“I can\u2019t quite<\/em><\/span> spike the football yet<\/em><\/span>; I wish<\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Brett Baier and Gregg Re of Fox News had been able to use named sources<\/em><\/span>,<\/a>\u00a0and<\/em><\/span> that these sources could have at least hinted<\/em><\/span> at anything not yet publicly known about the labs in Wuhan that made them suspect that SARS-CoV-2 started from an accidental release.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

But<\/em><\/span> you can feel the ground shifting underneath your feet<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There is increasing confidence that COVID-19 likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory<\/span>, though not<\/span> as a bioweapon<\/em>\u00a0(although<\/span>, it should be noted, most EVERY<\/span> ChiCom research program is dual purpose<\/span><\/em>)<\/span>\u00a0but as part of China\u2019s effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States<\/span>,\u00a0multiple sources<\/span> who have been briefed on the details<\/span> of early actions by China\u2019s government and seen relevant materials<\/span> tell Fox News.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This may be the \u201ccostliest government coverup of all time,\u201d one of the sources said.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The sources\u00a0believe\u00a0the initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, and that \u201cpatient zero\u201d worked at the laboratory<\/span>, then<\/span> went into the population in Wuhan.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cincreasing confidence\u201d comes from classified and open-source documents and evidence<\/span>, the sources said.<\/span> Fox\u00a0News has requested to see the evidence directly.\u00a0Sources emphasized \u2014 as is often the case with intelligence \u2014 that it\u2019s not definitive<\/span> and should <\/span>not be characterized as such<\/span>.<\/span> Some<\/span> inside the administration and the intelligence and epidemiological communities are more skeptical,<\/span> and the investigation is continuing<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

What all of the sources agree about<\/span> is the extensive cover-up of data and information about COVID-19\u00a0launched by the Chinese government<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Documents detail early efforts by doctors at the lab and early efforts at containment<\/span>. The Wuhan wet market initially identified<\/span> as a possible point of origin never sold bats<\/span>, and the sources tell Fox News that blaming the wet market was an effort by China to deflect blame from the laboratory<\/span>, along with the country\u2019s propaganda efforts targeting the U.S<\/span>. and Italy…<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

China \u201c100 percent\u201d suppressed data and changed data<\/span>, the sources tell Fox News. Samples were destroyed,\u00a0contaminated areas scrubbed, some early reports erased, and academic articles stifled<\/span>.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If someday<\/em><\/span> there is an outbreak of a<\/em> new, strange, and deadly virus<\/em><\/span> in the Cumberland area of northwest Atlanta<\/em><\/span>, people will understandably wonder<\/em><\/span> if the virus first manifesting there had anything to do with the fact that the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is nearby<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> If someday<\/em><\/span> there is an outbreak of a new, strange, and deadly virus<\/em><\/span> in Frederick, Md<\/em><\/span>., people will understandably wonder<\/em><\/span> if the outbreak has anything to do with the nearby U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And when<\/em><\/span> there is an outbreak of a<\/em> novel coronavirus that originated in bats in Wuhan, China<\/em><\/span>, people understandably start to wonder<\/em><\/span> if it has anything to do with the two laboratories in the city that were doing research on novel coronaviruses in bats<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A few people sometimes ask whether it really matters<\/em><\/span> whether this virus originated from someone being less careful than they needed to be with a bat in a laboratory or biological material from the bats. I assume<\/em><\/span> these are good faith questions, and not some sort of effort to preserve the good name of the Chinese government<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Indeed, to the doctors trying to save lives right now, and to those suffering the effects of SARS-CoV-2 right now, the scenario that brought the virus into humans doesn\u2019t matter that much<\/em><\/span>, at least at this moment<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

But if we want to ensure<\/em><\/span> nothing like this happens again<\/em><\/span>, we need to know how this virus first got into humans<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The irony is that\u00a0every<\/em>\u00a0possible transmission path<\/em><\/span> paints the Chinese government as incredibly reckless and unconcerned about the risk to human life<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>…”<\/p>\n
