It’s Friday, April 1st, 2022…but before we begin, in what is unfortunately NOT an April Fool’s prank, Susan Collins, after holding a second personal meeting with Ketanji Jackson Tuesday afternoon, said she’s decided to support President Biden’s nominee, feeling reassured Jackson would not be “bending the law to meet a personal preference.

How Collins could trust the word of a woman who couldn’t…or wouldn’t

…provide the definition of “woman”, a person whose only real qualifications for the court are her gender and skin color, is totally beyond us.

Here’s the juice: Collins no more believes Jackson won’t bend the law in favor of her personal preferences than the Route 1 bridge over the Kennebec River in Bath, ME is available for purchase.  But Collins, just like every other Progressive politician, will do or say whatever’s required to maintain their power and the corresponding opportunity to accumulate personal wealth, without a single iota of concern as to the impact on the rights and freedoms of average Americans.

Here’s a second shot of the juice, Susie:

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, you’ll notice we’ve introduced a new poll, the genesis of which was a question posed to us by Daniel Francis: Do you believe Ron DeSantis can beat The Donald in the Republican presidential primary? We responded by canvassing two individuals we knew to be diehard Trumpeteers, and their respective reactions prompted the survey you’ll find immediately to the right of this column.

Though we were nonplussed both individuals still supported Trump, we were a bit shocked they did so even while acknowledging DeSantis had the better chance of winning.

As the great Winston Churchill observed of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Treaty, “It’s a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”: To support the draft-dodging, self-absorbed, intemperate Donald, a man to who English is a second language, over the Ronald, a man possessed of Trump’s only strength (combativeness), but none of his weaknesses, being smart, articulate, self-controlled and possessed of a detailed knowledge of whatever issue is at hand; A counterpuncher who actually lands hard, fact-filled blows rather than simply flailing while filling the air with meaningless hyperbole.

Here’s a triple shot of the juice: The Donald’s served his purpose and outlived his day.  His only role in the 2024 election MUST be on the sidelines as a cheerleader.  Had he assumed this role in the wake of the 2020 election, the Senate wouldn’t soon be confirming Ketanji (Kiswahili for “She who is full of sh*t”) Jackson to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.

Next up, every time we think the Biden clown car couldn’t sink any lower in its craven political pandering, they proceed to plumb ever deeper depths of deviancy:

Biden administration endorses transgender youth sex-change operations, ‘top surgery,’ hormone therapy

WH encourages gender reassignment surgery, puberty blockers, hormone therapy for transgender minors

“…The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Population Affairs released a document Thursday titled “Gender Affirming Care and Young People.” The same day, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Child Traumatic Stress Network – another subset of the HHS – released a parallel document titled, “Gender-Affirming Care Is Trauma-Informed Care.”

The HHS documents describe what it calls appropriate treatments for transgender adolescents, including: “‘Top’ surgery – to create male-typical chest shape or enhance breasts;” and “‘Bottom’ surgery – surgery on genitals or reproductive organs, facial feminization or other procedures.”

The NCTSN document goes out of its way to assure the public that the use of gender-affirming methods such as surgery and hormone replacement are not child abuse – most likely in response to recent policy decision in Texas that made such treatments illegal…”

Think about it: With war raging in Ukraine, inflation soaring to new record heights, and illegal aliens crossing our southern border at will, the 46* clown car deems now as the appropriate time to advocate for the irreversible surgical mutilation of minors.

We’re tempted to say kill them all and let God sort them out.  But now, being a Christian man, like Auntie Em…

Leaked videos show Disney officials pushing LGBT agenda, saying DeSantis wants to ‘erase’ gay theme park employees

The company has openly criticized Florida’s controversial parental rights law

“…In videos posted by journalist Christopher F. Rufo, Disney officials can be seen talking to employees at an “all-hands” meeting about the Florida bill, recently signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, and saying some teams at Disney have implemented an openly “gay agenda.”

In another video, Disney’s Diversity and Inclusion Manager Vivian Ware explains to employees that the company is ditching the words ladies, gentlemen, boys, and girls in its theme parks in order to not alienate transgender children.

In a third video, an LGBT activist accuses Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and his press secretary Christina Pushaw of trying to “erase” LGBT employees at Disney.

One of the videos shows a Disney official explaining that the company is committed to pushing “queer stories” and putting in place procedures to ensure that the company is creating enough “gender-nonconforming characters.”

