Liberals the past year have become addicted to political wokeness. It\u2019s time for an intervention<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

“As with the routine battles over gerrymandering House districts, this dispute about election law is a\u00a0political\u00a0<\/em>fight between the two major parties. But alongside Georgia, we have the simultaneous trial in Minneapolis of Derek Chauvin, accused of murdering George Floyd during an arrest May 25.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Since that happened, progressives repeatedly have deployed the race card against their opposition, notably over post-pandemic voting legislation. Their goal, again, is partisan and political: to enact H.R.1, which would nationalize federal elections, effectively eliminating a traditional role for elected legislators and other officials in all 50 states.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, politics is hardball. But today we are living through a flood tide of efforts to reduce politics to a permanent confessional on racism. To clear a path for passage of H.R.1, Barack Obama called the Senate filibuster a \u201cJim Crow relic,\u201d a volatile charge to make in 2021 against so many Americans.<\/span>\u00a0Joe Biden, the president of the United States, repeated that lovely thought last week: \u201cThis is Jim Crow on steroids, what they\u2019re doing in Georgia and 40 other states.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In the interests of tit-for-tat, note that in 2016, President Obama sat next to Ra\u00fal Castro watching a baseball game, supported by the major leagues, in communist Cuba, whose liberalization since that state visit has been zero.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…I suspect the left\u2019s professional activists were as taken aback as anyone at how the middle-aged liberals running big companies and cultural institutions swooned for wokeness. Why so easy?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Up to now, feeling guilty about life\u2019s differences, which are real and complex, has suggested some ambivalence about the causes. Not anymore.<\/span> Rather than wrestle with the rampant illogic and contradictions inside claims about identity or systemic racism, liberals have given in completely to the narcotic pleasure of total guilt. Finally, they\u2019re free.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Alas, their acts of addictive self-release, such as mindlessly canceling Atlanta, will keep disrupting everyone else\u2019s lives. The time has come for an intervention.<\/span> Boycott baseball<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>“<\/p>\n

…Now, what makes this particular gaffe troubling is that we\u2019ve been told, many times over, that Biden is a \u201crail enthusiast.\u201d<\/span> In fact, the Obama White House called Biden a \u201cfamed rail enthusiast.\u201d But Biden<\/span><\/em> appears to be the kind of rail enthusiast who doesn\u2019t know or understand the first darn thing about trains<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…Yesterday, Biden continued, \u201cWe\u2019re going to talk about commercial aircraft flying at subsonic speeds \u2014 supersonic speeds. To be able, figuratively, if you may, if we decide to do it, traverse the world in about an hour, travel 21,000 miles an hour.<\/span> So much is changing, and we have got to lead it.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…Biden\u2019s vision of a passenger aircraft that can \u201ctraverse the world in about an hour, travel 21,000<\/span><\/em> miles an hour\u201d is a strong argument for mandatory drug testing in the White House.<\/span>\u00a0The fastest jet in the world is the SR-71 Blackbird,\u00a0perhaps the most famous spy plane in the world, and it travels at 2,100<\/em><\/span> mph.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…Biden is envisioning a commercial airliner that will travel ten times faster<\/em><\/span> than the current fastest jet in the world. He might as well have promised warp speed, a hyperdrive, or teleportation<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0It goes well with his <\/span>promise to cure cancer<\/a><\/span><\/em> if elected president<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

…when Biden talks about advances in plane and train technology, he speaks as if the main problems are that we\u2019re not dreaming big enough<\/em><\/span> and we\u2019re not spending enough money<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> This is the rallying cry of a man who has never<\/span><\/em> thought about the engineering challenges and who apparently never intends<\/span><\/em> to think about them.<\/strong><\/span>“<\/p>\n

We’d suggest it’s the rallying cry of a man bereft of any<\/span><\/em> understanding of engineering…beyond perhaps running a Lionel train set.\u00a0 Then again, the only claim our current Secretary of Transportation has to expertise in trains is having pulled one.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next, six more items specifically selected for inquiring minds:<\/strong><\/p>\n

(1). Townhall.com<\/em>\u00a0informs us the two Black teenage girls who murdered the Uber Eats driver in the Washington Navy Yard\u00a0will apparently receive the equivalent to a slap on the wrist<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(2). Writing at the WSJ<\/em>, Kim Strassel suggests, given the enormously energizing fund-raising influence of Groper Joe, the Red Queen and Chucky, rumors of the GOP’s imminent demise are both greatly exaggerated and terribly premature<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

(3). Stephen Miller’s timing is perfect, as just when he’s\u00a0forming a\u00a0new legal group to challenge Democratic policies through lawsuits<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0Matt Vespa reports 46* has announced his promised executive gun control orders<\/em><\/span><\/a>, which are both utterly useless<\/em><\/span><\/a> and of questionable constitutionality.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

(4). NRO<\/em> informs us business continues to make strange bedfellows, as a fully-woke\u00a0Procter & Gamble participated in testing an advertising technique being developed in China<\/span><\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 Soooo…teaming up abroad with a government that extorts slave labor from concentration camp inmates is okay as long as you decry “toxic masculinity” at home.\u00a0\u00a0Best of the Web offers some additional details<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a> you’ll likely find of interest, but our solution remains the same: boycott P&G<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(5). Good for David Wells<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 We wish more<\/span><\/em> people took his position on MLB.<\/strong><\/p>\n
