width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A single-payer health-insurance system can finance good-quality coverage for all U.S. residents <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>while still reducing overall health-care spending<\/em><\/span> by roughly 10%, according to a\u00a0study\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I<\/em><\/span> co-authored last November.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>All Americans<\/em><\/span> would be able to get care from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>their chosen providers<\/em> <em>without having to pay premiums, deductibles or copayments<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wait,&#8230;we&#8217;ll be able to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>keep<\/em><\/span> our doctor&#8230;with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span> premiums or copays&#8230;and overall healthcare spending would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>decline<\/em><\/span>?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wC871hNBig4?start=69\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pollin&#8217;s promises (which sound vaguely familiar!) notwithstanding, when it comes to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>quality<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>accessibility<\/em><\/span> of single-payer healthcare,\u00a0Jim Freeman begs to differ, and offers a little foretaste of what&#8217;s to come:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/who-wants-to-be-bernies-nurse-11553795227?mod=djemBestOfTheWeb\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Who Wants to Be Bernie\u2019s Nurse<\/span><\/a>?<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"sub-head\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/who-wants-to-be-bernies-nurse-11553795227?mod=djemBestOfTheWeb\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; text-decoration: underline;\">There\u2019s no guarantee that health care providers will accept pay cuts and more bureaucracy<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #800080;\">.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/download-1-11.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68555\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/download-1-11.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/download-1-11.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/download-1-11-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;In December the Financial Times\u00a0reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><em>National Health Service staff are quitting their pension scheme at almost five times the rate of other public sector workers as they struggle with rising living costs and tax changes, according to figures that have sparked calls for urgent action by authorities.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><em>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The Financial Times has reported that young doctors were quitting the NHS scheme because they could not afford mandatory contributions amounting to about 7 per cent to 9 per cent of their salary.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>highly relevant<\/em><\/span> to a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>fundamental question about Sen. Sanders\u2019 plan<\/em><\/span> to impose government-run health care: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Will doctors and nurses in the United States continue to willingly practice medicine if the job comes with lower pay and even more bureaucracy than the current highly regulated system<\/em><\/span>?<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So who are you going to believe: Robert Pollin, who&#8217;s peddling the same tired tripe we heard from Progressives when they lied ObamaCare into existence&#8230;or the actual history of single-payer healthcare where it&#8217;s been put in practice?\u00a0 One thing&#8217;s for certain: the likes of Bernie Sanders will never be subject to the slings and arrows of single-payer healthcare&#8217;s outrageous misfortunes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We don&#8217;t know which surprises us more: Progressives <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>continuing to peddle<\/em><\/span> such patent prevarications&#8230;or the <em>WSJ<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>publishing<\/em><\/span> them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>We report<\/em>, <em><span latest cogent criticism of Chicago&#8217;s flourishing corruptocracy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/guybenson\/2019\/03\/29\/illinois-prosecutors-kim-foxxs-handling-of-smollett-was-dishonest-and-unethical--and-may-have-violated-state-law-n2543973\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #800080;\"><strong>Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association: Hey, We Don\u2019t Make Deals Like the One with Smollett<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2xfmnl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Thank you, Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>It\u2019s refreshing to see a professional association that, when confronted with highly unusual, controversial, and possibly unethical behavior by one of its members, didn\u2019t choose to close ranks and protect \u201cone of their own.\u201d <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Instead, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the\u00a0IPBA laid down a clear marker\u00a0of what behavior is normal and standard<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">manner<\/span> in which this case was dismissed was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">abnormal and unfamiliar<\/span> to those<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> who practice law in criminal courthouses across the State<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>alike<\/em><\/span> do not recognize the arrangement Mr. Smollett received.<\/span> <em>Even<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more problematic<\/em><\/span>, <em>the state\u2019s attorney and her representatives<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>have fundamentally misled the public on the law and circumstances surrounding the dismissal<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>There\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>something delightful<\/em><\/span> about the way they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>methodically and systematically\u00a0refute the claims<\/em><\/span> of State\u2019s Attorney Kimberly Foxx\u00a0and her office:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">When an elected State\u2019s Attorney <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">recuses herself<\/span> from a prosecution, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Illinois law<\/span> provides that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the court shall appoint a special prosecutor<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>See 55 ILCS 5\/3-9008(a-15).\u00a0<\/em><\/span><strong><em> <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Typically, the special prosecutor is a neighboring State\u2019s Attorney, the Attorney General, or the State Appellate Prosecutor.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Here<\/span>, the State\u2019s Attorney <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">kept the case within her office<\/span> and thus <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">never actually recused herself as a matter of law<\/span>.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Additionally<\/span>, the Cook County State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s office <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">falsely informed the public that the uncontested sealing of the criminal court case was \u201cmandatory\u201d under Illinois law<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800080;\">This statement <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is not accurate<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"color: #333399;\">To the extent the case was even <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><strong>eligible<\/strong><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong> for an immediate seal, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that action was\u00a0discretionary<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not mandatory<\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only upon the proper filing of a petition to seal<\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span> See 20 ILCS 2630\/5.2(g)(2).