Police Now Suspect [She] Set the Fire [Herself]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"subtitle\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/25\/nikki-joly-fire-jackson-hoax-hate-crime\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cops arrested Nikki Joly of Jackson, Michigan, for alleged hoax that resulted in the death of [her] five pets<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2ux1m0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67399\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2ux1m0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2ux1m0.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2ux1m0-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">In 2017, prominent Michigan LGBT activist Nikki Joly, a transgender [woman], was the victim of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>an apparent hate crime<\/em><\/span>: An unknown arsonist burned down [her] house, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>which had two dogs and three cats trapped inside<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\"> Some presumed the act was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>retaliatory<\/em><\/span>\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a response to Joly&#8217;s successful campaign to persuade the government of Jackson, Michigan, to adopt an anti-discrimination law<\/em><\/span>, for which a local newspaper declared [her] &#8220;Citizen of the Year.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Now the police finally have a suspect in custody: Joly.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Police have long suspected that Joly set the fire [herself], though it took a while to collect sufficient evidence.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Joly didn&#8217;t own the house, and thus did not collect any insurance money from it.<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>[She] <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>did<\/em><\/span> receive <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more than $58,000 in donations<\/em><\/span>, however.<\/strong><\/span> <strong>[She] <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>may<\/em><\/span> have suggested to friends that [<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>she] was upset about the diminished attention being paid to [her] advocacy in the wake of the anti-discrimination law&#8217;s passage<\/em><\/span>\u2014a possible motive, according to the police<\/strong><\/span><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>One needn&#8217;t be an Einstein to discern the pattern here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_6298-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67400\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_6298-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_6298-1.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_6298-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_6298-1-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/boomtown-for-hoaxers-11551399509\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>the editors at the WSJ observed<\/em><\/span><\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Whatever one thinks of the 45th President\u2019s policy views and his tendency to make crude and insensitive remarks, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>America under Mr. Trump isn\u2019t much different from America under Barack Obama<\/em><\/span>, which wasn\u2019t much different from America under George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">It <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>remains<\/em> <em>a country populated mainly by decent and tolerant people who have no interest in persecuting their neighbors for looking and sounding different<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Minorities of all kinds are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sometimes<\/em><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(&#8220;<em>sometimes<\/em>&#8220;: see, &#8220;<em>infrequently, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">very<\/span><\/em>&#8220;)<\/span> treated badly in contemporary America. <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><em>Thanks to modern progressivism\u2019s obsession with victimization<\/em>, however, <em>America <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">today<\/span> is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">boomtown for hoaxers<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of every size, shape and special interest self-identification.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of fabrications, writing at the <em>WSJ<\/em>, Dan Henninger details&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-democrats-fake-outrage-11551312755\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Democrats\u2019 Fake Outrage<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"sub-head\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-democrats-fake-outrage-11551312755\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The survival of three Virginia Democrats is grand hypocrisy\u2014and a return to sanity<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/bg022619dAPC20190225104512.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67379\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/bg022619dAPC20190225104512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/bg022619dAPC20190225104512.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/bg022619dAPC20190225104512-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;The outrage has receded to a trickle. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>The three men remain in office, <em>and the chances any will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">leave<\/span> are about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">zero<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>You have to hand it to someone\u2014Mr. Northam or the identity-politics crisis team he hired (naturally it has spawned an industry)\u2014who figured out that the smart play was to gut it out, albeit with a now-mandatory display of groveling and apologies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Hypocrisy<\/em>?<\/span> <em>Of course, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and on a grand scale<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>A double standard<\/em><\/span>?<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Who can doubt it<\/em><\/span>? <em>If this were happening to the top three Texas Republicans<\/em>\u2014Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the national media wouldn\u2019t have let up for a day until they quit<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">But maybe there is a third way to view what has become of these Virginia episodes. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Why not call it a return to sanity about what should qualify as cause to obliterate an individual\u2019s career?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Opinion polls say <em>a plurality of Virginians <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">don\u2019t want<\/span> the three men to resign<\/em>.<\/strong> <\/span>Quinnipiac\u2019s poll interestingly found 56% of black voters saying Gov. Northam should stay. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em>What this suggests is that the identity-politics left<\/em>\u2014for all the media play it gets and despite its intimidation of national Democrats\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is operating in an alternative universe from many voters<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It never made sense that most Americans would share the left\u2019s taste for purification rituals or its compulsion to annihilate offenders of its identity orthodoxies, not least by overturning elections.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If Ralph Northam deserves a reprieve, and he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>does<\/em><\/span>, then <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so do others<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>including<\/em><\/span> Republicans and conservatives.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Fat chance<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Fat chance&#8221; is right!\u00a0 THAT is where the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>real<\/em><\/span> hypocrisy&#8217;s to be found: none of the outrage is authentic.\u00a0 Rather it&#8217;s pure political Kabuki.