It’s Friday, May 12th, 2017…but before we begin, here’s wishing LTJG Jack Wilson, Navy helo pilot extraordinaire, fairs winds and following seas as he deploys aboard the USS Reagan…along with our oft-repeated recommendation…

…his take-offs should always equal his landings.  In the finest tradition of the Naval Service dating back to the days of John Paul Jones, Jack’s been given a fast ship, for he intends to sail in harm’s way.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, when the likes of Victor Davis Hanson, John Podhoretz, James Freeman, Kevin WilliamsonNational Review Online, the WSJ and Susan Collins are all on the same side of a given issue…

…it’s good enough for us; particularly when their position is so adamantly opposed by Chucky…

…and the Bride of Chucky!

One can certainly disagree with the both the timing and handling of Comey’s well-deserved dismissal (though the answer appears to be, as Byron York suggests, Trump was waiting for until his unimpeachably non-partisan Deputy Attorney General had assumed station as Comey’s direct superior), but the fact remains, as the editors at NRO noted:

Actually, as Andrew McCarthy notes below, the cowardly Comey let OBAMA off the hook!

President Trump has fired FBI director James Comey, who had made himself eminently fireable.

Last July, Comey took it upon himself to become not only the nation’s top policeman, but its top prosecutor, explaining in a long press conference that Hillary Clinton had clearly broken the law by hosting classified information on her private e-mail server, but that there was not “clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws.” As we observed at the time, the relevant statute does not require “intent,” only “gross negligence” — which (more than!) adequately described the behavior Comey termed “reckless” and “extremely careless” — and, in any event, deciding whether to prosecute was not up to him, but to then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch. The entire event was, as longtime Justice Department hands noted, unprecedented.

…Needless to say, over the past year James Comey found himself in a difficult situation, squeezed between two major-party candidates widely suspected of grave criminal wrongdoing. But his response was, time and again, to make himself policeman, prosecutor, and judge, breaking with decades-old protocols instituted for precisely those sorts of high-pressure situations, and making the nation’s chief law-enforcement office look like a political player. The Bureau’s reputation is at a low ebb because of Comey’s decisions. One way or the other, he needed to go.

“I swear to tell lies, whole lies, and nothing but lies…

…so help me Barack!”

Forgive us for belaboring the point, but this cannot be stressed enough: as NRO’s Andrew McCarthy details below, Comey didn’t sell out to safeguard Hillary’s fat

Obama’s Conflict Tanked the Clinton E-mail Investigation — As Predicted

Hillary couldn’t be proven guilty without proving the president guilty as well.

…but to save Obama’s bacon!

Besides, Liberals should…

Here’s hoping John Koskinen and Richard Cordray are right behind Comey.

As for tales the former FBI Director was seeking additional resources for an investigation into Trump’s Kremlin ties immediately prior to his termination, as this item from The National Sentinel via Bill Meisen reveals, you can file such fables under “Fake News”:

“…The New York Times reported that Comey asked the Justice Department for more money and more staff to continue the never-ending Russia-Trump investigation:

Days before he was fired, James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, asked the Justice Department for a significant increase in resources for the bureau’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election, according to four congressional officials, including Senator Richard J. Durbin.

Mr. Comey made his appeal to Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, who also wrote the Justice Department’s memo that was used to justify the firing of Mr. Comey this week, the officials said.

Wait – “congressional officials?” Not Justice Department officials? And a Democratic senator who hates Trump? This is the Times’ evidence?

“I’m told that as soon as Rosenstein arrived, there was a request for additional resources for the investigation and that a few days afterwards, he was sacked,” said Mr. Durbin, a Democrat of Illinois. “I think the Comey operation was breathing down the neck of the Trump campaign and their operatives, and this was an effort to slow down the investigation.”

Riiight. Just like when former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid lied and said “people told him” that then-GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney had not paid his taxes for years. When challenged about his sources, Reid essentially told the media to go ask Romney about it. Sounds like Dick Durbin has picked up Reid’s old playbook.

The Washington Post echoed the Times’ claim:

Last week, then-FBI Director James B. Comey requested more resources from the Justice Department for his bureau’s investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, according to two officials with knowledge of the discussion.

Comey, who was fired by President Trump on Tuesday, made the request in a meeting last week with Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, and briefed the chair and Democratic ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday, the officials said.

But what does the Justice Department say?

Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said reports that Comey had requested more funding or other resources for the Russia investigation are “totally false.” Such a request, she said, “did not happen,” the Post reported.

