underline;\">California professor is slammed for calling fetus &#8216;legitimate parasite&#8217; during lecture on cancer<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/download-21.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-69598\" Evolution of Human Disease,\u00a0&#8220;explores the major epidemiological transitions from ape-like ancestors to foraging tribes, farmers and pastoralists, to the global metropolitan primate we now are. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">We focus on how diseases have shaped humans and how humans have shaped disease over time.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>In the screengrab, the slide refers to a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>preborn child<\/em><\/span>\u00a0as a &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>legitimate parasite<\/em><\/span>&#8221; that &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>invades<\/em><\/span>&#8221; its mother and &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>manipulates&#8221; her immunity<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>&#8220;Most of you probably realize that my point was to show that mammals are especially prone to invasive cancers because mammals evolved invasive placentation,&#8221; he wrote<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">&#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>My point was not to indoctrinate you with the notion that fetuses are cancers<\/em><\/span>, as insinuated in the article.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Lila Rose, the founder and president of Live Action, slammed California&#8217;s public university system and called out the professor for his statement. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>&#8220;Amid scrutiny, UC San Diego professor says <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he didn&#8217;t intend to say &#8216;fetuses and cancers<\/em><\/span>,'&#8221; Rose wrote. &#8220;<em>How about backtracking the term \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">parasite<\/span><\/em>\u201d? <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">These are medically inaccurate &amp; offensive terms, ones that abortion advocates have used for dozens of years to dehumanize children.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The university said the slide said the point of the slide is to show &#8220;mammals are especially prone to invasive cancers, in part because mammals evolved the ability to host fetuses and placentas.&#8221; &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The slide presents common, widely accepted scientific concepts and in no way represents a political statement,&#8221; the university said in a statement<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>And you know, the university is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>right<\/em><\/span>: this <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>wasn&#8217;t<\/em><\/span> a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>political statement<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 Rather it was a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>moral pronouncement<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\"><em>accurately reflecting The Left&#8217;s utter disregard for the sanctity of human life<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Just in case anyone was&#8230;<em>confused<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The expect<\/em><\/span> the special counsel would offer an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unambiguous report<\/em><\/span>\u00a0with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>conclusions not subject to misinterpretation<\/em><\/span>?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: this was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all<\/em><\/span> part and parcel to &#8220;the plan&#8221;: they couldn&#8217;t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>prove<\/em>\u00a0<em>t<\/em><em>heir<\/em><em> facts<\/em><\/span>, so now they&#8217;re seeking <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to condemn by innuendo<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Andy McCarthy called the play some underline;\">Biden Is Well-Positioned to Offer Chaos-Weary Voters a Rest<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"article-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span of the political pool, a rival, Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), said the terrorist who bombed the 2013 Boston Marathon, and everyone else in America\u2019s prisons, should be allowed to vote, lest the \u201cchipping away\u201d of voting rights leave America \u201crunning down a slippery slope.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> Such running \u2014 to be fair to the faux independent (he caucuses with Senate Democrats; he seeks the Democratic presidential nomination) \u2014 does sound dangerous.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Another Biden rival, California senator Kamala Harris, utilized the sort of verbal fudge that many Democratic presidential candidates resort to when they are terrified that they might be neglecting to stroke some obscure erogenous zone on the party\u2019s progressive base.<\/span> She initially said Sanders\u2019s idea should be part of a \u201cconversation,\u201d which is basically what she (and Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren) said about \u201creparations\u201d for slavery.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>One or more<\/em><\/span> of Biden\u2019s rivals <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>have endorsed<\/em><\/span>, or at least <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>deemed conversation-worthy<\/em><\/span>, many ideas <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not uppermost in most voters\u2019 minds<\/em><\/span>: socialism, the Green New Deal, packing the Supreme Court, abolishing ICE and the Electoral College, free college, votes for 16-year-olds, \u201cMedicare for All\u201d (and private health insurance for no one), etc. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Biden\u2019s campaign slogan <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">should<\/span> be: \u201cHow about a president who doesn\u2019t make the current one look less loony than he is?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>The large progressive component of the Democratic nominating electorate, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>comfortable in its intellectual silo<\/em><\/span>, seems to have convinced itself of this: <em>Because Donald Trump <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">constantly makes sensible people wince<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span> Democratic nominee, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">even one from progressivism\u2019s wilder shores<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">can win<\/span><\/em>, so <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no nominee<\/em><\/span> should be (in President John Quincy Adams\u2019s 1825 words) \u201cpalsied by the\u00a0will\u00a0of our constituents.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> (Adams lost the 1828 election to the populist Andrew Jackson, whose portrait adorns the current populist president\u2019s Oval Office.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">..<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Biden, whose smile is Jack Nicholson\u2019s without the naughtiness, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is not angry<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">His sporadic attempts at seeming so are transparently, and engagingly, synthetic.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Neither<\/em><\/span>, however, are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most Americans angry<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Rather<\/em><\/span>, they are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>embarrassed and exhausted<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Biden has a talent for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>embarrassing himself<\/em><\/span>, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not the nation<\/em><\/span>, and he probably might seem to weary voters to be something devoutly desired: <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">restful<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yeah, restful: sorta like the sleep induced by an overdose of barbiturates.