First up, a story within a story, as the WSJ<\/em> informs us…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Navy Secretary Richard Spencer Resigns Amid Controversy Over Navy SEAL<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n

Defense Secretary Mark Esper asked for Spencer\u2019s resignation<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

“Mr. Spencer said he had attempted to make a deal with the White House<\/em><\/span> in which President Trump would allow the Navy to conduct an internal Navy review of Chief Gallagher<\/em><\/span><\/a>, but that he would then be allowed to retire with his Trident pin, the revered symbol of his membership in the elite commando force.<\/span><\/strong> But Mr. Esper only learned of these efforts after the fact<\/em><\/span>, and thus lost confidence in Mr. Spencer<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply troubled by this conduct shown by a senior DOD official.\u201d Mr. Esper said in a statement.<\/span> \u201cUnfortunately, as a result I have determined that Secretary Spencer no longer has my confidence to continue in his position<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>…”<\/p>\n

What drew our attention wasn’t<\/em><\/span> Chief Gallagher’s guilt or innocence, or<\/em><\/span> the story itself; rather it was the import of one paragraph<\/em><\/span> contained in it<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Mr. Spencer, a former Marine, said that he couldn\u2019t \u201cin good conscience obey an order that I believe violates the sacred oath I took in the presence of my family, my flag and my faith to support and defend the Constitution of the United States<\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/strong><\/span>“<\/p>\n

u<\/em>?!?\u00a0 Last time we checked, not only is Trump several pay grades above<\/em><\/span> Spencer in the chain of command, but as President<\/em><\/span> possesses the power to pardon anyone<\/em><\/span> convicted of federal crimes, including<\/em><\/span> the subject of a court-martial.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thus, when given a lawful<\/em><\/span> order by his COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, regardless of what his “conscience” dictated…or what he “believed”…or what some angel on his shoulder whispered in his ear…Mr. Spencer’s DUTY and OATH OF OFFICE dictated<\/em><\/span> he support and defend the Constitution of the United States by u<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This reminds us of the idiocy displayed by Gordon Sondland in his testimony during the Ukraine Kangaroo Kourt:<\/strong><\/p>\n
