text-decoration: underline;\">Corrections Officers of Color Claim They Were Prohibited from Guarding Derek Chauvin<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/hickey2-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82319\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/hickey2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"462\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/hickey2-1.jpg 462w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/hickey2-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>We know <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>just<\/em><em> who<\/em><\/span> these victims of perceived institutional racism, these Corrections Officers of Color, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>need to call<\/em><\/span>\u00a0to seek redress of their grievances: any of the Progressives pictured above.\u00a0 <em>Pattern<\/em>&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>WHAT<\/em><\/span> pattern?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, yet another <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>supposed<\/em><\/span> hate crime has been revealed as not only a hoax, but a complete and utter waste of taxpayer-funded time, effort and resources, as the, at the behest of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4S5OH2vhRXs\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the only &#8220;Black&#8221; NASCAR driver<\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span>&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fbi-says-noose-found-in-bubba-wallaces-garage-wasnt-a-hate-crime-11592950651?mod=djemalertNEWS\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">FBI Says Noose Found in Bubba Wallace\u2019s Garage Wasn\u2019t a Hate Crime<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bubba.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82377\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bubba.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bubba.png 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bubba-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In fact, there was absolutely no evidence of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>any<\/em><\/span> &#8220;crime&#8221; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>at all<\/em><\/span>, as the &#8220;noose&#8221; in question <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>wasn&#8217;t actually a noose<\/em><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u201cAlthough <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the noose<\/em><\/span> is now <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nobody could have known<\/em><\/span> Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>last week<\/em><\/span>,\u201d they said in a joint statement. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">It is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unclear why<\/span><\/em> a noose had been in the garage <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for so long<\/em><\/span>. <\/span>Nascar, in a statement, referred to it as a \u201cgarage door pull rope <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>fashioned<\/em><\/span> like a noose.\u201d<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Though we&#8217;re not a detective by training, we&#8217;re gonna go out on a limb here and say <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that NASCAR statement<\/em><\/span> makes it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>abundantly clear<\/em><\/span> why the &#8220;garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose&#8221;&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r7g.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82397\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r7g.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r7g.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r7g-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r9w.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82398\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r9w.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r9w.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/464r9w-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;had been in the garage since 2019: to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pull down the friggin&#8217; garage door<\/em><\/span>!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but one would have to be a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>complete idiot<\/em><\/span>&#8230;or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pursuing a partisan political agenda<\/em><\/span>&#8230;not to recognize the purpose of a rope <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>LOOP<\/em><\/span> attached to a roll-up garage door&#8230;which has been in place <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>for months<\/em><\/span>, if not <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>years<\/em><\/span>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now for our random thoughts on the passing scene: one of the primary reasons we detest Barack Obama, his Socialist politics aside, was the purposeful use of his position to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>divide<\/em><\/span> rather than <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unite<\/em><\/span> America, case in point being his refusal to dispel the lies behind the Michael Brown\u00a0<em>Hands Up\/Don&#8217;t Shoot<\/em> fable, a MYTH\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">his own<\/span> DOJ and equally-detestable racist Attorney General <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">disproved<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In similar fashion, while the MSM described George Zimmerman as a &#8220;White Hispanic&#8221;, a radically new and previously non-existent racial classification created solely for the occasion, the &#8220;White Black&#8221; Barack incendiarily suggested if <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he<\/em><\/span> had a son, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he&#8217;d look like Trayvon Martin<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth be told, The Great Divider <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>deliberately misrepresented<\/em><\/span> these two Black males <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>solely<\/em> <em>because the color of their skin served his racially-charged agenda<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 Their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>character<\/em><\/span>\u00a0was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>immaterial<\/em><\/span>; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only<\/em> <em>their level of melanin mattered<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Let&#8217;s be clear<\/span><\/em>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>like<\/em><\/span> George Floyd <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span> Rayshard Brooks, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">neither<\/span><\/em> Michael Brown <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">nor<\/span><\/em> Trayvon Martin <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">deserved<\/span> <\/em>to die.\u00a0 But also like Floyd and Brooks, neither Brown nor Martin were the &#8220;gentle giant&#8221; or &#8220;innocent adolescent&#8221; the MSM so desperately made them out to be.\u00a0 Yet, for personal, partisan political gain, The Obamao was willing to inflict racial divisiveness upon the nation and, for all tense and purposes, declare open season on its law enforcement officers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We recently featured an amazing bit of analysis from <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@gavrilodavid\/why-derek-chauvin-may-get-off-his-murder-charge-2e2ad8d0911\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Medium.com written by Gavrilo David<\/em><\/span><\/a>, in which the author offers a compelling case Derek Chauvin and his fellow officers may well have been following Minneapolis Police Department guidelines in their treatment of George Floyd <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to the letter<\/em><\/span>, right down to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and including<\/em><\/span> Chauvin placing his knee on Floyd&#8217;s neck.