style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>immigrant<\/em><\/span> families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation, according to people familiar with the matter, as several agencies work to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of parents and children who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>say the government subjected them to\u00a0lasting psychological trauma<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift, the people familiar with the matter said.<\/span> Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>to seek asylum<\/em><\/span> in the U.S. included one parent and one child, the people said. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Many families would likely get smaller payouts, depending on their circumstances, the people said.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>The total potential payout could be $1 billion or more<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So at the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">same time<\/span><\/em> 46* is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>taking<\/em><\/span> our money through the shortages and inflated prices he&#8217;s created, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and<\/span><\/em> proposing to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>take even more<\/em><\/span> with his proposed tax increases while saddling our progeny with perpetual, unpayable debt, he&#8217;s trying to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>give it<\/em><\/span> to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>criminal foreign nationals<\/em><\/span> who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>illegally entered our country<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We should also note the three glaring inaccuracies in the five short sentences above: (i) These <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>aren&#8217;t<\/em><\/span> &#8220;immigrants&#8221;, they&#8217;re ILLEGAL immigrants; (ii) The &#8220;government&#8221; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>didn&#8217;t<\/em><\/span> subject them to\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>anything<\/em><\/span>, rather they <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">subjected themselves<\/span><\/em> to whatever they experienced; and, (iii) They <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">weren&#8217;t<\/span><\/em> &#8220;asylum seekers&#8221;, but dirt-poor peasants looking to take advantage of a better life north of the border.\u00a0 Thus does the reporting of the <em>Journal<\/em> differ almost completely from its editorial page.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: As a Navy classmate we spoke with earlier today observed, Biden is essentially proposing to provide illegal aliens the same benefits accorded a military officer who honorably served his country for 20 years, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>far more<\/em><\/span> than any enlisted retiree.\u00a0 Sorta puts this incredible insult\u00a0into proper perspective, no?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Or, as this meme from Balls Cotton puts it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a to promoting &#8220;gender equity and equality<\/em><\/span>.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JsBysD68Sgs?start=29&amp;end=31&amp;\" width=\"420\" height=\"235\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">A 42-page report from the White House Gender Policy Council entitled the &#8220;National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality&#8221; outlines a &#8220;whole of government&#8221; approach to ending so-called inequality between men, women, and transgender people.<\/span> <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Among<\/span><\/em> the critical steps necessary to remedy disparities between these groups, the White House <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>alleges<\/em><\/span>, is working to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>overturn cash bail<\/em><\/span>, a legal mechanism that proponents say helps keep violent criminals off the street. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">&#8220;We will work to end cash bail and reform our pretrial system, recognizing the harm these processes cause, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>particularly for Black women and families<\/em><\/span>,&#8221; the report says. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>As Elizabeth Warren would say, HOW?!?<\/em>)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The Biden administration&#8217;s decision to push for a radical criminal justice reform measure\u2014even as broad swaths of the public say they are concerned about rising violence\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>reflects the political tensions of an increasingly unpopular president who feels compelled to placate his party\u2019s radical base<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Polling from the summer showed crime emerging as a top issue for voters, and some Democrats blamed rioting during Black Lives Matter protests for their poor down-ballot performance last November.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>According to FBI data, the country saw a nearly <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>30 percent increase<\/em><\/span> in homicides in 2020. <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Such a jump was the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">largest in one year since the federal government started collecting crime statistics<\/span><\/em> in the 1960s.<\/span> Overall, violent crime increased 5 percent.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Advocates of maintaining cash bail policies point to cities such as Chicago and New York City, which eliminated the practice for most offenses <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and saw murders and shootings rise above the national average<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0One study\u00a0by researchers at Stanford, Harvard, and Princeton universities concluded that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>pretrial release increases the likelihood of rearrest before the offender&#8217;s trial by 37 percent<\/em><\/span>, as well as the chance the alleged criminal <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>misses their court date<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yet another counterproductive Progressive policy whose impact will never be felt by those imposing it, but instead will fall on those they purport to support.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next up, in an item courtesy of Keith Calcote related to the Bill style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>One day<\/em><\/span> it\u2019s an increase in tax rates on corporations and the affluent. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>But wait<\/em><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> doesn\u2019t have the votes.<\/span> How about a carbon tax? <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>That<\/em><\/span> won\u2019t fly <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">either<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Hey, there goes\u00a0Jeff Bezos. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Let\u2019s tax <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>him<\/em><\/span> and 699 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">other<\/span><\/em> billionaires.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>It polls well<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Everyone<\/em><\/span> hates billionaires!