color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/05\/the-dojs-abusive-indictment-of-the-police-who-killed-george-floyd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I explained<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0that the fallout was likely to include a long adjournment in the trial of three of the former officers, previously scheduled to commence in August. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Sure enough, as\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/attorneys-for-ex-cops-charged-in-floyd-death-ask-court-to-sanction-prosecutors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our Caroline Downey reports<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>, Judge Peter Cahill has postponed the trial for seven months \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>until March 2022<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Court-ordered delay of a trial, in the hope that the prejudicial effect of intense media coverage will fade, is a common remedy when defendants colorably claim that the jury pool is likely to be influenced against them \u2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>especially<\/em><\/span> if prosecutors are responsible for spates of publicity.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">To reiterate, I believe we must assume that the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division was willfully stoking prejudicial publicity, tainting the jury pool for the now-postponed August trial.<\/span> In addition, the DOJ was ratcheting up pressure on Judge Cahill to impose a severe sentence on Derek Chauvin, who was convicted on murder charges last month and is to be sentenced next month. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">There was simply <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no legal justification for the public announcement<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which one can only conclude means the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">legal lynching<\/span><\/em> of Derek Chauvin can in no way, shape or form be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>legally<\/em><em> justified<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, over at <em>The Corner<\/em>, David Harsanyi finds 46* clearing a different &#8220;killer&#8221; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/the-white-houses-approach-to-the-colonial-pipeline-is-baffling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contention<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0yesterday that a ransomware attack emanating from a foreign actor is merely a \u201cprivate sector\u201d matter. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Though, if our last president had claimed that a pipeline disruption that caused gas lines and skyrocketing prices <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">had nothing to do with the Russian government<\/span><\/em> \u2014 even though the group behind the attack, DarkSide, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">seemingly operates freely in that country<\/span><\/em> \u2014 there would be a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">thermonuclear media meltdown<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Biden provided <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no evidence<\/span><\/em> for his assertion. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>five years<\/em><\/span>, there was <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">virtually nothing<\/span><\/em> the panic-mongering press and Democrats <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wouldn\u2019t blame on the nefarious Russians<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> The administration, for example, is\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/watch-reporter-asks-jen-psaki-if-joe-biden-regrets-attacking-trump-over-russian-bounty-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">still defending<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/russian-bounties-fake-news-after-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">debunked Russian bounty story<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>As is, we detail below, Liz Cheney<\/em>.)<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The media spilled millions of hysterical words convincing Americans that a few Twitter bots and a $200,000 Facebook ad buy was tantamount\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2018\/07\/16\/putin-russia-trump-2016-pearl-harbor-219015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">to Pearl Harbor<\/a><\/em><\/span>.<\/span> At one point,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; Salisachs told activists, according to meeting minutes obtained by the\u00a0<em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The activists were stunned. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;[Salisachs] was talking to me as if he knows so much better than we do,&#8221; Frances Hui, a Hong Kong activist who attended the meeting, told the\u00a0<em>Free Beacon<\/em>.<\/span> &#8220;We were all in shock\u2014they were so disrespectful to us.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">The October meeting was <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">far from the first time<\/span><\/em> an Olympics official dismissed Chinese human rights concerns.<\/span> Salisachs&#8217;s comments echoed those <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>made by his father<\/em><\/span>\u2014Juan Antonio Samaranch, the former president of the International Olympics Committee\u2014<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in the years leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">The senior Samaranch, remembered today in China as a &#8220;dream-maker,&#8221; for years turned a blind eye to Chinese state repression, telling reporters in 2008, &#8220;If we are talking about human rights, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">many countries that attack China should look at themselves<\/span><\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">When pressed<\/span><\/em>, the senior Samaranch often <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>switched up his arguments<\/em><\/span>, saying that the IOC <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">can leverage its international prestige to nudge China to improve its human rights record<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">The IOC has abandoned even the pretense of using its influence to reform the Chinese regime.<\/span> Salisachs refused to consider discussions about Chinese human rights abuses, telling activists <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the Olympics is not the place to deliberate &#8220;political agendas<\/span><\/em>,&#8221; according to the meeting minutes&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>To try to leverage on the Olympic Games to obtain a number of political agendas is very dangerous,&#8221;
