“Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended banning protesters from her block, saying Thursday that she has received threats against her and her family. \u201cI think that residents of this city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis\u2026understand that I have a right to make sure that my home is secure,\u201d the mayor told reporters Thursday, according to the\u00a0Chicago Tribune.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Police could not cite instances where Lightfoot\u2019s predecessor, Rahm Emanuel, had his home repeatedly blocked off from protesters, the Tribune reported. Lightfoot, who receives\u00a024\/7 protection from the police<\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>including squad cars stationed at her home, said that comparing the level of protection she receives to previous mayors doesn\u2019t \u201cmake any sense\u201d because \u201cthis is a different time like no other.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to make any excuses for the fact that, given the threats I have personally received, given the threats to my home and family, I\u2019m going to do everything I can to make sure they\u2019re protected,\u201d the mayor said. \u201cI make no apologies whatsoever for that.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Chicago’s privileged political elite enjoying 24\/7 armed<\/span><\/em> security while hundreds of the city’s ordinary, defenseless,\u00a0disarmed<\/span><\/em> citizens were murdered every year was bad enough, but this<\/span><\/em> takes the proverbial cake!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Threats…WHAT threats?!?\u00a0 Were we<\/span><\/em> a resident of the Windy City, we’d need a little bit more than Lightfoot’s say-so to believe any serious<\/span><\/em> threats have been made against her, let alone her family.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Unless Hollywood’s version of Frank Nitti has literally risen from the grave to terrorize Chicago’s first Black lesbian…<\/strong><\/p>\n
