It’s Monday, October 10th, 2022…but before we begin, two quick questions.

First, why isn’t the Republican Party blasting this statistic across the entire country…

…24/7?!?  They aren’t known as The Gang That Can’t Shoot Straight…

BTW, seeing as the First Crime Family is unquestionably on the payroll of the ChiComs, would it be unreasonable to wonder if 10% of the Mexican cartels’ take isn’t going to the Big Guy as well?  Just sayin’.

Second, why is it a cadre of armed FBI agents descended on the family home of one of the 11 pro-life activists targeted by Biden’s DOJ for peacefully protesting outside an abortion clinic in Tennessee, while…

And do even get us going about people being jailed for strolling through the Capitol.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

Leading off the Monday chapter of The Gouge, Jim Geraghty puts 46’s latest off-the-cuff, ill-advised assertion into proper perspective, as he warns…

Armageddon’: Biden’s Blurting Is a Danger to Us All

My first thought is that if the president of the United States is genuinely worried that a regional conflict in eastern Europe is leading us toward a nuclear exchange and “Armageddon” — Joe Biden’s words, not mine — then he probably should not announce it in off-the-cuff remarks during a private fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidates at the Murdochs’ Manhattan home. That seems like the sort of thing that warrants an Oval Office prime-time address.

And yet, here we are

As CNN dryly observed: “It’s striking for the President to speak so candidly and invoke Armageddon, particularly at a fundraiser, while his aides from the National Security Council to the State Department to the Pentagon have spoken in much more measured terms, saying they take the threats seriously but don’t see movement on them from the Kremlin.” Striking is one word for it, yes.

This is another statement that is likely going to get walked back. “Following Biden’s remarks, officials emphasized to CNN Thursday night that they had not seen any changes to Russia’s nuclear stance.”

Biden’s specific words, according to the AP, were, “I don’t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.” I suppose that is indeed one form of attempted deterrence, but Biden’s words indicate that the use of a Russian tactical nuke would inexorably lead to an American nuclear response.

Let us be exceptionally clear: The U.S. may want to help Ukraine, but Ukraine is not a member of NATO, the U.S. is not obligated by treaty to defend Ukraine, and Ukraine is not covered by the U.S. nuclear umbrella. A nuclear attack on Ukraine is not the same as a nuclear attack on the United States, and it should not be treated as such. The detonation of a Russian nuke on Ukrainian soil or off Ukraine’s coast would be an outrage and a war crime. It would demand the imposition of all kinds of serious repercussions on the Russian state. But an American nuclear counterstrike is not and should not be one of those repercussions. (We have all kinds of ways to hit Russia hard that do not involve nuclear weapons. For example, that’s a nice power grid you’ve got there, Russia. It would be a shame if something happened to it.*)

The U.S. cares a lot about what happens in the Russia–Ukraine war. But we don’t care so much that we’re willing to lose some cities over it.

Biden’s off-the-cuff “Armageddon” warning is in line with his past “minor incursion” and “for God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power” gaffes. Biden has never been a disciplined thinker or speaker, and now that he is almost 80, he often blurts out the first thing that pops into his head. (Further evidence that Biden’s remarks were completely spur-of-the-moment and not any kind of planned announcement or release: Biden attended another Democratic fundraiser earlier in the day and didn’t mention Russia at all.)

Biden keeps saying things that are not U.S. government policy, and his staffers are then forced to rush out and insist that he didn’t mean to say what he just said. (CNN reported, “a senior US government official expressed surprise at the President’s remarks, saying there were no obvious signs of an escalating threat from Russia.”)

There is a time and place for strategic ambiguity — for leaving your opponent unsure of what your actual “red lines” are and what you’re really willing to do. But the stakes don’t get much higher than this, and miscalculations tend to have their own form of compounding interest: Each subsequent underestimation or overestimation of the opponent gets further from the mark.

For what it’s worth, United Kingdom defense secretary Ben Wallace recently declared that Putin is “highly unlikely” to use nuclear weapons, but that he is acting irrationally.

Looking back at NR’s writing after the first month of the war, our John Hillen was prescient, saying that, as much as we hated facing down a strong Putin, a weak Putin could be even more dangerous: “An embittered, embattled Putin in a declining nuclear state is a different actor from Putin the expansionist regional leader.”

