It’s Wednesday, October 19th, 2022…but before we begin, does anyone have a list of politicians and bureaucrats who hold shares in Intel?

Intel’s Multi-Billion Bait And Switch

The chip manufacturer cheered on a $76 billion subsidy package for the industry, then announced capital spending cuts and mass layoffs while maintaining payouts to shareholders.

Just a couple of months after Intel’s multi-million dollar lobbying effort succeeded in winning microchip companies billions of dollars in no-strings-attached corporate subsidies, Intel is reportedly planning to lay off thousands of workersThe potential layoffs come only weeks after the company announced a shareholder dividend at the same rate as the previous few quarters — amounting to a total of about $6 billion in annual dividends.

The sequence of events confirms warnings about the so-called CHIPS Act from a vanishingly small number of critics who cautioned that without changes, the legislation would let companies use the money to finance payouts to wealthy investors, and would not obligate the companies to expand their investments in domestic jobs.

And yet, those critics were ignored by politicians and pundits of both parties eager to shovel federal money to a handful of powerful tech companies. Indeed, when Sen. Bernie Sanders (Ind.-Vt.) attempted to attach conditions to those subsidies — including a ban on stock buybacks, a cap on executive pay, a government equity stake, and union neutrality provisions — he was thwarted by Democratic leaders.

At the time, Democrats blocking Sanders’ initiative were bolstered by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, who insisted that if the legislation did not pass immediately, the company could could move factories overseas and hold up already-planned investments. When lawmakers ultimately passed the bill in July, Intel abruptly began changing its rhetoric about new domestic investments: That very same day, the company announced it was cutting back on capital spending by billions of dollars, but still intended to issue a “strong and growing dividend” for shareholders.

The Biden administration has not yet announced which companies will be receiving the CHIPS Act subsidies, and for what projects. Before the legislation passed, Intel was expected to be a primary beneficiary of the subsidies…”

If Intel gets a dime of that money, you’ll know the First Crime Family is among its shareholders.

Now, here’s a somewhat rushed installment of The Gouge!

First up, NRO‘s Isaac Schorr tells us…

Independent Women Swing Hard Toward GOP Despite Democrats’ Abortion Push

Republicans made massive gains with independent women in recent weeks as Democrats ramped up their messaging on abortion ahead of the midterm elections.

Forty-nine percent of voters plan to vote for the Republican nominee to represent their House district while 45 percent said they’d back their Democratic opponent, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday. Of particular note was a 32 point swing among independent women toward the GOP. In September’s iteration of the poll, Democrats boasted a 14 point lead among that demographic, but by October, Republicans held an 18 point advantage.

While Democratic officials and progressive commentators had suggested that the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade might lessen the expected electoral blow of the midterms, the swing toward the GOP among independent women — the group most heavily targeted by Democratic strategists — suggests that their focus on abortion might be to their own detriment.

In a TV segment last month, Republican operative Matt Gorman was rebuked by his fellow panelists for suggesting that abortion “is not in the top four of issues.”…”

As Jim Geraghty recently noted:

When Democratic lawmakers don’t want to talk about the policies they enacted, I suspect voters see that as a de facto admission that those policies didn’t work.

This after insightfully observing back in early August:

When inflation is raging at a 40-year high, and gas and food prices are skyrocketing, the incumbent party is going to get thrashed.

And maybe, just maybe, there’s a little bit more than inflation and the economy that’s driving women to the GOP.  Perhaps, just perhaps, independent women care less about the right to slaughter the unborn than they do what they’re children are being exposed to in their local schools:

Not to mention, as this next item relates, whether their car’s still going to be in the grocery store parking lot after they’ve bought food they can hardly afford:

We Don’t Need You’: How Local Dems Are Handcuffing Cops and Driving the Rise in Crime

Jesse Spitzer was taken into custody in late January after leading law enforcement on a chase through the Northwest United States. Spitzer was originally wanted in Snohomish County, Wash. on burglary, assault, and stolen-vehicle charges. Subsequently, neighboring Chelan County tacked on their own burglary and theft charges. After several days of trying to track him down, and several more incidents, Spitzer made his way into Idaho. Finally, after firing on officers on two separate instances as they pursued him, Spitzer was apprehended in Montana.

Authorities quickly learned that even though he faced charges in Washington, Spitzer had intended to return. “He was going back to Washington state because they couldn’t chase him, ” explained Chelan County sheriff Brian Burnett. That’s because in July 2021, House Bill 1054 took effect in the Evergreen State after being passed by the Democratic state legislature and signed by the Democratic governor over the objections of Burnett and state law-enforcement associations.

Before they can pursue a vehicle, the new law requires that officers ensure that four conditions have been met: (1) An officer must have either a reasonable suspicion a driver is impaired due to drugs or alcohol, or probable cause to believe that he has committed certain kinds of violent crimes or sex crimes; (2) pursuit must be necessary to identify or apprehend the suspect; (3) the driver must be an imminent threat to the safety of others such that the risks of not pursuing him outweigh the risks of pursuit; and (4) a supervisor has authorized pursuit.

Burnett told National Review that these restrictions represent a threat to public safety. Anecdotally, that’s evidenced by Spitzer’s sojourn across the region and, statistically, it’s backed up by the data. Prior to HB 1054’s taking effect, the state recorded, on average, around 2,000 stolen vehicles per month. Since its passage, that figure has soared, reaching heights in excess of 4,000 per month.