\u00a0 And anyone convinced, no matter <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what<\/em><\/span> voters may think, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>either Progressive politicians or their MSM shills will afford future Republicans\u00a0caught under similar circumstances even a semblance of sanity<\/em><\/span>&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a at\u00a0<em>American Greatness<\/em>, the great Victor Davis Hanson recounts&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"entry-title fusion-post-title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-fontsize=\"30\" text-decoration: underline;\">California\u2019s Rendezvous With Reality<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2_272019_b1hansonlgcaliforni8201_s1638x2048.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full #ff0000;\"><strong>They talk as reverentially of Silicon Valley companies Apple, Facebook and Google as the ancient Greeks did of their Olympian gods. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Hollywood and universities such as Caltech, Stanford and Berkeley are cited as permanent proof of the intellectual, aesthetic and technological dominance of West Coast culture.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Californians also see their progressive, one-party state as a neo-socialist model for a nation moving hard to the left. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>But how long will they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>retain<\/em><\/span> such confidence?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>California\u2019s 40 million residents depend on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>less than 1 percent of the state\u2019s taxpayers<\/em><\/span> to pay <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nearly half of the state income tax<\/em><\/span>, which for California\u2019s highest tier of earners tops out at the nation\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>highest rate<\/em><\/span> of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>13.3 percent<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>In other words, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>California cannot afford to lose even a few thousand of its wealthiest individual taxpayers<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But a new federal tax law now caps deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000\u2014<em>a radical change that promises to cost <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">many<\/span> high-earning taxpayers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">tens of thousands of dollars<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> If even <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a few thousand<\/em><\/span> of the state\u2019s 1 percent flee to nearby no-tax states such as Nevada or Texas, <em>California <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">could<\/span> face a devastating shortfall in annual income<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>In sum, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>California has no margin for error<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Spiraling entitlements, unwieldy pension costs, money wasted on high-speed rail, inadequate water storage and delivery, and lax immigration policies were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>formerly<\/em><\/span> tolerable <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only because about 150,000 Californians paid huge but federally deductible state income taxes<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No more<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Californians may have once derided the state\u2019s 1 percent as selfish rich people. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Now<\/em><\/span><em>, they are <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>praying<\/em><\/span><em> that <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>these heavily burdened taxpayers stay put and are willing to pay far more than what they had paid before<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>That is the only way California can continue to spend money on projects that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>have not<\/em><\/span> led to safe roads, plentiful water, good schools and safe streets.<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <em>A California reckoning <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is<\/span> on the horizon, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and it may not be pretty<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but climate and scenery only go so far when one is eventually surrounded by illegal aliens, dirty needles and human excrement.\u00a0 And those whose means don&#8217;t quite afford them an escape from the squalor in gated, walled Xanadus overlooking the Pacific or the Bay may find the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), has gotten a lot of press since winning a seat in Congress. <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Despite her non-apology for bigoted, anti-Semitic statements she made earlier this month, Omar <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>remains<\/em><\/span> a virulent anti-Semite. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">But it is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>much worse<\/em><\/span> than that: <em>In addition to likely criminality<\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>her extreme Left positions and connections to terrorists make her a security risk<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"newLineContentFilterParagraph\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Some have demanded she be removed from the House Foreign Relations Committee, a position awarded to her by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.<span style=\"color: #008000;\"> <strong>But she has no business in Congress <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>at all<\/em><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>should<\/em><\/span> at the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>very least<\/em> <em>be investigated for numerous crimes committed over a period of years<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No<\/em><\/span>, Omar, Tlaib, and Ocasio-Cortez <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>are not<\/em><\/span> marginalized within the Democratic Party, despite some criticism from Party members. <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>They actually serve a very specific purpose for Democrats as the Party drifts further and further Left<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Omar <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in particular<\/em><\/span> has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>openly demonstrated<\/em><\/span> her <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pro-terrorist, anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Semitic sentiments<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">She has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>likely committed<\/em><\/span> numerous crimes.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>She has established networks in Somalia to one of its most corrupt governments in history<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>likely connected to al-Shabaab terrorists and thus the entire Middle East terrorist network<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">She is an existential threat to national security<\/span>, and should <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">at the very least<\/span> be removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">if not thrown out of Congress altogether<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> But without significant public pressure and prosecution for her crimes, it probably won&#8217;t happen.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not &#8220;probably won&#8217;t happen&#8221;; rather the odds of her eventual prosecution carry the same likelihood of happening as the convictions of Hillary Clinton, Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, Lois Lerner, John Koskinen, James Clapper, Jim Comey, John Brennan, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe, Rod Rodentstein and Barack Hussein Obama for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>their<\/em><\/span> crimes against the Constitution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which brings us to\u00a0<em>The Lighter Side<\/em>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a