*Yes, I know, the last time I wrote something like that, a few months later, someone came along and actually sabotaged the Nord Stream pipelines…”

After terming Biden’s latest monumental gaffe as “reckless”, “former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo suggested to Shannon Breem, “the Biden administration would have been better off using “quiet diplomacy” in pushing Putin to understand the consequences of using nuclear weapons. “I hope that they are doing this quietly,” he added.”

Knowing the capabilities of the Biden clown car…or perhaps more accurately, their complete lack thereof…you can bank on the fact they haven’t been.  Here’s the juice: As this meme from Speed notes…

Meanwhile, Mad Vlad has accused Ukraine of committing terrorism after a truck exploded in the middle of the bridge connecting Crimea and Russia Saturday, killing three people and severing a critical supply line to the forces of a man who committed an unprovoked act of war against a neighbor without any justification whatsoever.  As TLJ would say, “Yeah,…whatever.”

Turning back for a moment to First Crime Family, NRO is reporting…

Investigators Believe They Have Enough Evidence to Charge Hunter Biden with Tax, Gun Crimes

Stay tuned, but in the meantime, give us your thoughts on the likelihood of Merrick Garland allowing Hunter’s indictment in our latest poll located at the top right section of the page.

Since we’re on the subject of addled drug addicts, in all seriousness, what is the governor of California smoking?!?

Gavin Newsom Shamefully Mocked for Calling on an Emergency Tax to Combat $7 a Gallon Gas Prices

“…“Only an economically illiterate Democrat would think enacting yet another state tax on petroleum companies will bring about a decrease in gas prices LOL. You couldn’t make up this level of stupid if you tried,” another Twitter user wrote.”

Moving on, here’s a decade of items specially selected for inquiring Conservative minds:

(1).FOX informs us an NYU professor was fired after students complained his class was too difficult.  Yeah…they want the easy organic chemistry syllabus!

Shown below are these same students raising their hands in response to the question…

“Who believes studying adversely impacts your social life?”

(2). In a related item, students at the University of Southern Maine are demanding their professor be replaced for saying that only two sexes exist.  One cannot begin to imagine the harrowing nature of their experience:.

“…“I asked [Professor Hammer] how many sexes there were,” [Student] Leibiger said. “She said, ‘Two.’ I felt under personal attack.” “I let her know I didn’t think she was qualified to teach a class about positive learning environments,” Leibiger said. “It’s the ultimate irony.”

According to the report, 21 of the 22 students in Hammer’s class then decided to walk out during a class session on Sept. 14 and demanded for a restorative justice meeting to be held with the university’s School of Education and Human Development. The facilitated restorative justice meeting was conducted, but students told the news outlet that Hammer still didn’t budge, standing firm in her position that only the male and female sex designations exist.

In total, according to the report, almost two dozen graduate students in the class demanded that the university replace Hammer. They believe that the professor is transphobic, according to the report. Because of her decision, students don’t want to return to the classroom, according to the report, stating that they’ll only come back if a new instructor is selected.

Interim Provost Adam Tuchinsky told the Bangor Daily News that it is providing “support” to students through the incident.

While the university has thus far refused to remove Professor Hammer, they have offered another section of the same class with a different instructor.  Something tells us these tender little snowflakes will require support the rest of their miserable, woke lives.

(3). NRO is reporting mere hours after a PayPal announced a new policy permitting the company to fine users $2,500 for “misinformation, the company reversed course in the face of withering criticism on social media, with former president David Marcus blasting the company for even thinking it could seize customers’ money for finding their views objectionable.

Seems to us they were simply mirroring the manifestly illegal actions of the feckless fool dozing in the Oval Office.

(4). Brittany Bernstein records on Sunday, Stacey Abrams dismissed criticism she didn’t properly concede the 2018 race for Georgia governor to Brian Kemp:

“…Abrams, who is now running for governor again in a rematch against Kemp, discussed a 2019 video of her saying she had “won” the race during an appearance on Fox News Sunday…“I very clearly say I know I’m not the governor, but what I will not do is allow the lack of nuance in our conversations to dull and obfuscate the challenges faced by our citizens,” she added.

Reports that immediately following her statement, the corpulent candidate of color was heard to demand…

…remain unconfirmed, but highly likely.