“What we’re seeing on an average daily basis — whether it’s our jurisdiction or one of our neighboring jurisdictions — is there’s people that don’t stop for us all day long,” said Burnett. “It can be anything from a stolen vehicle, to somebody that we have probable cause on, or just a basic traffic stop, and, you know, next thing on it’s pedal to the metal and they’re off and running,” he continued.

Burnett and his fellow law-enforcement officials had foreseen these issues and lobbied against the bill, but he said lawmakers refused to take their concerns seriously“The response early on — because we have a Democratic-controlled Senate and House, and it’s a fairly large margin there — it was almost to the point of, I’ll call it arrogance,” remembered Burnett. The message the legislature sent to the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs was: “We don’t need you, we don’t need your opinion,” he added. “We were begging them and telling them and giving them reasons why: ‘Please don’t do this, it’s bad, bad policy,’” he said, but they ignored the pleas, because their majorities (57–41 in the House and 28–21 in the Senate) empower them to impose their will without compromise.

But public opinion will probably assert itself eventually, given that crime is surging in the state: Washington set records for homicides in 2020 and then again 2021…”

Here’s the juice: The best efforts of Progressive politicians and their MSM shills to focus on abortion while disassociating the former from their responsibility for the whirlwind they’ve sown, the majority of Americans know both their game and goals, and they’re not buying what Socialists are selling.

Speaking of Socialists, The Washington Free Beacon takes us…

Inside Raphael Warnock’s Secret Low-Income Apartment Building: Pests, Filth and Killer Elevators

A low-income apartment building owned by Raphael Warnock’s church is plagued by pests, maintenance problems, and filth, according to residents—and at least two people have sued the building this year after the elevator allegedly collapsed on them. Residents of the Columbia Tower at MLK Village complained about living conditions in the building, telling the Washington Free Beacon that garbage is left to pile up in the storage rooms for days, creating an “overwhelming trash smell,” common areas aren’t maintained, and the air vents produce a “sickening” amount of dust. Tenants also said the elevators often break down, and handicapped residents have had to call the fire department to carry them to their rooms.

The allegations follow a Free Beacon report that found Columbia Tower had attempted to evict at least eight low-income residents over unpaid rent since the start of the pandemic—including one tenant who owed just $28. Warnock serves as senior pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, which, through a charity it controls called the Ebenezer Building Foundation, owns 99 percent of Columbia Tower, according to records obtained by the Free Beacon. It’s not clear what Warnock’s role was in overseeing Columbia Tower. A repair grant Ebenezer Building Foundation filed in June, however, said Warnock “works closely” with Ebenezer’s executive pastor “in managing the overall vision, ministries, and operations” of the church.

The news raises questions for Warnock, who has campaigned as an ally of low-income Georgians and people with disabilities. It could also draw new scrutiny to Warnock’s compensation from the church, which paid him a $7,417-per-month, tax-free housing allowance last year—an arrangement that allowed him to circumvent federal limits on outside income for U.S. senators.

Court filings reviewed by the Free Beacon appear to back up claims from Columbia Tower residents that there are problems with the living conditions at the building…”

And though Warnock denies his church evicts tenants, The Washington Free Beacon confirms three eviction notices were filed last week alone, with more than a dozen more filed during the scamdemic.

Here’s hoping Herschel is highlighting his opponents hypocrisy in campaign commercials running 24/7, and that the congregation of Ebenezer Baptist Church get to see Reverend Warnock back in the pulpit full-time come the New Year.

Moving on, here’s a sextet of special selections certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds…like yours:

(1). According to FOX, Chuck Grassley is claiming new whistleblower documents reveal not only that the Big Guy “was aware of Hunter Biden’s business arrangements and may have been involved in some of them, but the FBI has “voluminous evidence” related to the potential criminality of those ventures.  The gentleman from Iowa is demanding an end to the agency’s “continued silence” over allegations of agency corruption in the Biden investigations.

(2). Reacting to a single juror’s refusal to understand why Nikolas Cruz deserved the death penalty for slaughtering 17 of his fellow students, Kurt Schlichter makes a compelling argument why civilization cannot exist without righteous retribution.

(3). An item from Gateway Pundit forwarded by Balls Cotton details how a house on Sanibel Island miraculously survived Hurricane Ian only to fall prey to the Tesla in its garage.

(4). Writing at NRO, Michael Brendan Dougherty echoes our thoughts as he avers its high-time we ended the COVID farce, particularly in light of what Best of the Web correctly classifies as yet another in an unending series of contradictory communication from the White House.

(5). In a headline which left us scratching our head, FOX reports Boston University researchers claim to have developed a new, more lethal COVID strain with an 80% mortality rate.  Three questions quickly come to mind: (i) Seriously?  After all the bullsh*t we just went through?!?; (ii) Why would BU even announce such a morbid “breakthrough”?; and, (iii) Does anyone doubt for a moment if the Bidens could make a buck off the sale of the splicing sequence to the ChiComs they do it?

(6). As Jim Freeman writes, after the mixed reaction First Lady Jill Biden received Sunday night at a National Football League game in Philadelphia, one can only wonder how Eagles fans might have responded to an appearance by her husband.
