text-decoration: underline;\">No, Not Every Day Is January 6<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP21089769020816.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-99241\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP21089769020816.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP21089769020816.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP21089769020816-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>I also think that declaring every day to be January 6, as the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u2018\u00a0editorial board did, is stirring fear, suspicion, and paranoia in a country that already has more than enough of all three. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u2019 editorial board contends that \u201cThe Capitol riot continues in statehouses across the country, in a bloodless, legalized form that no police officer can arrest and that no prosecutor can try in court.\u201d<\/span> There is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no such thing<\/span><\/em> as a bloodless, legalized riot.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You can hate the laws that these elected officials are trying to pass, but those lawmakers are attempting to pass them under the legal constitutional order, and they\u2019ll be subject to judicial review to ensure they don\u2019t violate the Constitution, just like every other law.<\/span> That\u2019s <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span><\/em> a riot. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Calling it a riot is a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">metaphor that<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">obscures more than it illuminates<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> If we want there to be a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">universal condemnation of political violence<\/span><\/em>, we <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cannot<\/span><\/em> argue that <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">attempting to pass laws we oppose is just as bad as violence<\/span><\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Declaring every day to be January 6 is a bit like the familiar refrain that some particular problem, spurred by the actions <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">of a few people<\/span><\/em>, is \u201c<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">everyone\u2019s fault<\/span><\/em>.\u201d<\/span> It\u2019s a cop-out, a blurring of the lines, an attempt to spread the emotional horror stirred by specific actions, sights, and outrages in a place and time and spread it across a much broader area<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lest Liberals forget, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">were<\/span><\/em> every day January 6, every 24 hours would cost the life of an unarmed innocent, however misguided they might be.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>More importantly, just as not every day is January 6th, not even the <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">best<\/span><\/em> phrases Joe Biden&#8217;s <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ever uttered<\/span><\/em>&#8230;<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">including<\/span><\/em> what he <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mCJMF7mflGE\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">plagiarized<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrctv.org\/videos\/insane-abc-historian-compares-bidens-january-6-speech-lincolns-gettysburg-address\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">deserve the faintest favorable comparison to the worst words ever to pass the lips of Abe Lincoln, FDR, JFK or Ronald Reagan<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a related item, the <em>Journal<\/em>&#8216;s Kim Strassel relates&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"wsj-article-headline\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/jan-6-panel-wont-probe-anniversary-pelosi-cheney-protest-trump-riot-storming-capitol-police-11641506377?mod=opinion_featst_pos1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">What the Jan. 6 Panel Won\u2019t Probe<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n<h3 class=\"sub-head\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/jan-6-panel-wont-probe-anniversary-pelosi-cheney-protest-trump-riot-storming-capitol-police-11641506377?mod=opinion_featst_pos1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Members look in vain for a coup plot but ignore Congress\u2019s own security failures<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60brf7.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-99242\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60brf7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60brf7.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60brf7-300x157.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60bri6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-99243\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60bri6.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60bri6.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/60bri6-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Committee members have so far met with some 300 witnesses, received thousands of documents, and subpoenaed some 50 individuals, as well as phone and bank records. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The committee\u2019s leaks, and releases of White House text messages, have provided color, while its litigation and contempt citations have kept the press in gravy.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Yet the body\u2019s near-manic focus on Donald Trump\u2019s culpability (the facts of which have been known for a year) has also meant it has produced little that\u2019s new. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On \u201cFace the Nation\u201d this week, the committee\u2019s Vice Chairman Elizabeth Cheney waxed about the committee\u2019s \u201ctremendous progress,\u201d yet cited as her <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only example<\/span><\/em> that it now had \u201cfirsthand testimony\u201d that \u201cPresident Trump was sitting in the dining room next to the Oval Office, watching on television as the Capitol was assaulted.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSix hours of paralysis: Inside Trump\u2019s failure to act after a mob stormed the Capitol,\u201d was a headline from a Jan. 11, 2021, story in the Washington Post, which reported the president \u201cwas too busy watching fiery TV images of the crisis unfolding\u201d to listen to pleas from family and colleagues to intervene. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Thanks to the committee we now know\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">where<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>Mr. Trump lounged, and how many people he ignored.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>More notable is what the committee has <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">failed<\/span><\/em> to find. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Members made no secret they hoped to prove a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">coup<\/span><\/em> plot run from the White House.<\/span> Yet in all its 725 prosecutions, the Justice Department hasn\u2019t presented a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">scintilla of evidence<\/span><\/em> supporting the hypothesis. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Neither has the committee\u2014even after 300 witnesses, or texts of the former White House chief of staff.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Twisting in the wind are the urgent issues the committee <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">won\u2019t<\/span><\/em> explore. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In a memo this week to colleagues, Illinois Rep. Rodney Davis\u2014the ranking Republican on the House Administration Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Capitol complex\u2014noted that the select committee, a year after the riot, is \u201cno closer to finding out what led to the catastrophic security failure,\u201d even as the security situation has arguably deteriorated because of Capitol Police resignations and poor morale.