Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D, N.Y.) is set to bartend again for a day to advocate for policies that led to one of her former employers shutting down its business<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> The freshman congresswoman will return to her district in New York City this Friday to \u201cpour a few pints\u201d and push for the federal Raise the Wage Act while showing support for \u201cabolishing below-minimum wage\u201d for tipped workers in the state, the New York Daily News reports<\/span><\/strong>…<\/p>\n

Charles Milite, co-founder of the Coffee Shop, where Ocasio-Cortez previously worked, said that the increased minimum wage to $15 per hour for businesses with more than 11 employees led him and his partners to reevaluate their business and shut it down. \u201cI know it doesn\u2019t sound like much<\/em><\/span>\u2014$2 an hour<\/em><\/span>,\u201d Milite told Crains New York Business in April. \u201cBut when you multiply it<\/em><\/span> by 40 hours<\/em><\/span>, by 130 people<\/em><\/span>, it becomes a big number<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> It was going to increase our monthly<\/em><\/span> payroll $46,000<\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/strong><\/span>…<\/p>\n
