Surgeons encouraging its use.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You can point to<\/span><\/em> the fact that a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">widely-cited study declaring hydroxychloroquine dangerous<\/span><\/em>, published in\u00a0<em>The Lancet<\/em>, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">was\u00a0retracted<\/span><\/em> after questions about its accuracy and the expertise of those conducting the study.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>If you want <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to make<\/em><\/span> the argument for the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, you would probably want to\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">avoid<\/span><\/em> using a term like \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>cure<\/em><\/span>,\u201d\u00a0because <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that\u2019s more or less the terminology of every snake-oil salesman<\/em><\/span>. Hydroxychloroquine is a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>treatment<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>positive studies<\/em><\/span> that indicate that it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>could mitigate and minimize the effects<\/em><\/span> of COVID-19 and give patients a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>much better chance of survival<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>That<\/em><\/span> would be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>good enough<\/em><\/span> as is; no one <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>needs<\/em><\/span> to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>oversell<\/em><\/span> it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If you wanted <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to make<\/em><\/span> a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>really effective argument<\/em><\/span> that reassures people you\u2019re looking at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>all<\/em><\/span> the data clearly and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> just seeing what you want to see, you would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>probably<\/em><\/span> want to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>at least acknowledge<\/em><\/span> that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span> other studies show <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>less<\/em><\/span> encouraging results.<\/span>\u00a0One recent study showed no effect compared to a control group,\u00a0the National Institutes of Health halted one clinical trial, and the\u00a0U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Human beings have different physiologies and their bodies work in different ways. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Few drugs are effective in 100 percent of patients<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> A\u00a0drug that works as an immunosuppressant\u00a0might not always be exactly the right treatment for a patient fighting off a virus.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>probably would\u00a0not<\/em><\/span>\u00a0want to\u00a0cite <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Steve Bannon<\/em><\/span> as an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>authoritative source<\/em><\/span>\u00a0and endorse the contention that \u201cDr. Fauci has misled the American public on many issues,\u201d as the president recently did on his Twitter feed, and you would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>probably want to<\/em><\/span>\u00a0check out Stella Immanuel\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a little deeper<\/em><\/span>\u00a0before you cited <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>her<\/em><\/span> as an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>authoritative source<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> If a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doctor<\/em><\/span> discusses \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>gynecological issues that are the result of having sex with witches and demons<\/em><\/span>\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>at length<\/em><\/span>, you\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>probably going to want a second opinion<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Statements from the president of the United States are dependent solely upon what he sees in his Twitter feed and whether he interprets it as praise.<\/span> The president has done this <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">from the moment he started running<\/span><\/em>, and there is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no indication<\/em><\/span> that Donald Trump has the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>desire or ability to control this habit<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If Trump <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>does not<\/em><\/span> win a second term, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>his sweeping lack of impulse control and unwillingness to evaluate sources will be big reasons why<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Even when he\u2019s got a plausible or defensible argument, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he tends to make it in the least effective possible way<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The president\u2019s attention is much more likely to be drawn by sweeping statements on Twitter or conspiracy theories about sinister doctors covering up a cure than by lengthy, detailed, and even-handed medical-journal studies.<\/span> But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>what is<\/em><\/span> most persuasive and intriguing to the president <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is not<\/em><\/span> necessarily what will persuade vast swaths of the public.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">This is often characterized by the president\u2019s ardent supporters as, \u201cYou just don\u2019t like how he Tweets!\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>No<\/em><\/span>, it\u2019s that he\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>such<\/em><\/span> a poor communicator, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>he undermines his argument<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>even when he\u2019s right<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>We see this in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>issue after issue<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>Yesterday, during the coronavirus briefing, Trump complained that Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>have high approval ratings<\/em><\/span> but he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>doesn\u2019t<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cAnd yet, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>they\u2019re<\/em><\/span> highly thought of \u2014 but <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">nobody<\/span><\/em> likes <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>me<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> It can <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>only be my personality<\/em><\/span>.