Bonfire of the Sanities: California\u2019s Deranged Revival of the Aztec Gods<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

“Apparently, for the sake of the state’s schoolchildren, we need to set the record straight on the blood-soaked worship of ancient deities.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

…<\/span>As I\u00a0noted<\/a><\/span><\/em>\u00a0a few weeks ago, the most astonishing part of the curriculum is the section that deals with religion:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Students are to be taught that white Christian settlers<\/span> committed \u201ctheocide\u201d against indigenous tribes when they arrived in the New World by <\/strong>murdering Native American gods<\/span><\/strong> and replacing them<\/span> with the Christian God<\/span>. According to the curriculum, this replacement ushered in a regime defined by \u201ccoloniality, dehumanization, and genocide,\u201d and the \u201cexplicit erasure and replacement of holistic Indigeneity and humanity.\u201d<\/span> But all is not lost, we are told. For students will learn that they have the power and the responsibility to build a social order defined by \u201ccountergenocide,\u201d which will eventually supplant the last vestiges of colonial Christianity and pave the way for the \u201cregeneration of indigenous epistemic and cultural futurity.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The curriculum presents the pagan gods of the Aztec empire as worthier objects of study and veneration than Jesus of Nazareth<\/span><\/em>. This presentation does not rest at the level of theory or academic inquiry<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> As Christopher F. Rufo has\u00a0observed<\/a><\/em><\/span>, teachers are encouraged by the authors of the curriculum to lead their students in an \u201cethnic studies community chant<\/em><\/span>,\u201d which takes the form of worship offered up to these deities<\/span><\/em>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka \u2014 whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifice and cannibalism<\/span> \u2014 asking him for the power to be \u201cwarriors\u201d for \u201csocial justice.\u201d<\/span> Next, the students chant to the gods Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totek, seeking \u201chealing epistemologies\u201d and \u201ca revolutionary spirit.\u201d Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices<\/span> during Aztec rule.<\/span> Finally, the chant comes to a climax with a request for \u201cliberation, transformation, [and] decolonization,\u201d after which students shout \u201cPanche beh! Panche beh!\u201d in pursuit of ultimate \u201ccritical consciousness.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/span>…”<\/p>\n

‘Cause the Aztecs were a beneficent breed, a peaceful people wanting nothing more than quiet coexistence with their neighbors.\u00a0 You know…like the Romulans…the Klingons…or the ChiComs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hell’s bells (in this case, quite literally<\/span><\/em><\/strong>!), why not just worship Satan outright?!?\u00a0 After all, that’s what they’re essentially doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

College Student Reinstated After Suspension for ‘Man Cannot Become Woman’ Post<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

It also insinuated that he must accept the liberal ideology on homosexuality and transgenderism<\/span><\/em><\/span>…Owens said he would not comply with the demands for “re-education” training<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span>…”<\/p>\n

Thank the Lord for all<\/span><\/em> victories, whenever they come, no matter how small<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>, but particularly during this Easter week.<\/strong><\/p>\n
