Sean Connery fled Hurricane Dorian, says he’s ‘lucky’ his Bahamas mansion escaped damage<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

Except<\/em><\/span> he didn’t<\/em><\/span>\u00a0flee; Connery remained in his home and rode out the storm.\u00a0 And<\/em> except<\/em><\/span> Dorian’s<\/strong>\u00a0highest sustained wind speeds were clocked at 185 mph<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 Though we found one source<\/em>, just one<\/em><\/span>…an article in the highly-suspect WaPo<\/em><\/a><\/span>…which mentioned gusts MAY<\/em><\/span> have approached<\/em> 220 mph<\/em><\/span>, no where<\/em><\/span> could we find any reference<\/em> whatsoever<\/em><\/span> to 225 mph<\/em><\/span> winds anywhere else<\/em><\/span> than the FOX<\/em> story and the Sun article<\/em><\/a><\/span>\u00a0it parroted…which, by the way, never mentions<\/em><\/span> Connery fleeing his home.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Dan Rather, Brian Williams, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden would say, other than that<\/span><\/em>, the story was accurate<\/em><\/span>!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Buttigieg has managed to make an impression<\/em> on the impressionable<\/em><\/span> by insisting that God<\/em><\/span> must surely regard air pollution as, in the idiotic idiom of the time, \u201cmessed up<\/em><\/span>.\u201d The sin of\u00a0presumption<\/em><\/span>\u00a0(not to mention deliberately misstating Scripture<\/span>!<\/em>)<\/span>\u00a0apparently has been omitted from Mayor Pete\u2019s negligent Episcopalian Sunday school curriculum.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It is remarkable how far<\/em><\/span> this meretricious kind of thing goes with the mush-brained partisans who dominate our political discourse<\/em><\/span> in\u00a0anno Domini<\/em>\u00a02019<\/em><\/span>. Christian conservatives were writing about the moral relevance of environmental attitudes as early as the 1930s<\/em><\/span>: T. S. Eliot, noting contemporary concerns about soil erosion and unwelcome changes in agricultural practice, argued that \u201ca wrong attitude towards nature implies, somewhere, a wrong attitude towards God.\u201d<\/span> Papal encyclicals and apostolic letters have addressed related subjects. Volumes<\/em><\/span> have been written on them.<\/span> To this<\/em><\/span>, Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg of Harvard and Pembroke College, Oxford, adds<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Dude<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…<\/span>You can get a good sense of the intellectual vacuity (and religious sterility, if you\u2019re interested in that) of this mode of politics from, e.g.,<\/span>\u00a0Kirsten Powers\u2019s banal and illiterate conversation with Buttigieg<\/a><\/em><\/span>, written up for general amusement in\u00a0USA Today<\/em>.<\/span> (You will not<\/em><\/span> be surprised to read that Mayor Pete has \u201cstarted a crucial conversation<\/em><\/span>,\u201d and has proceeded from clich\u00e9 to clich\u00e9.) Powers, when she is not half-chiding her fellow Christian for showing what she considers excessive grace to people who have naughty political ideas<\/em><\/span> (one wonders what she would consider\u00a0insufficient<\/em>\u00a0grace), hits the reader with a few insights that are not exactly blistering in their originality<\/em><\/span>: Jesus<\/em><\/span>, she says, never mentioned abortion<\/em><\/span> (but then, neither does the Constitution<\/em><\/span>), while He did<\/em><\/span> speak a great deal<\/em><\/span> about looking after the poor<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Powers writes this as though Christianity had been planted in a cultural vacuum and as though \u201cfeed my sheep\u201d were synonymous with \u201cvote for the party of the welfare state no matter what other horrifying business may be on their agenda<\/em><\/span>\u201d \u2014 and as though these kinds of issues had not<\/span> been the subject of\u00a0centuries<\/span>\u00a0of Christian inquiry<\/em>. The New Testament is silent on the questions of, among other things<\/em>, child pornography and cannibalism<\/em><\/span>, but Christians are not<\/span> expected to maintain a morally indifferent attitude toward these<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Still less would Christians be expected to maintain such indifference in the face of the Supreme Court\u2019s happening upon a right to cannibalism lurking in some unexplored constitutional penumbra and the subsequent establishment of a franchised chain of coast-to-coast cannibalism outlets enjoying public subsidies<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…<\/span>In any event, I do hope<\/em><\/span> the divine-right-to-abortion crowd<\/em><\/span> will forgive<\/em><\/span> their co-religionists if we roll our eyes a little while they pretend for five minutes to care what the pope thinks about\u00a0x<\/em>,\u00a0y<\/em>, or\u00a0z,\u00a0but only when it serves partisan Democratic interests to do so<\/span><\/em>, or<\/em><\/span> when they pronounce with Falwellian certitude that Jesus would have supported a cap-and-trade regime or federal subsidies for sex-change operations, or that some notion of Bible-based morality renders tax reform impossible<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> We could all do with fewer lectures on \u201cgrace\u201d from the people who would dispatch federal bayonets to force septuagenarian nuns to underwrite contraception coverage in order to press a petty political advantage for no purpose other than precedent and humiliation<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I will not presume to speak on behalf of the Almighty \u2014 who has not, as a matter of fact, requested my opinion on the matter \u2014 but even taking into account that the Lord works in mysterious ways and that He seems to have a bizarre and occasionally cruel sense of humor, it is difficult to imagine an omnipotence worth having that is constrained to express itself through the instrument of Pete Buttigieg, who looked at creation and saw that it was<\/span><\/em>…messed up<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don\u2019t fail me now.\u201d The Blues Brothers<\/em><\/span> had a mission from God, too<\/em><\/span> \u2014 and a much more developed systematic theology than the one clouding the mind of the esteemed gentleman from South Bend, Ind<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>“<\/p>\n

Au contraire, mon petit Pete: but to borrow a phrase from Joshua<\/em><\/span><\/a>, “if it seems evil to you<\/em><\/span> to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves<\/em><\/span> this day whom you<\/em><\/span> will serve…But as for<\/em> me<\/em><\/span> and my house<\/em><\/span>, we<\/em><\/span> will serve the LORD<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 And we for one<\/span><\/em>\u00a0don’t mind going on the record as not giving a fig<\/em><\/span> for your<\/em> deliberate misinterpretation of Scripture<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you didn’t read Hickel’s pro-junk-science-of-anthropogenic-global-warming polemic, you really should, as it:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Acknowledges the insurmountable mining\/manufacturing problems the Green New Deal and renewables present.<\/strong><\/div>\n
2. Condemns fossil fuels without any justification or reason.<\/strong><\/div>\n
3. Dismisses nuclear as taking too much time to construct while failing to note the only reason they do is unnecessary environmental red tape and frivolous lawsuits.<\/strong><\/div>\n
4. Concludes the only answer is using less energy and mandating longer-lifespans for manufactured goods.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In other words, Hickel supports an utterly unworkable solution to a problem which doesn’t exist…while advocating for an absolutely impractical alternative.\u00a0 Why not just suggest the world generate energy from…<\/strong><\/p>\n
