{"id":70708,"date":"2019-06-18T19:29:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T23:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=70708"},"modified":"2019-06-18T19:29:22","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T23:29:22","slug":"the-daily-gouge-archive-monday-june-17th-fathers-day-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=70708","title":{"rendered":"The Daily Gouge Archive, Monday, June 17th, Father&#8217;s Day 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s June 17th, 2019&#8230;and here&#8217;s a special Father&#8217;s Day edition of The Daily Gouge!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On the occasion of the date set aside each year to honor our nation&#8217;s fathers, consider the following statistics which should have been sobering when they were assembled almost a decade ago:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>43% of US children live without their father.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>90% of homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>71% of pregnant teenagers lack a father.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>85% of children who exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>90% of adolescent repeat arsonists live with only their mother.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>71% of high school dropouts come from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>75% of adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>70% of juveniles in state operated institutions have no father.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>85% of youths in prisons grew up in a fatherless home.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;\"><strong>Fatherless boys and girls are: twice as likely to drop out of high school; twice as likely to end up in jail; four times more likely to need help for emotional or behavioral problems.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Does anyone think the odds for fatherless children have <em>improved<\/em> over the intervening years?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1otTZq6UzLM?start=192\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, the single greatest determinant for a child experiencing poverty in America remains living with a single mother.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: loving, involved fathers&#8230;who are also committed husbands&#8230;.are, <em>have been<\/em> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>always will be<\/em><\/span> an essential ingredient to the successful development of a child.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And while history and the present-day are replete with examples of individuals overcoming adversity in their youth, including the premature death of or abandonment by a parent or parents, God based the Scriptural family structure on the marriage of one biological female and one biological male, a union which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ephesians+5%3A22-32&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">symbolizes Christ&#8217;s relationship with His church<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We were blessed to have both a father <em>and father-in-law<\/em> about whom we cannot recall a single negative memory.\u00a0 Sure, neither of them were perfect, but they were as close to perfection in our eyes as human frailty allowed; and we were truly blessed and proud to have had both of them in our life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We know everyone wasn&#8217;t as fortunate as we, and we hope and pray those with less-than-perfect fathers who have passed can forgive their failings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>More importantly, we&#8217;ve always been thankful when our dad died, there was nothing left unsaid between us: no apologies unoffered, no regrets unexpressed.\u00a0 For those whose fathers are still alive, and, for whatever reason, there exists between you some separation, we offer the last stanza of a song which always makes us misty-eyed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/agC7SoihH-o?start=230&amp;end=305&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block;
