Many who do not enjoy protected status have had careers ended and been reduced to penury.<\/span> Social strains and suicides multiplied. Forcibly deferring all manner of medical care is sure to impose needless suffering and death. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">In sum, the lockdowns\u2019 medical and economic dysfunctions make for multiples of the deaths and miseries of the COVID-19 virus itself.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Bad judgments and usurpations<\/em><\/span>\u2014the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>scam<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not the germs<\/em><\/span>\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>define this disaster\u2019s dimensions<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">The COVID-19\u2019s devastating effect on the U.S. body politic is analogous to what diseases do to persons whom age (<i>senectus ipsa est morbus<\/i>) and various debilities and corruptions had already placed on death\u2019s slippery slope.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Outside of the few who have gained (and are still gaining) power and wealth from the panic, Americans are asking what it will take to end this outrage\u2014not to modify it with any \u201cnew normal\u201d decided by who knows whom, on who knows what authority. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">Since no one in authority is leading those who want to end it, Americans also wonder who may lead that cause.<\/span> What follows suggests answers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">What history will record as the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>great COVID scam of 2020<\/em><\/span> is based on 1) a set of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>untruths and baseless assertions<\/em><\/span>\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>often outright lies<\/em><\/span>\u2014about the novel coronavirus <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and<\/em><\/span> its effects; 2) the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>production and maintenance of physical fear through a near-monopoly of communications to forestall challenges to the U.S.. ruling class, led by the Democratic Party<\/em><\/span>, 3) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>defaulted opposition<\/em><\/span> on the part of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most Republicans<\/em><\/span>, thus <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>confirming<\/em><\/span> their status as the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>ruling class\u2019s junior partner<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">No default<\/span><\/em> has been greater than that of America\u2019s Christian churches\u2014<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">supposedly<\/span><\/em> society\u2019s guardians of truth.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Since <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>obfuscation, pretense, and lies<\/em><\/span> concerning the COVID-19 are the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>effective agents of the panic and of the seizure of arbitrary power<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>truth and clarity about it<\/em><\/span> are the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>foundational requirements for escaping its effects<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Here is a dose<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Though what follows is lengthy, it&#8217;s as complete a compilation of the truth as we&#8217;ve viewed to date, and provides a great resource when engaging those still convinced <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>their life<\/em><\/span> depends upon\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>destroying<\/em><em> the lives<\/em><\/span> of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>tens of millions of their fellow Americans<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In other words, whatever anyone&#8217;s intentions <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><em>back on March 15th<\/em><\/span>\u00a0when Trump called for a two-week nationwide shutdown to &#8220;flatten the curve&#8221;, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>since then<\/em><\/span>, it&#8217;s been\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all about defeating The Donald on November 3rd<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Since we&#8217;re on the subject of those willing to sacrifice others for their own personal gain, writing at <em>NRO<\/em>, Kevin Williamson recounts&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/08\/the-decline-and-fall-of-the-national-rifle-association\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=WIR%20-%20Sunday%202020-08-09&amp;utm_term=WIR-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #008080; text-decoration: underline;\">The Decline and Fall of the National Rifle Association<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"article-header__title\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/08\/the-decline-and-fall-of-the-national-rifle-association\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=WIR%20-%20Sunday%202020-08-09&amp;utm_term=WIR-Smart\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And the rise of something sinister<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/4axcjd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-83995\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/4axcjd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/4axcjd.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/4axcjd-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"drop\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>W<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong><span class=\"small_caps\">ayne LaPierre<\/span>\u00a0is not the first nonprofit high-roller.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>One of the scandals of the 1990s that never quite got off the ground the way Democrats had hoped had to do with how much the Red Cross paid its CEO, at the time Elizabeth Dole, who had been labor secretary in the George H. W. Bush administration and was wife to then-Senator Bob, soon thereafter the 1996 Republican presidential nominee. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">The Red Cross paid Mrs. Dole $200,000 a year, or about $380,000 in 2020 dollars, a $15,000 bump over what it had paid her predecessor.<\/span> She donated her first year\u2019s salary as a goodwill gesture.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">There was never any serious argument that there was anything improper about Mrs. Dole\u2019s salary.<\/span> But that kind of a paycheck just\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>feels<\/em><\/span>\u00a0unseemly to certain people \u2014 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mostly<\/span><\/em> those who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>do not themselves<\/em><\/span> make a lot of money and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>believe<\/em><\/span> that they really <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>should<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">In reality, nonprofits and charities compete in the same labor market as any other institution, and high-end executives cost a lot of money.<\/span>\u00a0The highest-paid nonprofit CEOs of 2017 (the most recent year for which the Economic Research Institute has reported data) were mostly (but not exclusively) executives in <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">health-care systems<\/span><\/em>, and they were paid salaries similar to what they would expect to earn as executives in for-profit health-care systems or banks: $21.6 million for the president and CEO of Banner Health, $12 million for the head of Carilion, $11.9 million for the head of Money Management International, a nonprofit credit-counseling operation funded by institutions that want debtors to pay their debts. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">(\u201cNonprofit\u201d does not imply the absence of self-interest.)<\/span> The CEOs of large ($1 billion or more in assets) <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">nonprofit credit unions<\/span><\/em> make <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>on average<\/em><\/span> about a million and a half bucks a year, and the best-paid of them (again as of 2017) took home $12.5 million in total compensation. <span style=\"color: #008080;\">As with their colleagues in for-profit banking, credit-union CEOs usually draw a relatively small salary but can earn a great deal of money in performance-based pay by achieving certain business goals.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Against that background, it is important to understand that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>there are at least three things going on<\/em><\/span> with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>New York attorney general\u2019s attempt<\/em><\/span> to have the National Rifle Association legally dissolved: The first of those things is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a political jihad<\/em><\/span> that may or may not end with the NRA\u2019s having its charter revoked but that certainly will subject it to ruinous litigation costs and disruption, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>a transparent effort to sideline it before the November election<\/em><\/span>; the second is a longer-term <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>effort to discredit the NRA<\/em><\/span> by appealing to the same kind of envy-based politics that were deployed against Mrs. Dole all those years ago; the third, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>currently being treated almost as an afterthought<\/em><\/span>, is a legitimate investigation into <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>potential<\/em><\/span> financial wrongdoing at the NRA, of which there is more than a whiff.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">What is going on in New York State is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> about Wayne LaPierre\u2019s bar tab or who pays for him to get from point\u00a0<em>a<\/em>\u00a0to point\u00a0<em>b<\/em>\u00a0in rock-star style.<\/span> It is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>totalitarianism on the subscription plan<\/em><\/span>, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>slow emergence of a distributed police state<\/em><\/span> whose headquarters is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nowhere<\/em><\/span> and whose jurisdiction is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>everywhere<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We&#8217;ve never been a fan of Wayne LaPierre; his rhetoric&#8217;s repetitive, his communication skills significantly lacking, particularly for a position where the ability to articulate the goals and beliefs of one&#8217;s membership is so important.\u00a0 Sorta like the <em>NRA<\/em> version of Sean Hannity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: membership in the <em>NRA<\/em> is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">voluntary<\/span><\/em>; residency in managed care facilities is most often\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 It seems to us the Empire State A.G.&#8217;s time would be better spent investigating the decisions leading to the deaths of so many seniors in New York&#8217;s nursing homes, rather than politically-motivated grand-standing against an organization headquartered outside her jurisdiction.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then there&#8217;s this meme we created on the occasion of the latest act of perjury committed by a member of the Obama Cartel:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/4ay3xy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-84024\"