\u00a0 And how, pray tell, does an American President <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>embarrass himself without embarrassing the nation<\/em><\/span>?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>George Will is as out of touch with the tens of millions of American who, like us, pulled the handle for The Donald primarily because we&#8217;d cast a vote for a Clinton when&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a would cost<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Dr. Charles Blahous of the Mercatus Center reported that the new net cost will be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>between $32.6 trillion and $38.8 trillion in the first 10 years<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>adding<\/em><\/span> that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the first number<\/em><\/span> is &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a very low estimate<\/em><\/span>.&#8221;<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>By 2022<\/em><\/span>, the program would consume <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>11 to 13 percent of GDP<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p underline;\">One person is dead and six are injured in a shooting near a Baltimore church<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-6970119\/Seven-people-shot-near-Baltimore-church.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The shooting underline;\"><em>four mor<\/em><em>e<\/em><em> than were wounded<\/em><\/span> by the Poway synagogue shooter.\u00a0 But don&#8217;t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to give <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>this<\/em><\/span>\u00a0incident the same breathless coverage afforded the Poway shooting spree, as\u00a0<\/strong><strong>it was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Black-on-Black crime<\/em><\/span>; which means repetitive reporting <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>might<\/em><\/span> lead <em>someone<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>somewhere<\/em><\/span> to focus on the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">real root<\/span><\/em> of the problem: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>purposefully counterproductive Progressive policies<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>More importantly, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/04\/baltimore-suffers-after-decades-of-mismanagement\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=NR%20Daily%20Monday%20through%20Friday%202019-04-30&amp;utm_term=NRDaily-Smart\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Marta Mossburg recently recorded at NRO<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>, this shooting was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>just another Sunday in Baltimore<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Crime is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so pervasive<\/em><\/span> today that Johns Hopkins University, the city\u2019s largest private-sector employer, won approval this year from the state legislature <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to create its own armed police force to protect students, faculty, and its medical campus<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">The rate of violent crime has been terrible for years and last year Baltimore\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2018\/09\/25\/baltimore-homicide-murder-rate-fbi-statistics-death-crime-killings\/1426739002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">topped<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the FBI\u2019s homicide list at a time when violent crime has been decreasing nationally.<\/span> Security company ADT just ranked Baltimore\u2019s residents the \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/baltimore.cbslocal.com\/2019\/04\/04\/baltimore-has-the-most-robberies-in-america-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most robbed<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u201d in the United States.<span style=\"color: #008080;\"> This, four years after former mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, a Democrat like every Baltimore mayor since 1967, told residents they needed to give looters \u201cspace\u201d to \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/storyline\/baltimore-unrest\/mayor-stephanie-rawlings-blake-under-fire-giving-space-destroy-baltimore-n349656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">destroy<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u201d during riots following the death of\u00a0Freddie Gray, a black man who died in police custody in 2015, and earlier told residents who complained about spiking crime during her tenure that they were \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/baltimorebrew.com\/2014\/02\/10\/mayor-says-citizens-can-be-part-of-the-solution-or-part-of-the-problem-in-curbing-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">part of the problem<\/a><\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/span> (She decided not to run for a second term, by the way.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>&#8230;<span style=\"color: #008080;\">No wonder <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>so many people are voting with their feet<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>leaving<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Last year\u2019s census figures showed that, <em>of the 30 largest cities in the United States<\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only Baltimore and Detroit lost population<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">Baltimore had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>shrunk<\/em><\/span> to a population <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not seen for 100 years<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> This year\u2019s census figures show another\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/baltimore-sees-biggest-population-loss-in-single-year-since-2001-census-estimates-show\/2019\/04\/21\/f601f560-62b9-11e9-9ff2-abc984dc9eec_story.html?utm_term=.0c198bab2279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">population decline<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0of 1.2 percent to just over 600,000 residents and no signs of stopping.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lest we appear focused on seeking scapegoats from amongst the city&#8217;s darker denizens as the source of the problem, Martin O&#8217;Malley, who turned 8 years of singularly uninspired leadership as Baltimore&#8217;s mayor into two terms as Maryland&#8217;s budget-busting governor&#8230;along with a brief and forgettable 15 minutes of fame on the national stage&#8230;was as white and lacking in rhythm as a honky could be.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inquiring minds might wonder, what <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was<\/em><\/span>\u00a0Marty&#8217;s claim to fame&#8230;besides rivaling Joe Biden, John Kerry and AOC for the honorific &#8220;Dumbest Dimocrat <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>EVER<\/em><\/span>&#8220;?\u00a0 Answer: h<\/strong><strong>e campaigned for mayor on promises to improve student performance <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span> curtail violent crime, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>both<\/em><\/span> of which he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>accomplished<\/em><\/span>&#8230;by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>lowering the passing grade<\/em><\/span> on public school tests from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>60<\/em><\/span> to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">50<\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>reclassifying<\/em><\/span> a number of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>violent<\/em> <\/span>crimes as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>non-violent<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If, as Einstein is purported to have proffered, the\u00a0<b>definition of insanity<\/b>\u00a0is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, the citizens of Baltimore are, quite literally, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>utterly out of their minds<\/em><\/span>!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which is why we frequent the Charmless City only six times a year: to feed and minister
