Impeachment Managers DEMAND Trump Testify at Senate Trial<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

First, though the emphasis on “demand” is ours, Zack’s headline is nonetheless at odds with both his story’s opening sentence and overall substance:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“House impeachment managers have requested<\/span><\/em><\/span> that former President Trump testify at his upcoming Senate impeachment trial.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Impeachment manager Jamie Raskin (D., Md.) sent a letter to Trump\u2019s legal team requesting<\/span><\/em><\/span> the testimony<\/span><\/strong>…”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Second, and far more important<\/span><\/em>, is what follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“<\/span><\/span> Raskin argued that the testimony was needed because Trump denied allegations set forth in the article of impeachment, which accuses the former president of \u201cincitement of insurrection.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTwo days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment,\u201d Raskin\u00a0wrote<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>.<\/span> \u201cYou have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense<\/span><\/em>. In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you<\/span><\/em><\/span> to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you decline the invitation<\/span><\/em>, we reserve any and all rights, including the right<\/span><\/em> to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and inaction) on\u200b \u200bJanuary 6, 2021<\/span><\/em>.\u201d Raskin continued<\/strong><\/span>…”<\/p>\n