\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>For seals not subject to Section 5.2(g)(2), the process employed in this case by the State\u2019s Attorney <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">effectively denied law enforcement agencies of legally required Notice<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>(See 20 ILCS 2630\/5.2(d)(4))<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #800080;\"> and the legal opportunity to object to the sealing of the file<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(See 20 ILCS 2630\/5.2(d)(5))<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><strong>The State\u2019s Attorney <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not only declined to fight the sealing of this case in court<\/span>, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">then provided false information to the public regarding it<\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">appearance<\/span> of impropriety here is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">compounded by the fact that this case was not on the regularly scheduled court call, the public had no reasonable notice or opportunity to view these proceedings, and the dismissal was done abruptly at what has been called an \u201cemergency\u201d hearing<\/span>.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #333399;\">To date, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">nature<\/span> of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">purported emergency<\/span> has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not been publicly disclosed<\/span>.<\/span> <\/em>The sealing of a court case<em> immediately following a hearing where there was no reasonable notice or opportunity for the public to attend <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is a matter of grave public concern and undermines the very foundation of our public court system<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Whatever<\/em><\/span> motivated Foxx to make this deal, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I hope it was worth it to her<\/em><\/span>, <em>because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">this<\/span> controversy <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">isn\u2019t going away anytime soon<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2xfj2f.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68565\" (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>The evidence <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was all over<\/em><\/span> the TV news: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Confessions by his two accomplices<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Surveillance video<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>A canceled check<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Then<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>as if by the very bleach he said was used to attack him<\/em><\/span>, suddenly all charges against Jussie Smollett for faking a hate crime <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>vanished<\/em><\/span> in an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unannounced<\/em><\/span> Chicago court hearing Tuesday.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Mr. Smollett\u2019s insistence on his innocent victimhood, however unctuous, must now be counted a legal masterstroke. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Johnnie Cochran<\/em><\/span> would be impressed.<\/span> It left Chicago prosecutors only the option of near-unconditional surrender <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>if<\/em><\/span> they wanted to make the case <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>go away before Tuesday\u2019s runoff mayoral election<\/em><\/span>\u2014<em>which they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">clearly did<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Whatever your exact theory of how the case was corrupted, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Chicago\u2019s famous Democratic political machine arguably did what was in its own interest<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Kim Foxx, the Cook County state prosecutor, <em>who \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">recused<\/span>\u201d herself but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">didn\u2019t<\/span><\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>obviously had much to lose if the case went to trial, given her early meddling on behalf of the Smollett family<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Well-served also<\/em><\/span> were the two candidates in Tuesday\u2019s all-Democratic runoff for mayor, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>whom it behooved to have a no-win political controversy end on the watch of unpopular outgoing Mayor Rahm Emanuel<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Americans are plenty cynical about elite self-dealing, though now <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span> will surely prefer to believe Jussie\u2019s lies than believe he is a liar. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Others<\/em><\/span> will argue, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cogently<\/span><\/em>, that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>faking a hate crime<\/em><\/span> is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>itself a hate crime<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Then again<em> a preference for lying about such matters <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is becoming epidemic<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Mayor Emanuel on the radio Thursday, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for some reason trying to discourage the feds from investigating the Chicago miscarriage<\/em><\/span>, threw in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a familiar slur about President Trump\u2019s remarks after the Charlottesville riot<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span candidate in Savannah\u2019s mayoral election. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>With signs stating \u201cBlack press only\u201d on the doors of the church where the meeting was held, white reporters were barred from entry, while black reporters for at least two television stations were permitted inside.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>The event was coordinated by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the Rev.<\/em><\/span> Clarence Teddy Williams, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">owner of the consulting firm<\/span><\/em>, The Trigon Group, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>who declined to discuss the entry policy<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Former Savannah Mayor<\/em><\/span> Edna Jackson declined to comment before going inside, as did <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Chatham County Commissioner<\/em><\/span> Chester Ellis.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>\u201cThis is not my idea,\u201d Ellis said.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Savannah Alderman<\/em><\/span> Estella Shabazz, who also attended, <em>said that she had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">once owned a newspaper<\/span> and s<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">he was a member of the black press<\/span><\/em>, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>she declined to comment on the policy barring white reporters from going inside<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>While <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>notes were allowed<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>photos, video and audio recordings were prohibited during the event<\/em><\/span>, according to Stephen Moody, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>an African-American reporter with WJCL, who was allowed entry<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Another reporter from WSAV who attended the meeting was told she could stay because she was black, Moody said.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Shirley James, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the African-American publisher of the black-owned Savannah Tribune<\/em><\/span>, was also seen going into the meeting.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>here&#8217;s<\/em><\/span> the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>best part<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Savannah Alderman Van Johnson<\/em><\/span>, who is one of three African-Americans who have stated their intention to run for mayor, said afterwards that <em>during the meeting he had talked about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\">his vision for an inclusive and progressive Savannah<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>With regards to the discriminatory policy at the door, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Johnson said <span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">he believed people have the right to assemble and determine the rules of their assembly<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:
