Putin’s Gun vs. Obama’s Pen

“In international relations, an effective message needs both constructive content and form. Consider the latest messages by President Obama and Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, on Syria.

On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported the Obama administration’s warnings that it may arm Syrian rebels with advanced weaponry. One unnamed U.S. official told the Journal that this will “up the ante, if needed” to push Russia to force Assad toward political reform. But also on Tuesday (and the day before), President Putin was sending his own message: He deployed two fighter jets and a military helicopter to harass a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Baltic Sea. Training with a Polish helicopter crew, the destroyer had to suspend operations. The contrast is striking: President Obama deploys unnamed officials to offer qualified statements to reporters. President Putin turns a U.S. Navy vessel in international waters into a combat-exercise prop…”

vladimir-putin-baltic-sea-provocation-b-r

…Ultimately, the message being sent in the Baltic Sea is central to this strategic showdown. Russian air crews are flying exceptionally dangerous maneuvers with decrepit equipment. Putin knows this; that he continues to deploy these capabilities in an increasingly aggressive manner, thus risking a military conflagration, illuminates his deeper strategic confidence. In 2016, he is so confident in President Obama’s weakness that he gambles with the lives of U.S. military personnel without fear.

We’ve come gone 180 degrees from 2008, when President Bush deterred Russian escalation in Georgia by parking U.S. military transport planes at Tbilisi airport. Eight years later, as Putin continues to double down against Obama’s anti-realism, our adversaries, from Europe to Asia, are sensing the vacuum…”

Unfortunately for America, the vacuum is between…

Trump Trashed Reagan Tax Cuts as Democrat-Called ‘Expert’ Witness

It’s not especially remarkable that House Democrats once summoned fellow liberal Donald Trump to Capitol Hill to testify about the alleged adverse effects of Ronald Reagan’s 1986 tax reforms. What is somewhat remarkable is that this clip wasn’t dug up by a conservative opposition research team, but rather by Trump’s own campaignwhich proceeded to blast it out into the public bloodstream as evidence that “Mr. Trump” is an all-caps EXPERT on economic matters. And what conclusion did his “expertise” produce? I’ll let Trump answer that question in his own words. Again, this comes via Trump’s social media director, who — ta da! — can’t vote for his boss today because he’s not a Republican

Yes, you read it right; called by House Dimocrats to testify against the Reagan tax cuts.  Trump’s clearly as conservative as The Obamao…and equally as accomplished a liar!

A wimp and a blimp; which is which we leave up to you!

If there is one pattern that is emerging from this year’s political campaigns, it is that rhetoric beats reality — in both parties.

…The convention rules that require a candidate to get a majority of the delegates, in order to become the party’s nominee for President, are also nothing new. But, here again, Trump and his followers are raising an outcry by saying that it would not be “fair” or “democratic” to “steal” the nomination from Trump and give it to some other candidate.

First of all, it is not Trump’s nomination until after he has earned it, under the rules that apply to all candidates. Nobody can “steal” what was not his in the first place.

The rules are the rules. As an old New York Yankees fan, I still have a painful memory of the 1960 World Series, where the Yankees scored 53 runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates scored 27. But the Pirates won the World Series, because the rules go by how many games were won, not how many runs were scored.

…Political parties are private institutions. They exist to choose candidates they think can win elections. How they do it is their business. Nobody has a Constitutional “right” to vote to choose a party’s nominees(Matt Drudge; are you paying attention?!?)

A party may decide to have voters in the primaries elect delegates. But, if that method fails to turn up anyone capable of winning a majority of the delegates’ votes on the first ballot, the party can then turn to Plan B, as has happened before, long before Donald Trump came along.

The time to change rules is before the game starts. If the current rules need changing, there will be four long years before the 2020 elections in which to try to create better rules. The 1960 Yankees never whined that the World Series had been “stolen” from them. They were adults who knew the rules in advance.

Any questions?!?

A Big ObamaCare Exit

America’s largest health insurer flees after incurring huge losses.

“President Obama claimed credit at a Los Angeles fundraiser last week for “the steady progress that happens when people who love this country decide to change it,” and reality is unlikely to darken his farewell tour. But for everyone else, note that the largest U.S. health insurer is quitting ObamaCare.

On Tuesday UnitedHealth Group reported a terrific first quarter, with strong performance across nearly all business lines. There was one exception: The conglomerate’s insurance exchange unit raised its projected Affordable Care Act losses for 2016 to $650 million from $525 million, after booking $475 million in red ink last year.

CEO Stephen Hemsley said ObamaCare’s instability, small market size and costly patient population “continue to suggest we cannot broadly serve it on an effective and sustained basis.” He said UnitedHealth will withdraw to “only a handful of states” in 2017.

Liberals claim this doesn’t matter because UnitedHealth was insufficiently committed to ObamaCare, as if it preferred to leave money on the table. The insurer didn’t plunge head-first into the exchanges in year one of the law like the larger industry, but the latecomer expanded to 34 states in 2016 from 23 in 2015 and four in 2014. Mr. Hemsley has been more vocal than most insurance CEOs about the long-term importance of retail, customer-facing coverage outside of the employer business. He told an investors conference last year that he decided to ramp up because he couldn’t believe the ObamaCare market “would form this slowly, be this porous, or become this severe.”

In other words, ObamaCare’s central planners can’t put their theories into practice…”

Which places their hopelessly inept performance on a par with every other Progressive planner in political history.

And which brings us, appropriately enough given the joke that is Liberal governance, to The Lighter Side

Gay pastor suing Whole Foods after finding homophobic slur on cake order

Nice brows, Bro!

“A Texas pastor is suing Whole Foods after receiving a cake decorated with an anti-gay slur he says a bakery worker added to his order. Jordan Brown, an openly gay pastor who preaches at the non-denominational Church of Open Doors, ordered a cake from the chain’s flagship location in Austin, Texas on April 14 for a member of his congregation, according to the lawsuit filed Monday in Travis County court.

gay-cake-575x575

In the store’s bakery section, Brown says he pointed to a blank, pre-frosted cake with blue icing and asked the Whole Foods employee to write “Love Wins.” The pastor paid for the cake and left the store. But it was not until he was loading it into his car that he noticed something extra scrawled on his order. He looked down and saw “Love Wins Fag” had been scrawled in blue icing, according to the suit.

For me it was humiliating. Because being a pastor who is openly gay, I’ve had to deal with this in the past,” Brown told FOX Austin…”

Sure you have; but nothing nearly as humiliating as this:

UPDATE: Whole Foods has released security video that shows that the cake’s bar code is on top of the box, not on the side. This indicates that Brown had altered the packaging. Whole Foods is pursuing legal action against Brown.

Oops!!!  Reports Brown promises to order his next cake to read, “The TRUTH Wins, You LYING Fag!” remain unconfirmed.