\u00a0 Clink on the link above, read the article and draw your own conclusions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For the record, Mr. David <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doesn&#8217;t say<\/em><\/span> the officers&#8217; actions <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>were right<\/em><\/span>; in fact, he states <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>categorically<\/em><\/span> they were &#8220;absolutely wrong&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Again, for the record, based on Mr. David&#8217;s evidence, we&#8217;re at least <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>open<\/em><\/span> to the politically-correct heresy those involved in George Floyd&#8217;s arrest may have done nothing worthy of termination, let alone arrest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>For if Mr. David&#8217;s analyses and facts are correct, none of them will likely be convicted, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>especially<\/em><\/span> of murder.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The same holds true of Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan, the two Atlanta officers charged in the shooting of Rayshard Brooks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Point is, even if <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everything<\/em><\/span> Gavrilo David writes <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is TRUE<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span> offered into evidence at trial, as G. Trevor, Mr. Meisen and a number of other readers have noted, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>TRUTH NO LONGER MATTERS<\/em><\/span>!!!\u00a0 The Mob <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>cares not<\/em><\/span> what&#8217;s true and what isn&#8217;t, what makes sense and what&#8217;s insane; they care <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only about<\/em> <em>power<\/em><\/span>&#8230;and the next convenient excuse to loot, burn and kill&#8230;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all without fear of punishment or retribution<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>REALLY<\/em><\/span> think Minnesota AG Keith Ellison and Fulton County, GA District Attorney Paul Howard don&#8217;t realize they haven&#8217;t a snowflakes chance in Hell of winning their cases in court?!?\u00a0 Of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>course not<\/em><\/span>!\u00a0 Like Barack Hussein Obama, they&#8217;ve simply weighed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>their political futures<\/em><\/span> against <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the harm the inevitable riots will inflict upon the country<\/em><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>guess whose interests prevailed<\/em><\/span>?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>SPOILER ALERT<\/em><\/span>: There&#8217;s no &#8220;I&#8221; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;in the septic system, we called a remediation company authorized by our insurance company to repair the damage.\u00a0 The response team consisted of three young Black males likely in their late teens or early twenties.\u00a0 We introduced ourselves, shook their hands and offered them their choice of a refreshing beverage&#8230;the same effort made upon the arrival of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>any<\/em><\/span> repair or maintenance team at our home.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Upon their departure, we again shook their hand and asked if anyone wanted coffee in the morning upon their return to resume their restoration efforts.\u00a0 Again, the same respect and courtesy we offer anyone repairing or performing maintenance on our home, including the two White technicians who recently repaired our downstairs HVAC system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All three were courteous and professional, the veritable <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>polar opposites<\/em><\/span> of those shown below looting and damaging the Oakland, CA Mercedes-Benz dealership:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KyiPefY9GBQ\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong> At the risk of beating a dead P.C. horse, allow us to emphasize, in the best tradition of MLK, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we<\/em><\/span> judged the restoration team <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">on their <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">character<\/span><\/em>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>NOT<\/em><\/span> their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>skin color<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As for the looters shown above, if only local police&#8230;as well as other law enforcement agencies across the country&#8230;had met these criminals with the fortitude expressed by Louisiana&#8217;s Sheriff Clay Higgins in this February 2016 video forwarded by Fielding Cocke&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KjtGkrxnKA8\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; text-decoration: underline;\">If we think the 2016 playbook is going to win the 2020 game, Joe Biden will make it to the Oval Office without ever having to leave his basement<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #003300;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/image000000-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82388\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/image000000-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/image000000-1.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/image000000-1-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The point being that the president is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> a conservative, in the sense either of political ideology or temperament. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span> conservative sensibilities and has mastered some right-wing tropes.<\/span> But he\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> a conservative thinker wedded to a conservative policy agenda. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">That\u2019s hardly a revelation.<\/span> He\u2019s not wired to think in those terms. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> a progressive, either.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>What <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is<\/em><\/span> he, then? <span style=\"color: #003300;\">Does it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>matter<\/em><\/span>?<\/span> After all, he\u2019s president <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> because of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what he is<\/em><\/span> but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what he isn\u2019t<\/em><\/span> \u2014 which is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Hillary Clinton<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">That\u2019s fine, but Republicans and conservatives who\u2019ve been supportive of Trump <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>should not delude themselves that things have changed<\/em><\/span>, that the president <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>has evolved into a conservative<\/em><\/span> because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we\u2019d like him to be one<\/em><\/span>, or because he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>occasionally proclaims himself one<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>The euphemism has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>always been<\/em><\/span> that the president is \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>transactional<\/em><\/span>.