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>What makes this failure uglier is that it looks to be political. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Former Capitol Police chief Steven Sund has attested that before Jan. 6 he approached House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving about obtaining the assistance of National Guard troops on the day the electoral votes were to be counted, but Mr. Irving said he was concerned about \u201coptics.\u201d<\/span> Mr. Sund says that during the violence he again urgently asked for troops, but help was delayed because Mr. Irving said he \u201cneeded to run it up the chain of command.\u201d <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mr. Irving disputes this version of events.<\/span> One obvious way to settle it is to <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">examine documents<\/span><\/em>, and the Capitol Police have produced theirs to Republicans.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But Mr. Davis reports the House sergeant-at-arms and chief administrative officer\u2014both of whom report to Mrs. Pelosi\u2014<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">have steadfastly refused to produce anything to him<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Likewise, the House general counsel has <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">stonewalled requests<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The speaker\u2019s office wields obvious control over Capitol security decisions\u2014as evidenced by Mrs. Pelosi\u2019s decrees on fencing or magnetometers or National Guard troops\u2014and any legitimate investigation would start by looking at her office\u2019s briefings and involvement in Jan. 6 security\u2014as the top of that \u201cchain of command.\u201d<\/span> Yet when Chairman Bennie Thompson was asked in July if the committee would investigate this, he said, \u201cI don\u2019t see the speaker being part and parcel\u201d of the committee\u2019s remit. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And the committee\u2019s given no indication it is going there.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The committee risks going down in history <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span><\/em> as the body that brought <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">truth<\/span><\/em> to Jan. 6, but the one that\u2014in its political zeal\u2014<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">closed its eyes to vital issues and left the Capitol just as vulnerable<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gingrich360.com\/2022\/01\/04\/democrats-are-making-a-mistake-focusing-on-jan-6\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=January%205%202022%20-%20General&amp;utm_content=January%205%202022%20-%20General+CID_b26a939022ffe4d9f651f3855b2a847f&amp;utm_source=Newsletter&amp;utm_term=Click%20Here\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><em>Newt notes<\/em><\/span><\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;&#8230;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">as<\/span><\/em> a former Speaker, I know well that it is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the Speaker\u2019s responsibility<\/span><\/em> to oversee the protection and defense of the Capitol. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">clear<\/span><\/em> that Speaker Pelosi <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">failed to do so<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A more vexing mystery obscured by Progressives&#8217; clumsy efforts to protect their own is\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/whatever-happened-to-the-january-6-pipe-bomb-maker\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=MJ_20220106&amp;utm_term=Jolt-Smart\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Whatever Happened to the January 6 Pipe-Bomb Maker<\/span><\/em><\/a><\/span>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, writing at <em>American Greatness<\/em>, the great VDH asks and answers&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Who Are the REAL Insurrectionists<\/span>?<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2022\/01\/05\/who-are-the-real-insurrectionists\/\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Stone-cold sober elites are systematically waging a far more dangerous and insidious revolution in the shadows than anything threatened by the American Right<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/cb010622dAPR20220105114532-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-99248\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/cb010622dAPR20220105114532-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/cb010622dAPR20220105114532-1.jpeg 420w, https:\/\/www.thedailygouge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/cb010622dAPR20220105114532-1-300x226.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Recently, Democrats have been despondent over Joe Biden\u2019s sinking polls. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">His policies on the economy, energy, foreign policy, the border, and COVID-19 <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all<\/span><\/em> have lost majority support.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>As a result, the Left <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">now<\/span><\/em> variously alleges that either in 2022, when they expect to lose the Congress, or in 2024, when they fear losing the presidency, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Republicans will \u201cdestroy democracy\u201d or stage a coup<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">A cynic might suggest that they <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">praise<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> democracy<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">when they get elected<\/span><\/em>\u2014only to <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">claim <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>i<\/em>t is broken when they lose<\/span><\/em>.<\/span> Or they hope to avoid their defeat by trying to terrify the electorate. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Or they <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mask their own revolutionary propensities<\/span><\/em> by <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">projecting them onto their opponents<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8230;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>We are in a dangerous revolutionary cycle. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">But the threat <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">is not<\/span><\/em> so much from loud, buffoonish one-day rioters on January 6.<\/span> Such clownish characters <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">did not for 120 days<\/span><\/em> loot, burn, attack courthouses and police precincts, cause over 30 deaths, injure 2,000 policemen, and destroy at least $2 billion in property\u2014<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all under the banner of revolutionary justice<\/span><\/em>. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">Even <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more ominously<\/span><\/em>, stone-cold sober elites are <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">systematically waging an insidious revolution in the shadows that seeks to dismantle America\u2019s institutions and the rule of law as we have known them<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s the juice: They&#8217;ve\u00a0<em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">already<\/span><\/em>\u00a0made themselves the animals more equal than others; NOW their purpose is to codify their positions so as to preserve them in perpetuity.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, we offer a quintet of specially selected items certain to stimulate inquiring Conservative minds:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>(1).
