{"id":97097,"date":"2021-10-10T19:24:51","date_gmt":"2021-10-10T23:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=97097"},"modified":"2021-10-10T19:24:58","modified_gmt":"2021-10-10T23:24:58","slug":"the-daily-gouge-archive-monday-october-4th-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/?p=97097","title":{"rendered":"The Daily Gouge Archive, Monday, October 4th, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s Monday, October 4th, 2021&#8230;but before we begin, consider the following&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/landonmion\/2021\/10\/02\/ucla-professor-sues-university-after-refusing-to-grade-black-students-more-leniently-n2596859\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; text-decoration: underline;\">UCLA Professor Sues University After Refusing to Grade Black Students More Leniently<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zrzMhU_4m-g?start=27&amp;end=29&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>A UCLA professor has filed a lawsuit against the school after he was placed on leave and faced threats of termination <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for refusing to grade black students more leniently than non-black students<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;Recently, I was suspended from my job for refusing to treat my black students as lesser than their non-black peers,&#8221; Gordon Klein wrote in an\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/bariweiss.substack.com\/p\/why-i-am-suing-ucla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">op-ed<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0Thursday.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Klein noted that the controversy began back on June 2, 2020, eight days after the death of George Floyd, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>after a white student emailed him requesting a &#8220;no harm&#8221; final for black students<\/em><\/span>, meaning that low scores would not be counted, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">because of the &#8220;unjust murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd<\/span><\/em>.&#8221; <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Klein described the proposition as &#8220;deeply patronizing and offensive&#8221; to black students.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>He responded to the student, whose name was not included, by asking if there are &#8220;any students that may be of mixed parentages, such as half black half-Asian?&#8221;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;What do you suggest I do with respect to them?<\/span> A full concession or just half? <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Also, do you have any idea if any students are from Minneapolis?<\/span> I assume that they are probably especially devastated as well,&#8221; Klein wrote in the op-ed. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;I am thinking that a white student from there might possibly be even more devastated by this, especially because some might think that they\u2019re racist even if they are not.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>His response prompted <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>students<\/em><\/span> to blast him as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>racist<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">A petition <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">demanding he be fired<\/span><\/em> circulated that garnered around <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>20,000 signatures over two days<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Klein further noted that the dean of UCLA\u2019s business school <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>launched an investigation<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>placed him on leave<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>nearly terminated him<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;It was around that time that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I started to receive death threats<\/em><\/span> on voicemail and email.<\/span> One email, dated June 11, read: \u2018You are a typical bigoted, prejudiced and racist dirty, filthy, crooked, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>arrogant Jew<\/em><\/span> k&#8211;e mother f&#8211;ker! <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Too bad Hitler and the Nazis are not around to give you a much needed Zyklon B shower,\u2019&#8221; Klein wrote.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Klein said he was reinstated after nearly three weeks of suspension, <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&#8220;But this story is not over.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>&#8220;You see, most of my income comes <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not from teaching at UCLA<\/span><\/em> but from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>consulting to law firms and other corporations<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Several of those firms <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>dropped me<\/em><\/span> after they got wind that I\u2019d been suspended \u2014 the better to put distance between themselves and a \u2018racist.\u2019<\/span> That cost me the lion\u2019s share of my annual income.<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"> The students involved in this escapade may have moved on to other causes.<\/span> I have not.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">I\u2019m not sure I <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ever<\/span><\/em> will<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;then <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you<\/span><\/em> tell <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">us<\/span><\/em>: Outside of the former and current Communist Bloc and other totalitarian states like Nazi Germany&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U4cDjwsVFhg?start=36&amp;end=39&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">We<\/span><\/em> haven&#8217;t&#8230;nor did we ever <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>dream<\/em><\/span> we&#8217;d live to see such in our country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For a related item highlighting the Socialist-inspired insanity running rampant &#8216;cross the land, be certain to watch the Tucker Carlson segment featured as our <em>Tales of The Darkside<\/em> video, accessible through link #3 immediately below the <em>Quote of the Day<\/em> at the top of the page.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, here&#8217;s <em>The Gouge<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, G. color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/manchin-cannot-spend-trillions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his words<\/a><\/em><\/span>, his actions reveal his budget hawkishness to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>phony<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>To sum up, in the past year and a half, Manchin has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>already voted in favor of $6.5 trillion worth of spending<\/em><\/span>, and he has indicated a willingness to vote for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>at least another $1.5 trillion<\/em><\/span>, which would bring the total to $<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">8 trillion<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">And he is trying to portray himself as the voice of fiscal sanity, because he is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> willing to go <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>from $8 trillion to $10 trillion<\/em><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Call Manchin whatever you want, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>responsible budget hawk<\/em><\/span>, he <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>is not<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IKFthgUbCdY?start=131&amp;end=133&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#trends_dailycases_newhospitaladmissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0peaked and started to decline in early September.<\/span> Nationwide, COVID-19 hospitalization rates have\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/public-health\/states-ranked-by-covid-19-hospitalization-rates-august-2.html?origin=BHRE&amp;utm_source=BHRE&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=newsletter&amp;oly_enc_id=7054I2936723I0L\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">decreased 17 percent<\/a><\/em><\/span>\u00a0over the past two weeks. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Only 19 states had any increase, and many were small.<\/span> The remaining 31 states and the District of Columbia saw hospitalization rates decline. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But that hasn\u2019t stopped journalists from publicizing localized exceptions to the good news.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>The suggestion in many articles is that people who refuse vaccination are forcing widespread life-and-death choices. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Journalists appear to be channeling President Biden who, in\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/09\/24\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-covid-19-response-and-the-vaccination-program-8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">remarks<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0late last week, chastised \u201cthe unvaccinated [who] overcrowd our hospitals, overrunning emergency rooms and intensive care units, leaving no room for someone with a heart attack or a cancer operation needed to get the lifesaving care because the places where they would get that care are crowded; they are not available.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Yet, while the unvaccinated may be foolish or misinformed, there is little evidence they have crowded out others. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Some people delayed necessary care during the pandemic, but that was usually the result of fear, exacerbated by stay-at-home orders and other lockdown measures.<\/span> Few if any people were unable to obtain emergency care if they sought it out.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Anyone who has worked in a hospital knows that ICU beds are a scarce resource and that ICU physicians often need to choose which sick patients get available beds and which do not.<\/span> Perhaps the pandemic has made these choices more acute in limited locations for limited amounts of time. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">But triaging ICU patients is not a new phenomenon.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Distorting the news to censure the unvaccinated is unhelpful and unwarranted<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>And<\/em><\/span>, outside of Communist countries and Nazi Germany, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unprecedented<\/em><\/span> in a free country!)<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\">The unvaccinated are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>primarily harming themselves<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> Unfortunately, many media outlets are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>misleading us all<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, Dr. Faux Chi is still at it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/fauci-slammed-claiming-too-soon-to-consider-christmas\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>refusing to grant Americans permission to celebrate Christmas together<\/em><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Which makes Hugh Hewitt&#8217;s suggestion, since no one but the MSM listens to him anymore<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>, <\/em><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/anthony-fauci-hugh-hewitt-interview\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;