\u201d <span style=\"color: #003300;\">Of course, that only makes sense as the simulacrum of fixed principles if there is something identifiable that the transactions are designed to advance.<\/span> In the president\u2019s case, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that would be Donald J. Trump<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">That is not an original observation, either.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>What conservatives and Republicans <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>often gloss over<\/em><\/span>, since it is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not very flattering<\/em><\/span>, is that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>we<\/em><\/span> are transactional, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>too<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Don\u2019t get me wrong.<\/span> I am <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> singing from the Never-Trump hymnal. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">I am <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> accusing my fellow conservatives and Republicans of whoring themselves, of checking their principles at the door and making loyalty to the president their compass.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Quite the opposite<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>trick<\/em><\/span> in this uneasy alliance has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>always been<\/em><\/span> to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>maintain our principles while convincing the president to come around<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Not<\/em><\/span> because he necessarily <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>agrees<\/em><\/span>, since his agreements <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>are fleeting<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He has to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>convinced<\/em><\/span> that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>it\u2019s in his interest<\/em><\/span> to come around.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Which brings us to this business of fighting the last war.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">When Donald Trump was a presidential candidate, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>his impulse<\/em><\/span> \u2014 and, as we\u2019ve seen, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>there is no seven-second delay between an impulse and its verbalizing<\/em><\/span> \u2014 was to assert that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>his sister<\/em><\/span> would be a \u201cphenomenal\u201d nominee should a Supreme Court vacancy open up.<\/span> Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, the president\u2019s older sister who has since retired from the Third Circuit federal appeals court, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was a dogmatic supporter of abortion<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">Trump\u2019s suggestion thus <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>caused consternation on the right<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>particularly<\/em><\/span> among legal scholars and social conservatives.<\/span> He <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>realized a retraction was in order<\/em><\/span>, tout de suite.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">The incident turned out to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>significant<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Trump was not necessarily persuaded by the virtues of originalism and limited government<\/em><\/span> (though we can always hope). <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>did<\/em><\/span>, however, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>grasp the power of the issue<\/em><\/span>, its <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>galvanizing effect<\/em><\/span> on the voters he was wooing.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>When Justice Antonin Scalia unexpectedly passed away in February 2016, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the candidate realized that the campaign had shifted<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">It would no longer feature the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>usual vaporous debate<\/em><\/span> over Supreme Court nominees.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Now<\/em><\/span>, the election <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>might well turn<\/em><\/span> on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>concrete question<\/em><\/span> of whether a Republican or Hillary Clinton should be the one to fill the pending vacancy.<span style=\"color: #003300;\"> Indeed, the vacancy in its suddenness pushed to the front of voters\u2019 minds the advanced ages of many remaining justices, and the likelihood that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>next<\/em><\/span> president would have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>more than one<\/em><\/span> vacancy to fill.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Donald Trump was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>fast on his feet<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He sized up the esteem in which Republicans hold the Federalist Society, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>as well as the consternation among his base supporters that a President Hillary Clinton would replace the iconic Scalia with a progressive activist<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Trump saw that it was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>demonstrably in his interest to become the champion of conservative judges in the Scalia mold<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\">He was deft enough to see that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>leaning on the Federalist Society<\/em><\/span> for this purpose would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not only<\/em><\/span> signal the right nomination instincts but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>also<\/em><\/span> earn him some credibility with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>skeptics<\/em><\/span> who saw Trump as a New York limousine liberal.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>It <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>worked<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #003300;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>To his detriment<\/em><\/span>, though, the president has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>never allowed himself to acknowledge how narrow<\/em><\/span> \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I<\/em><\/span> think <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>as so <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WE<\/span>!<\/em>)<\/span>, how <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>miraculous<\/em><\/span> \u2014 his victory <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>was<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Hence, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the babble about \u201cthe Electoral College landslide<\/em><\/span>.\u201d <span style=\"color: #003300;\">More to the point, the president now seems <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not to see how unique<\/span><\/em> were the conditions of the 2016 battleground.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Replication<\/em><\/span> of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> battle\u2019s plan is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not a path to 2020 success<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>McCarthy goes on to offer his usual insightful analysis, though we&#8217;d temper his conclusion with <em><span
