measure!<\/em>)<\/span> He\u2019s making the same arguments for the same ideas about how America needs a socialist revolution that puts an end to millionaires and billionaires and private hospitals and moves social services from charities to government institutions.<\/strong><\/span> He\u2019s always been friendly to leftist critics of America overseas and radicals eager to tear down the existing order and has been at best skeptical of U.S. military actions abroad (except during the Clinton administration) and U.S. intelligence agencies. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Becoming a millionaire<\/em><em> didn\u2019t prompt him to revise his relentless demonization of millionaires as greedy<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Bernie.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67228\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Bernie.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Bernie.png 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Bernie-300x290.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The collapse of the Soviet Union, several American economic booms, innovative technological revolutions, the fracking and energy boom, the alleviation of poverty around the world through global trade over the past two generations \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>none of them<\/em><\/span> prompted him to change much of what he thinks about economics, politics, international relations, or society.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No government management scandal of the past four decades<\/em><\/span> \u2014 vets dying while waiting for care at the Department of Veterans Affairs, vast sums on nonfunctional web sites, lavish conferences at the General Services Administration, IRS abuses, Fast and Furious, substandard conditions for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, endless allegations of cronyism, favoritism, and incompetence \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has shaken Sanders\u2019s faith that the federal government is equipped and ready to handle huge new programs that would exercise much more control over the daily lives of Americans<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No country\u2019s experience with socialism<\/em><\/span>, or countries that call themselves socialist, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has prompted him to rethink whether the concepts work as well as the advocates insist<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>In a 2016 debate, he showed his praise for Fidel Castro in 1985, saying that Castro \u201ceducated their kids, gave them health care, totally transformed their society.\u201d <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Moderator Maria Elena Salinas asked Sanders <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>three times<\/em><\/span> if he regretted his characterizations of Nicaragua\u2019s authoritarian ruler Daniel Ortega and Fidel Castro.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Three times, Sanders dodged<\/em><\/span>, saying that \u201cthe key issue here was whether the United States should go around overthrowing small Latin American countries\u201d and finally reiterating his praise for Castro\u2019s regime: \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>It would be wrong not to state that in Cuba they have made some good advances in health care<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">They are sending doctors <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all over the world<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> They have made some progress in education.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Back in 2016, Venezuela\u2019s dictatorial president, Nicolas Maduro, said that he supported Bernie Sanders in the U.S. presidential race, adding that the candidate, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, would win if the vote were \u201cfree.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> (Sanders was uncharacteristically quiet about Venezuelan politics since Maduro came to power, but he offered some criticism of the Maduro regime in January.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>He has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>his<\/em><\/span> theories about how the world <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ought<\/em><\/span> to work, <em>and he\u2019s going to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stick to it<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which will most certainly entail <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sticking it to<\/em><\/span> the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>productive members<\/em><\/span> of American society.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Not to be outdone by her millionaire Communist competition, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>She Who Speaks With Forked Tongue<\/em><\/span> raises the stakes in the Dimocratic race to empty the country&#8217;s coffers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 headquarters, ensure your board had a few minorities, donate to the party, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and the Democrats were generally going to be happy to see you<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In other words, left-leaning billionaires were happy to ally with the Democratic party on a wide range of social issues<em> as the party enacted policies that posed no real threat to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">their<\/span> wealth and stature<\/em> (<em>although they may hinder <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">others<\/span>\u2019 efforts to climb the economic ladder<\/em>).<\/span> Throughout the Obama era, it became clear that political, financial, and cultural elites were (deliberately or inadvertently) establishing a progressive aristocracy \u2014 <em>where once you had the right credentials and connections, and gave generously to the right causes, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you were insulated from any real criticism or consequences of your actions<\/span><\/em>. <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nobody gave Tim Geithner grief for botching his taxes, environmentalists grief for their private jets, gun-control advocates flak for their armed security, or voucher opponents problems for sending their kids to private school. Filmmaker Michael Moore used non-union labor and lived to tell the tale; lawmakers insisting anything less than $15 per-hour wages was inhumane thought nothing about having unpaid interns. Apparently, the actions of Harvey Weinstein and Les Moonves were open secrets, but few high-profile feminist activists ever gave them too much grief; crossing them meant making a powerful enemy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>At a certain level of status, <em>everyone agreed to avert their eyes from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">contradictions<\/span> between <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">how you live<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">what you profess<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>The new socialism-friendly Democrats <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">may not be willing to maintain this arrangement<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Ironically, <em>the part of this hypocrisy that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">find most offensive<\/span> is the part that <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the Right finds least offensive<\/span>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>being wealthy<\/em><\/span>. <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Most conservatives don\u2019t care if Al Gore uses a lot of electricity, Bloomberg has armed personal security guards, or that Democratic presidents send their kids to Sidwell Friends.<\/span><strong><em> Just don\u2019t use <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">your<\/span> wealth and power to take away <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">our options<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Even now, <em>those who are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">quite wealthy<\/span> on the Left are eager to establish that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">threshold<\/span> for problematic wealth<\/em> <em>begins<\/em> <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just above<\/span> what <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they<\/span> could reasonably expect to earn<\/em>, barring some unexpected good luck.<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Elizabeth Warren wants to \u201cimpose a 2 percent tax on Americans\u2019 net worth above $50 million and a 3 percent tax on wealth above $1 billion.\u201d<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> Judging from her released tax