Disney corporate president Karey Burke said in another video that she would like to see at least 50% of Disney’s characters in the future identify as LGBT or a racial minority. (Which is only equitable, considering gays, transgenders Blacks and Hispanics combined constitute less than 34% of the population.)

The Walt Disney Company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox Business…”

Let’s be clear on this: A law which prohibits exposure of children grades K-3 to sexual deviancy seeks to “erase” adult LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ employees at Disneyworld.

Yeah…

MSNBC highlights a Florida teacher is concerned he can no longer discuss his personal life due to new education law

“…While Bernaert insisted that sexual identity is not in his curriculum, he argued that Florida should allow conversations regarding sexual identity to occur in school.

“We should be able to have discussions, and that’s what we’re encouraged to do in kindergarten. Personally because my kids do have questions. They want to know who my partner is in pictures outside the classroom, and I should be able to speak to them,” Bernaert said.

Vossoughian asked whether Bernaert was concerned about whether he could discuss his home life. Bernaert admitted his concerns and said discussion about his home life is part of his role as an educator.

“That’s what we do as educators, we build relationships with our kids. And in order to build relationships, you talk about your home life, you talk about what you do on the weekends. That’s building community. It scares me that I am not going to be able to have these conversations with my children because they’re going to ask about what I did on the weekend. I don’t want to have to hide that my partner and I went paddle-boarding this weekend because then they will ask, ‘What does partner mean, Mr. Bernaert?’ I’m worried, can I tell them what it means?” Bernaert asked…”

Let’s be even clearer on this: A law which prohibits exposure of children K-3 to sexual deviancy means a gay teacher can no longer, if you’ll forgive our graphic French, discuss oral and anal sex with kids who haven’t the faintest clue what sex is!!!  Wow: What an infringement on his civil liberties!!!  We’ll REALLY go out on a limb and affirmatively state a teacher’s personal life has no place whatsoever in the classroom at any level.

Meanwhile, FOX News has just lost another viewer who is unwilling to underwrite the network’s celebration and promotion of mentally illness and immorality.

Moving on, Jim Geraghty questions whether…

Does Vladimir Putin Care About Casualties on Either Side?

Sometimes it is worthwhile to encounter and consider a truly contrarian take, and the New York Times’ Bret Stephens, the right-of-center columnist who outrages Times readers with metronomic regularity, offers a big one this morning. As bad as the war seems to be going, Stephens asks, what if Vladimir Putin didn’t actually miscalculate?

Suppose for a moment that Putin never intended to conquer all of Ukraine: that, from the beginning, his real targets were the energy riches of Ukraine’s east, which contain Europe’s second-largest known reserves of natural gas (after Norway’s).

Combine that with Russia’s previous territorial seizures in Crimea (which has huge offshore energy fields) and the eastern provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk (which contain part of an enormous shale-gas field), as well as Putin’s bid to control most or all of Ukraine’s coastline, and the shape of Putin’s ambitions become clear. He’s less interested in reuniting the Russian-speaking world than he is in securing Russia’s energy dominance.

Stephens notes that as bad as the self-imposed exile of so many Russians is, causing a “brain drain” that is harming their economy, it is also removing the people in Russia most opposed to Putin’s reign and most likely to push for change.

Our Michael Brendan Dougherty is of a similar mind, contending that our perception of Ukrainian success is driven, at least in part, by only knowing their version of events: “Nobody writing reports about Ukraine’s ‘defeat’ of the initial invasion knows or has access to Russia’s actual war plan, without which it’s impossible to know for sure whether Russia really has already failed.”

With all of that said, it is extremely difficult to believe that what we’re seeing now was the Russian war plan all along.

What if Putin doesn’t really care if he finishes the war with a smaller conventional army? Think back to that Russian military cathedral; in some minds, including Putin’s, the purpose of the Russian soldier is to fight and die for the glory of the Russian state. If the era of conventional army warfare is coming to an end, Putin is ensuring that the Russian army goes out with a bang, with one last grand war of conquest against the so-called Nazis and drug dealers and so on. Sure, Russia will have a smaller army when the invasion war is done, but swaths of Ukrainian territory will be returned to svyataya Rus (Holy Russia), and the Ukrainian territory that isn’t Russian will be devastated. If conventional armies are less and less cost-effective, Russia will have maximized its territorial gains before warfare evolved and those armies went out of style. And the Russian Orthodox Church will remember Putin as “Vladimir the Great.”

Call it a feeling, but something leads us to believe Jim’s headline was rhetorical in nature.

