It’s Monday, November 18th, 2019…but before we begin, Walt Meisen turned us onto the latest example of the insanity increasingly endemic in the politically-correct People’s Republic of Portlandia:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Portland Bans Urinals to Respect \u2018Shared Values,\u2019 Charges Taxpayers $200M<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h1>\n

In the interest of full disclosure (how we HATE inaccurate<\/em>, overhyped<\/em><\/span> headlines!!!), Portland has neither banned urinals nor spent $200,ooo,ooo of its taxpayers’ funds removing them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rather, the city spent $195M renovating a downtown city office building, the details of which are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“…the hipster town sent out an email to city employees last February regarding the remodeled public Portland Building:<\/p>\n

We will continue to have gender-specific (male and female) multi-stall restrooms that are readily available to any employee that prefers to use one.<\/span> But, there will be no urinals in any restroom in the building<\/span>. This will give us the flexibility we need for any future changes in signage.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Therefore, urinals are banned<\/em><\/span>, even in the Men\u2019s room<\/em><\/span>. (Paris<\/em><\/span> has theopposite<\/span>\u00a0idea \u2014 see\u00a0here<\/a><\/span><\/em>.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It shouldn\u2019t be so<\/em><\/span>, but we a<\/em>ll know it\u2019s true<\/em><\/span>: Prepare to have a whoooole lot more urine<\/span> on the toilet seats<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…As\u00a0noted<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>by talk show host Lars Larson:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, in a place constantly lecturing us about protecting the environment<\/span> (you know, plastic straws etc) this will waste a tremendous amount of water\u2028<\/span>.\u00a0 I checked and most urinals take as little as a pint of water per flush (1\/8 gallon).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 Even \u201cmodern\u201d toilets flush with more than a gallon of water.<\/span>\u00a0 Some \u201cno flush\u201d urinals use no water at all<\/span>. Multiply this<\/span> by hundreds of thousands of flushes a year<\/span>.<\/span> Figure out how this<\/span> makes sense.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here\u2019s more on the Portland Building: As\u00a0reported<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0by KGW 8, every floor will have at least one any-gender restroom.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 1st, 34th, and 15th floors will sport multi-stall bathrooms so men and women can take dumps together<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

To borrow from James Louis Petigru’s observation upon South Carolina’s 1860 secession, Portland is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum…though it is far closer to the latter than the former, as the operation of a republic is dependent upon the rule of law.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