Even the Times noted:

The F.B.I. declined to comment. But Sarah Isgur Flores, the Justice Department spokeswoman, said “the idea that he asked for more funding” for the Russia investigation was “totally false.” She did not elaborate.

What does she have to elaborate on? Either Comey asked or he didn’t, and the Justice Department’s official spokeswoman said he didn’t.

And yet, we have the Times and the Post publishing this garbage, once again based on anonymous sources and a #nevertrump Democratic senator.

Fake news, anyone?

Since we’re on the subject of Socialist stooges and the havoc they wreak, writing at NRO, Kevin Williamson offers irrefutable evidence Progressivism is a one-way…

Camino de Servidumbre

The road to serfdom runs through Venezuela.

In his classic monograph on central planning, The Road to Serfdom, F. A. Hayek noted something that seemed like a paradox: “Socialism can be put into practice only by methods of which most socialists disapprove,” he wrote. He argued that “the old socialist parties were inhibited by their democratic ideals” and that they “did not possess the ruthlessness required for the performance of their chosen task.” But that was not always to be the case: For every “liberal in a hurry” there is a V. I. Lenin, a Fidel Castro, a Mao Zedong, a Ho Chi Minh, a Che Guevara, an Erich Honecker ready to roll up his sleeves and start slitting throats.

Our so-called democratic socialists and their progressive allies always pronounce themselves shocked by this, though of course they have long indulged it, well past the point of being able to plausibly pronounce themselves surprised by any of it. From the New York Times’s heroic efforts to not notice the repression and terror in the Soviet Union to Senator Ted Kennedy’s working on behalf of the KGB, from Noam Chomsky’s denial of the Cambodian genocide to modern Democrats’ love affair with Fidel Castro, there is no gulag brutal enough and no pile of corpses high enough to stir in the modern progressive the sort of outrage he might feel upon, say, learning that General Electric took advantage of an accelerated capital depreciation schedule for tax purposes.

Socialism is either the unluckiest political movement in the history of political movements, one that just happens to keep intersecting with the careers of monsters, or there is something about socialism itself that throws up monsters. There is nothing wrong with Venezuelans, and nothing unusual about them: Here at home, our own progressives dream of imprisoning people for holding unpopular political views, nationalizing key industries, and shutting down opposition media. They have black-shirted terrorists attacking people with explosives on college campuses for the crime of holding non-conforming political views. And they aren’t averse to a little old-fashioned Stalinism, either, provided there’s a degree or two of separation: Bernie Sanders, once an elector for the Socialist Workers party, remains the grumpy Muppet pin-up of the American Left(And his wife’s a corrupt kleptocrat!)

“Socialism can be put into practice only by methods of which most socialists disapprove,” Hayek told us.

Are we really so sure?

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: unlike their Conservative counterparts, there are a large number of Liberals who would happily place their political opponents in…reeducation camps; complete with spacious…

…shower facilities.

In a related item, as NRO‘s Katherine Timpf reports, the University of Arizona is taking yet another politically-correct step towards Socialism:

U of Arizona Is Hiring Students to Tattle on Others for ‘Bias Incidents’

What kind of person wants to get a job policing ‘microaggressions’?

“The University of Arizona is hiring students to be “social-justice activists,” and the job description demands that they “report any bias incidents or claims to appropriate Residence Life staff.”

In other words: These kids are being paid to tattle on other kids for anything they might consider to be a microaggression, and any students who gets these jobs should probably identify themselves so that other students will know to never invite them to their parties…”

Holy 1984, Batman!

On The Lighter Side

Finally, in honor of the esteemed Thomas Sowell, we’ll call it a wrap with a few Random Thoughts on the Passing Scene.  First, regarding the supposed plans to inter The Obamao in a portion of the National Mall near the Washington Monument…

Obama’s Burial Plot Is A Massive Waste Of Taxpayer Money

…as our old friend Chris Giberson so eloquently noted, if such a monument might influence the former President to sooner seek his repose therein, it would be well worth the expense.

Second, we called it:

Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction erased

Look, cheaters gonna cheat (like every other New England Patriots!); but that’s one helluva means to get away with murder!

Lastly, as FOX News reports…

Ex-Rep. Corrine Brown guilty on fraud, tax evasion charges

To borrow a phrase from Churchill, never in field of human politics have so few taken so much from so many…and left the “so many” QUITE LITERALLY

begging to be taken for more!  There are truly none so blind as those who WILL not see!

In the meantime, forgive us if we take a moment to gloat:

That leaves only Alcee Hastings, Maxine Waters, Charlie Rangel, Shirley Jackson Lee, The Reverends, B. Hussein and the rest of the Race Hustlers to go.