Then there’s another sextet of special selections certain to cater to inquiring Conservative minds:

(1). You have to love an article trumpeting Biden’s order to release 180 million barrels of oil over six months from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve which doesn’t bother to put what is pure political theater into proper perspective, as our Energy Editor Jeff Foutch explains:

Good news everybody. Oil price worries are a thing of the past. No, Joe isn’t about to authorize domestic drilling. But he’s going to release 1 million barrels of oil. That’s right, I said 1 million barrels, as The New York Times tells us:

Biden Plan Would Release a Million Barrels of Oil a Day From Reserve

Sounds exciting. The Times tells us more:

President Biden is considering a plan to release one million barrels of oil a day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for as long as 180 days, a move that would add a large amount of oil to the global market

A “large amount of oil”This comes after Biden’s 50 million barrels of oil release last year. Anyone remember how that worked out? What does a million barrels a day come out to?

In 2020, the United States consumed an average of about 18.19 million barrels of petroleumper day, or a total of about 6.66 billion barrels of petroleum per year.

So that’s about enough oil for an hour and a half. It’s something, but mostly it’s a hollow political charade. We need to increase domestic supply instead of moving around what we already have. Biden doesn’t want to increase the supply so he’s playing musical oil chairs.and hoping people don’t notice how useless this latest version of the stunt is.

(2). Writing at NRO, Joel Kotkin warns us of the rise of THE most dangerous class and the coming revenge of the disappointedSpoiler alert: It’s the same set of circumstances which led to the success of the Bolshevik Revolution.

(3). The Journal’s Kim Strassel records how, despite Washington, under the cry of “emergency,” spending $6.6 trillion in fiscal 2020 and $6.8 trillion more in 2021, we’re essentially Covid broke, with the 46* clown car claiming without $22.5 billion in emergency dollars now, we again face Covid apocalypse:

Where did all the money go? Everywhere but to Covid. The Rescue Plan handed $350 billion in “relief” money to the states, and the Associated Press recently described its uses. Some $140 million is going to a high-end hotel in Broward County, Fla. Colorado Springs, Colo., is dumping $6.6 million into golf-course irrigation systems. An Iowa county is using $2 million to purchase a privately owned ski area. Massachusetts is ladling $5 million to cover the debts of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate.

Massachusetts would have done better to honor the memory of the dishonorable Teddy by devoting the $5M to the fight against drunk driving…particularly across narrow bridges

…with no guardrails

at night:

(4). In a commentary highlighting Chris Wallace’s hypocrisy, NRO‘s David Harsanyi tells the former anchor of FOX News Sunday to give him a break, accurately observing “Wallace is obviously more comfortable living in a media culture that allows liberal conspiracies and biases but not conservative ones.”  Put another way, Wallace needs to remove the log from CNN’s eye before claiming FOX needs to extract the speck from its.

(5). If you’ve a choice in hiring an attorney, based on this report from The Washington Free Beacon, we’d suggest opting for anyone other than a Georgetown grad.  Here’s a hint why from a mandatory first-year course on property law:

(6). In a forward from the Nickel, The Babylon Bee reports Chris Rock has smoothed things over with Will Smith by sleeping with his wife.

No reports yet of Smith bitch-slapping anyone at The Bee.

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s these from George Lawlor…

…the lovely Shannon (with a slight assist from Yours Truly)…

…Balls Cotton…

…and Larry Hoffman:

And in a follow-up to Wednesday’s Sports Section, it’s been reported…

Bruce Arians is stepping down as Buccaneers head coach, taking front office position

Tampa Bay is hiring defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, as the new head coach

Bruce Arians is stepping down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take a front office position with the team, according to a report.

The move comes less than 14 months after Arians, 69, led the Buccaneers to a victory in Super Bowl LV over the Kansas City Chiefs. Arians said his new role – which starts during draft prep for the team this year – would be “senior consultant for football,” NBC Sports reported.

“Bruce Arians is transitioning to the front office as our Senior Football Consultant,” the Buccaneers wrote on its official Twitter account. “Todd Bowles has been named head coach.”…”

Color us conspiratorial, but coming as this does immediately in the wake of the NFL’s latest craven capitulation to political correctness, it cannot be mere coincidence.

Finally, though we’ll do our best to broadcast, owing to a mission trip down to Mexico followed by a visit to our sister, we’ll likely be radio silent through the weekend of April 16.  So until possibly Monday, April 18th (yes, Tax Day 2022!)…
