width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Feminist Naomi Wolf\u2019s new book has been canceled by its U.S. publisher after questions of accuracy were raised in\u00a0Great Britain.<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>(Months ago!)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Wolf\u2019s dispute with\u00a0Houghton Mifflin\u00a0arose after the book\u00a0\u201cOutrages: Sex, Censorship and the Criminalization of Love\u201d was published in the U.K. <em>and a BBC interviewer in May <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">challenged her research<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>see video above.<\/em>)<\/span><em> on sodomy executions in Victorian Britain<\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>according to reports<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>What does the writer <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mean<\/span>, &#8220;according to reports&#8221;; as the Tucker segment above proves, there&#8217;s irrefutable\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">video evidence<\/span> of it!<\/em>)<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">The book delves <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">inaccurately<\/span> delves!<\/em>)<\/span> into the persecution of homosexuality during that era.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Wolf has <em>acknowledged <\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span><em> errors<\/em> in the book\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>but contended they were fixable<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>The AP\u00a0reported that publishers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rarely fact-check books<\/em><\/span>, citing time and expense.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Wolf&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has had her scholarship challenged before<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">In &#8220;The Beauty Myth,&#8221; she wrote that anorexia caused the deaths of 150,000 women a year, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a number widely regarded as inflated<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Again, not simply &#8220;inflated&#8221;, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>GROSSLY<\/em><\/span> inflated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>W<\/strong><strong>hich, given the season&#8230;as well as the term &#8220;gross&#8221;&#8230;got us thinking about Hilly and Willy and Barry and Biden&#8230;Clapper and Comey and Kerry and Brennan&#8230;along with every other hypocritical Progressive (ad nauseam, ad infinitum) who&#8217;s ever made a dishonest buck foisting a fiction-filled fable upon a clueless public.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Far be it from the <em>AP<\/em> to get a story right, but Hells bells, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>forget<\/em><\/span> the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>time and expense<\/em><\/span>; had <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>they<\/em><\/span> been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>fact-checked<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>none<\/em><\/span> of the aforementioned <em>works of fiction<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>would ever have been published<\/em><\/span>!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, the <em>WSJ<\/em>&#8216;s Kim Strassel compels us to&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/behold-the-lord-high-impeacher-11571955292\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #333399; Elise Stefanik was informed this week by Republican House Intelligence Committee staffers of a new diktat from Chairman Adam Schiff. <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>It made the New York Republican\u2019s jaw drop.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Democrats had informed Republicans that, from here on out, the committee would produce a single, printed transcript of every interview it conducted as part of its impeachment inquiry.<\/span> Only members of the three committees involved in the purported inquiry would be allowed to view that printout, and only in the presence of a Democratic staffer. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ms. Stefanik\u2014an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>elected member of Congress<\/em><\/span> who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sits on the Intelligence Committee<\/em><\/span>\u2014will be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>babysat<\/em><\/span> while reading <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>by an unelected employee of the Democrats<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>It&#8217;s not like she&#8217;s reading the original Steele Dossier!<\/em>)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s outrageous, and it\u2019s an abuse of power,\u201d Ms. Stefanik said in an interview. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cEvery constituent across this country deserves to have their members have access to all the facts.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Welcome to impeachment, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Schiff-style<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Democrats keep their witnesses locked behind secure doors, then flood the press with carefully sculpted leaks and accusations, driving the Trump-corruption narrative<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>With the willing participation of a pliant Press!<\/em>)<\/span> And so the party goes, galloping toward an impeachment vote that would overturn the will of the American voters\u2014<em>on a case <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">built in secret<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Conservative commentators keep noting that Mrs. Pelosi\u2019s refusal to hold a vote on the House floor to authorize an official impeachment inquiry helps her caucus\u2019s vulnerable members evade accountability.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>But there\u2019s a more practical and uglier reason for Democrats to skip the formalities<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Normally<\/em><\/span> an authorization vote would be followed by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>official rules<\/em><\/span> on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>how<\/em><\/span> the inquiry would proceed.