\u201d <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">He is <em>constantly<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>publicly<\/em><\/span> exhibiting <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>insufferable self-pity<\/em><\/span> when Americans are trying to get through a pandemic.<\/span> Welcome to the presidency. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">As\u00a0Harry Truman may or may not have said, \u201cif you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Right now<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Joe Biden<\/em><\/span> is not beating Donald Trump. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Donald Trump<\/em><\/span> is beating Donald Trump.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unfortunately for the rest of us, Trump&#8217;s weapon is on full-auto with an inexhaustible magazine.\u00a0 Though in fairness, as The Boss recently observed, Trump is his <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>second-worst<\/em><\/span> enemy; the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hopelessly biased anti-Trump MSM<\/em><\/span> is his <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most implacable<\/em><\/span> foe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, just when his numbers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><em>may<\/em><\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/guybenson\/2020\/07\/30\/polls-trump-turning-it-around-n2573357\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>be turning around<\/em><\/span><\/a>, The Donald once again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifezette.com\/2020\/07\/presidential-tweet-not-going-over-well\/?utm_source=activeengage&amp;utm_medium=email\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">aims his gun squarely at his own two feet<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a> by tweeting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/don.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-83642\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/don.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/don.png 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/don-300x164.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but this is a subject Trump raises through some surrogate, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span><\/em> one he brings up\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>personally<\/em><\/span> four months before the election, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>particularly<\/em><\/span> when he&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>already<\/em><\/span> been accused, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>however falsely<\/em><\/span>, with\u00a0intent to unconstitutionally continue to occupy the Oval Office.\u00a0 The man thus provides the words which enable his enemies to flesh out what were heretofore baseless charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: we&#8217;re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> and <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">never have been<\/span><\/em> a die-hard Trumpeteer.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t credit The Donald as a magical deal-maker, nor do we believe him possessed of preternatural negotiating skills.\u00a0 We generally find him a bumbling, bombastic boor for who English is a second language; and while we largely approve of his policies&#8230;certainly more than those of the last two Republican presidents&#8230;there&#8217;s plenty he&#8217;s done with which we find fault, including, as of late, his SCOTUS picks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We didn&#8217;t vote for him in the GOP primary, and likely wouldn&#8217;t have cast our ballot for him in <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any other<\/span><\/em> election against <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any other<\/span><\/em> candidate.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Except<\/em><\/span> 2016 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>wasn&#8217;t<\/em> <em>just any other election<\/em><\/span>, and Trump <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>wasn&#8217;t<\/em><\/span> running against <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just any other candidate<\/span><\/em>; it was, until this year,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the most<\/em><\/span> important election <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in our lifetime<\/span><\/em>, and he was running against Satan in a XXX pantsuit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our opinion of him&#8230;as well as the reasons we&#8217;ll be pulling the lever for him again on November 3rd&#8230;remain unchanged.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of those deserving to be damned with faint praise, we found this quote from Mike Huckabee on the legacy of John Lewis particularly ironic:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>This is a man who\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>finished well<\/em><\/span>,&#8221; Huckabee concluded, &#8220;and who left a\u00a0wonderful legacy of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>loving<\/em><\/span>\u00a0people, of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">caring<\/span><\/em> about people,\u00a0of believing that the best way\u00a0to achieve <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>the appropriate<\/em><\/span>, the\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><strong style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rightful civil rights for every\u00a0human being<\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>\u00a0regardless of who\u00a0they are<\/em><\/span>, was by nonviolence.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Loving&#8221;&#8230;&#8221;caring&#8221;&#8230;about &#8220;the rightful civil rights for\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">every<\/span><\/em> human being&#8221;&#8230;seriously?!?\u00a0 What about the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unborn<\/em><\/span>?!?\u00a0 Yet another reason we consider Huckabee tied in distant second for the title of&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ufsdVxxsMug?start=27&amp;end=30&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span
