width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sorry, but has Louis Farrakhan likewise been banned from <em>Facebook<\/em>?\u00a0 What about Maxine Waters?\u00a0 Al Sharpton?\u00a0 Jim Comey?\u00a0 Stacey Abrams?\u00a0 We rest our case.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Since we&#8217;re on the subject of gross mischaracterizations and selective moral outrage,\u00a0<em>Slate<\/em>\u00a0purports to report&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"article__hed\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2021\/01\/donald-trumps-response-to-rioters-in-u-s-capitol-posted-on-twitter.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Trump Tells Rioters He Loves Them, Urges Them to Go Home in God-Awful Statement<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CTM7gYSMn7A\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;God-awful&#8221;?\u00a0 Based on what standard?\u00a0 You&#8217;ll never know, as both Twitter and Facebook have removed the video, though a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/congress-electoral-college-tally-live-updates\/2021\/01\/06\/954098712\/in-video-trump-sympathizes-with-protesters-but-tells-them-to-go-home\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">transcript remains available at NPR<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 We state for the record Trump&#8217;s words were neither &#8220;God-awful&#8221; nor deserving of censorship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And you&#8217;ll forgive us if we harp on the point, but we can&#8217;t recall\u00a0<em>Slate<\/em>\u00a0using similar terminology to describe certain ill-advised, inflammatory and outright inaccurate statements by Trump&#8217;s predecessor, including, but far from limited to, the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LZYsW_PxWAM?start=69&amp;end=92&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p-Yt2F6m0Ts?start=0&amp;end=17&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; text-decoration: underline;\">did not know that<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Really?!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/download-1-4.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-89125\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/download-1-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/download-1-4.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/download-1-4-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Funny, no such dispensation was granted the four Minneapolis officers when George Floyd died in their custody from an unobvious over-ingestion of fentanyl.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Submitted for your perusal, two separate videos of the shooting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LsB9LlDYF30\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BrYz-O2TCKQ\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Editor&#8217;s Note<\/em><\/span>:\u00a0<em>YouTube<\/em> already scrubbed the copy of the video we initially posted, so in the event it happens again, there&#8217;s a different version available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/01\/07\/videos-show-shooting-of-ashli-babbitt-during-capitol-siege\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">at the New York Post<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a tough call, as the videos raise as many questions as they answer, including these: (1) Mrs. Babbit was clearly unarmed and not threatening anyone, which should have precluded the use of deadly force; (2) The second video clearly shows the presence of a sizable law enforcement contingent immediately prior to the shot being fired, so we&#8217;re more than a little perplexed as to why deadly force would have been required when a team of heavily armed officers were just on the scene; (3) Likewise, if the group of trespassers posed any <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">real<\/span><\/em> threat, why would the team shown coming up the stairs, along with those already on scene, have retreated?; (4) If he truly felt threatened, why would the officer not have fired a warning shot or used pepper spray?\u00a0 Hells bells, there&#8217;s a guy in a suit shown nonchalantly strolling across the hallway immediately prior to the shot being fired; (5) We have eyewitness testimony indicating the Capitol Police were curiously disorganized and seemed ill-prepared for the protest, which again begs the question &#8220;Why?&#8221;; (6) As another friend noted, one thing Washington doesn&#8217;t lack is police presence, so why weren&#8217;t more of them on the scene?\u00a0 Mayor Muriel Bowser had called up 300 members of the National Guard, so where were <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they<\/span><\/em>?; and &#8220;mobs&#8221;, as well as the use of the plural &#8220;riots&#8221; rather curious, not to mention this inaccurate yet damning observation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Most of the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">insurrectionists<\/span><\/em> were <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not wearing masks<\/span><\/em> despite the COVID-19 pandemic and attacked police officers <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">with metal pipes and chemical irritants<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh, NO: they WEREN&#8217;T WEARING MASKS!!!\u00a0 This reporter may be the same Millennial melting down on an elevator over an incorrectly positioned mask Michael Knowles featured on a recent video:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/niDb-2wtfpo?start=41&amp;end=53&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/trump-raffensperger-call-transcript-georgia-vote\/2021\/01\/03\/2768e0cc-4ddd-11eb-83e3-322644d82356_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">moved the inner parts of the machines and replaced them with other parts<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u201d his party is not likely to win the close ones.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Back in July 2016, Chuck Schumer could see that in Trump, the Republican Party had a nominee who had <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">much more<\/span><\/em> appeal among <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blue-collar whites<\/span><\/em> than usual and <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">much less appeal<\/span><\/em> among <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>suburbanites<\/em><\/span> than usual.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Schumer was <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">convinced<\/span><\/em> this was a good trade: \u201c<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/chuck-schumer-democrats-will-lose-blue-collar-whites-gain-suburbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">That<\/span><\/em> was the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">key<\/span><\/em> miscalculation of the 2016 cycle.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But by 2018, that trade didn\u2019t look as good for Republicans, as they lost control of the House;\u00a038 of the 41 congressional seats that flipped from red to blue were suburban.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Trump\u2019s blue-collar voters just didn\u2019t turn out as much in those midterms.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Those blue-collar Trump voters\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">didn\u2019t show up<\/span><\/em> in the numbers that Republicans needed in gubernatorial or senatorial races in Wisconsin and Michigan.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In 2020&#8230;that trade-off worked <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">somewhat<\/span><\/em> better for Republicans, but not quite good enough.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It\u2019s important to note that Republicans <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">won back<\/span><\/em> a bunch of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">suburban<\/span><\/em> congressional seats, driven in large part by candidates who were women, minorities, veterans, or some combination of those: Michelle Steel, Young Kim, Carlos Giminez, Maria Elvira Salazar, and Burgess Owens.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You know what suburban voters do?<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">show up and vote<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Year in, year out<\/span><\/em>, presidential years, midterms, off-year elections, special elections, non-November local elections.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They must rank among <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the<\/span><\/em> most easily overlooked, underrated, and underappreciated voters, those allegedly wishy-washy, milquetoast, not-fond-of-Trump, minivan-driving moderate suburban soccer moms and white-collar dads.<\/span> They\u2019re not exciting. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They\u2019re rarely looking for anything revolutionary.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They\u2019re not looking to \u201cburn it all down\u201d; they\u2019re the ones who <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">built the things<\/span><\/em> that would <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">get burned down<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You know why it makes sense for a political party to target its messaging and appeal to this voter demographic?<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Because you <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">don\u2019t have to do much to get them to the polls<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They do it out of habit and civic duty.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As John Bragg put it last night: \u201cThey always vote, just like they always file their taxes, pay their bills, mow their lawns, send their kids to college.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The question is, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">which party appeals to those people in 2020<\/span><\/em>?\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As for those <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blue-collar Trump voters<\/span><\/em>&#8230;Republican grassroots turnout was\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">down<\/span><\/em>\u00a0last\u00a0night.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Republicans will be arguing about <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">why<\/span><\/em> it was down for a long time.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">can argue<\/span><\/em> that David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are less than thrilling candidates<\/span><\/em>; they <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">are not<\/span><\/em>, as I like to say, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>whirling dervishes of raw political charisma<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But recall that back in November, Perdue <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">beat<\/span><\/em> Ossoff by <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more than 88,000 votes<\/span><\/em>;