(5). The Journal‘s Editorial Board …

The madness of the Biden Administration’s energy policy has been horrifying to watch, like a car crash except all Americans are passengers. The latest bizarre twist is that the White House may ease sanctions on Venezuela and its dictator Nicolás Maduro in an effort to increase the supply of oil on the global market.

As the Morning Jolt noted, Welcome to the Consequences of Your Actions, Democrats:

Politico reports that Democrats are “seething” about the decision by OPEC+ to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day.

Well, fellas, if you don’t want OPEC+ to be in a position where it can influence U.S. gasoline prices a month before the election, you need policies that minimize the U.S. market’s dependence upon the global oil market. This means maximizing U.S. oil production and expanding U.S. refinery capacity.

BTW, here’s quick “green energy” FYI…

…along with a video demonstrating the unbridled hypocrisy of the adherents of the junk science that is the theory anthropogenic global warming:

(6). Writing at NRO, radiologist Pradheep J. Shanker discusses the details of California’s tyrannical COVID ‘misinformation’ law Leave it to Sacramento to codify the suppression of the truth.

(7). FOX informs us Safeguard Defenders, “a pan-Asian human rights organization, published an investigation last month detailing a Chinese campaign to combat “fraud and telecom fraud” crimes committed by its citizens living abroad.”  Seems the Bidens’ biggest source of ill-gotten gains has established some 54 “police stations” in over 30 different countries, including the United States.

Since the campaign kicked off in April 2021, approximately 230,000 Chinese nationals have been “persuaded” to come home to face criminal prosecution, according to the Ministry of Public Security in China.

As Safeguard Defenders’ Laura Harth stated:

“A big part of this transnational policing repression campaign is also aiming at silencing the community, silencing dissent, making sure that people are afraid enough,” Harth told Fox News. Some reported tactics used to compel Chinese nationals to return include threatening and intimidating family members in China. A suspect’s children can be banned from attending school, and their family’s bank accounts can be frozen and their property confiscated.”

Hmmm…threats and intimidation:

They’ve taken a page right out of the Progressive playbook!

(8). In response to 5th Circuit Court Judge James Ho pledging not to hire any Yale law school grads as a result of the university’s unconstitutional practices, earlier this week lawyer Vivia Chen questioned, “And what are the odds that other federal judges, even unabashed conservative ones, will trash the resumes of awesome Yalies because of the school’s woke reputation?” As NRO‘s Nate Hochman notes, if the growing momentum of the 14-federal-judge-strong boycott is any indication, those odds appear to be quite high.

Oregon serial rapist set to be released from prison this year

A jury found Richard Gillmore guilty in 1987 of raping a 13-year-old girl

An Oregon serial rapist known as the “jogger rapist” is scheduled to be released from prison in December after serving nearly 36 years, almost the entirety of his maximum sentence. Richard Gillmore, who got his nickname because he would stake out victims while jogging by their homes, was arrested in 1986. He confessed to raping nine girls in the Portland area in the 1970s and 1980s but was only convicted in one case due to the statute of limitations.

A jury found him guilty in 1987 of raping 13-year-old Tiffany Edens the year before. She is his last known victim.

Danielle Tudor accused Gillmore of raping her in 1979 when she was a teenager. She has publicly opposed his release. “If he had been able to have been charged for all the rapes he committed, he’d never be getting out,” Tudor told KOIN.

Gillmore has been classified as a sex offender at the lowest risk of reoffending and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life because of his rape conviction. The low-level classification means the state and county are not required to alert surrounding residents if he is living in their area.

While we understand the statute of limitations restriction, we cannot begin to fathom classifying a serial rapist who is only 63-years-old at the lowest risk of reoffending.  Like…what…he gave up rape for Lent?!?

P.S. Just a reminder we’ll be heading to Luray Wednesday for our youngest son’s wedding, to Annapolis the week after for our 45th reunion and finishing off the month in Savannah for our niece’s nuptials.  And while we won’t be totally radio silent in the interim, our offerings will be sporadic through the end of the month.

P.S.S. Oakmont was great, but we have say the Field Club and Fox Chapel were incredible.  Both are must-plays if you’re ever in the Steel City.

On the Lighter Side

Though it’s a bit lengthy, this compilation of Michael Knowles Q&As with repressed Progressives provides invaluable insight into their hopelessly twisted yet hilarious “thinking” and complete and utter inability to deal in facts and reasoned debate.