<\/span> Under today\u2019s process, Mr. Schiff gets to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>make up<\/em><\/span> the rules <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>as he goes along<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Behold the Lord High Impeacher<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Democrats view <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>control over the narrative<\/em><\/span> as <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">essential<\/span><\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>having learned<\/em><\/span> from their Russia-collusion escapade <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the perils of transparency<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>banked<\/em><\/span> on special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation proving impeachment fodder, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>but got truth-bombed<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Their subsequent open hearings on the subject\u2014featuring Michael Cohen, Mr. Mueller and Corey Lewandowski \u2014<em>were, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for the Democrats<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">embarrassing spectacles<\/span>, at which <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Republicans punched gaping holes in their story line<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Mr. Schiff is making <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>sure<\/em><\/span> that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doesn\u2019t happen again<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>Mr. Schiff has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>intimated<\/em><\/span> he will eventually make <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some things<\/em><\/span> public. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But Democrats\u2019 barring of Republicans and the White House from this \u201cfact finding\u201d stage <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ensures what is presented later<\/em><\/span> will be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a one-sided narrative<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> How could <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>any senator<\/em><\/span> vote to convict <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>based on such a rigged proceeding<\/em><\/span>?<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/3ej6gp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-74145\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/3ej6gp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"271\" stool.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next up, writing at\u00a0<em>NRO<\/em>, Matthew Continetti records how short the journey was for Chicago&#8217;s new mayor as she traveled&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<header class=\"article-header article-header--full\" data-component=\"articleHeader\">\n<div class=\"article-header__inner\">\n<h1 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/10\/from-woke-to-broke\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">From Woke to Broke<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/10\/from-woke-to-broke\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"article-header__subtitle\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; Period,&#8217; says Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>She\u2019s talking about the teachers\u2019 strike that has paralyzed her city\u2019s public schools \u2014 enrollment 360,000 \u2014 for the past week. The public employee union is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>demanding more<\/em><\/span>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more money for salaries<\/em><\/span> (only eight states pay teachers more than Illinois), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more support staff<\/em><\/span>(Illinois ranks first in spending on administrators), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more teachers per student<\/em><\/span>. <\/strong><\/span>Their cause has attracted national attention.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Elizabeth Warren<\/em><\/span> joined the picket line.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Which is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ironic<\/em><\/span>. Lightfoot is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> some <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>stingy Republican<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Nor<\/em><\/span> is she a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>centrist Democrat<\/em><\/span> like her predecessor Rahm Emanuel.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>She\u2019s as progressive as you can get<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But she <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>now<\/em><\/span> finds herself <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>in the same position as many of her political brethre<\/em><\/span>n: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>facing criticism for failing to reconcile the contradictions in the left\u2019s agenda<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Lightfoot has discovered that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>there is no limit to the appetite of the constituencies generated by government spending<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> She <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has learned<\/em><\/span> that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>special interests bargaining for higher benefits also desire policies that make such benefits unattainable<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\"><em>I hope she\u2019s taking notes<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span>..&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is the very embodiment of what <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no one<\/em><\/span> has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ever said better<\/em><\/span> than Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady, a woman of truly prodigious wisdom and intellect, as well as her predecessor, Winston Churchill, one of our personal heroes, flawed though he was:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Winston-Churchill-and-Margaret-Thatcher-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-74146\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Winston-Churchill-and-Margaret-Thatcher-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Winston-Churchill-and-Margaret-Thatcher-2.jpg 400w, \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>And if you wondered why the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/10\/27\/politics\/john-conyers-michigan-representative-dies\/index.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>passing of John Conyers<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span> was not greeted with the same adulation as the equally-crooked Elijah Cummings, this explains it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe corruption didn&#8217;t prevent Rashida Tlaib from singing his praises:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/tlaib.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-74149\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/tlaib.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/tlaib.png 450w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/tlaib-300x171.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>One thing can at least be said of contemporary Progressives: they recognize the principle purportedly pronounced by another of our heroes, Benjamin Franklin:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/franklin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-74150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/franklin.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"187\"