\u00a0<\/span>Oh, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>that<\/em><\/span> may be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unconstitutional<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">We <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>still<\/em><\/span> need money, so let\u2019s try a 15% corporate minimum tax\u2014<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>though be sure to exempt investments in green energy and other pet progressive ideas<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> So it will have to be a minimum tax on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some<\/em><\/span> companies but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not others<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Bring on the Gucci Gulch lobbyists, campaign checkbooks at the ready.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>And don\u2019t forget to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>cut<\/em><\/span> taxes for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>some of the rich<\/em><\/span> by restoring the state and local tax deduction, though only for two years. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Need those New York and New Jersey House votes.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Then let\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>rush<\/em><\/span> to get all of this \u201cframework\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>agreed to by Thursday<\/em><\/span> so President Biden can have something to boast about at the global climate gabfest that will do nothing that matters about the climate.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">What a spectacle<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>For a century<\/em><\/span> Democrats have been the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>party of higher taxes<\/em><\/span>, but at least they paid <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">some<\/span><\/em> attention to the policy merits. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Tax writers Dan Rostenkowski and Lloyd Bentsen were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>serious people<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">This crowd<\/span><\/em> has <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no clue<\/span><\/em> what the consequences of their proposals will be, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>and they don\u2019t much care<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">This is the rotten tax policy you get <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>when a party is scrambling and desperate to pass legislation that is increasingly unpopular as more Americans discover what\u2019s in it<\/em><\/span>.<\/span> The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>familiar<\/em><\/span> tax increases that people <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">understand<\/span><\/em> are proving to be a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>hard sell<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #800080;\">So Democrats are rummaging through the attic of bad socialist ideas to find some way to pretend they are paying for their multi-trillion-dollar spending blitz.<\/span> The <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">best result<\/span><\/em> would be for the entire farce to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>collapse from its own dead weight<\/em><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>You know, like&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" the personification of malevolent stupidity Charles Lipson calls<\/strong><strong>&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2021\/10\/28\/doh_biden_146641.html\" class=\"broken_link\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; text-decoration: underline;\">D&#8217;oh Biden<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/606e8b96497a3.jpeg\"><img #ff6600;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Less than one-third of the country<\/em><\/span> now thinks America is \u201con the right track,\u201d according to the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/other\/direction_of_country-902.html\" class=\"broken_link\">RealClearPolitics average of polls<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span>.<\/span> That\u2019s a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>dramatic deterioration<\/em><\/span> since last spring, and a disturbing one, not only for the Biden and his party but for the country. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Three developments are driving this collapse in confidence.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>First, Biden is pursuing a self-proclaimed strategy to \u201ctransform\u201d America <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>despite his campaign promises to bring the country together, stress bipartisanship, and restore comity and normality<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">That\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>not<\/em><\/span> what he\u2019s done.<\/span> He\u2019s tried to force big, progressive changes, a strategy that was <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>bound<\/em><\/span> to be divisive <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>since he didn\u2019t campaign on that platform or win a congressional mandate to pursue it<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Second, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all<\/span><\/em> Biden\u2019s major policies <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">so far have failed<\/span><\/em> \u2014 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">some spectacularly<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> He can point to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span> major triumphs to offset them. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Third, Biden himself has been <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>unable<\/em><\/span> to mount an <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">effective, coherent defense<\/span><\/em> of his administration and its priorities.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The cumulative result is a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sharp decline<\/span><\/em> in public approval, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">especially<\/span><\/em> among independents. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Biden won the White House because he carried their votes, or <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">perhaps<\/span><\/em> because Donald Trump <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">lost them<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Now, with Trump gone and Biden standing alone, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only one in four<\/span><\/em> independents approve of the job he\u2019s doing in the Oval Office. <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(<em>And they likely haven&#8217;t ventured out of their homes since the WuFlu first hit.<\/em>)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Instead of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>heeding<\/em><\/span> those red flags, the Biden administration is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>plowing ahead, undeterred<\/em><\/span>, as the disasters <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mount<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> What the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">public sees<\/span><\/em> are <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rising prices, bottlenecked supply chains, an open Southern border, and a bungled withdrawal from Afghanistan<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">They<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> see<\/span><\/em> a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">wobbly president who seems overwhelmed by a sea of troubles<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;<\/span><strong>What worries the White House <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">now<\/span><\/em> is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more<\/span><\/em> than the gaffes, confusion, failed policies, and sinking poll numbers. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">It is the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">public\u2019s growing conviction that
