It’s Monday, January 9th, 2023…but before we begin, if you don’t think you’re being desensitized…

think again!

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, in a forward from Nick, Legal Insurrection reports…

Capitol Police Arrested Ashli Babbitt’s Mother on Anniversary of Capitol Hill Riot

The U.S. Capitol Police arrested Micki Witthoeft, mother of Ashli Babbitt, on Capitol grounds on the two-year anniversary of the Capitol Hill Riot. Babbitt is the only person killed during the riot. Lt. Michael Byrd fatally shot the unarmed Babbitt when she tried to force her way into the Capitol Building.

The police claimed Witthoeft committed traffic violations:

Capitol police said that a group of demonstrators were ‘illegally blocking traffic’ on Independence Avenue, SW, near First Street, SW. ‘The group did not have a permit to demonstrate on Capitol Grounds,’ the said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

Officers said that they established a clear police line to prevent the group from moving further east and asked the group to ‘get out of the road’ threatening their arrest. ‘The sidewalk was open, a woman in the group was given multiple warnings to get out of the road,’ police said. ‘Instead of getting out of the road, the woman refused to leave, turned around with her hands behind her back, and asked to be arrested.’

Witthoeft was arrested for two Capitol Traffic Regulations obey an order, as well as blocking and obstructing roadways…”

Here’s the juice: Can anyone recall a single Black Lies Matter protestor getting arrested for blocking traffic anywhere in the country, let alone charged with “demonstrating” without a permit…

…in the wake of George Floyd’s suicide-by-fentanyl-overdose?!?

Here’s Tucker’s take on this total travesty of justice:

In a related item, NRO‘s Dan McLaughlin details the duality of…

Ashli Babbitt and the Warped Politics of Police Shootings

The January 6 protester and the Capitol Police officer who shot her deserve the same treatment we give other police shootings.

Recall this scene: At the height of the George Floyd protests, an angry mob of Black Lives Matter protesters burst into the federal courthouse in Portland, aiming to stop a criminal trial they felt was rigged against the just outcome. The crowd was armed mostly with crude implements such as flagpoles and helmets, but they were aggressive and inflamed, and they overwhelmed the outnumbered marshals. A small core of the protesters were basically professional agitators, hardened in street combat, but most were ordinary citizens at the end of their tether, fueled by a stew of righteous anger and ignorant paranoia.

It was an intense moment. On video, one protester can be heard screaming “F*** the blue!” A white federal officer was pointing his gun in a warning stance. One protester yelled, “There’s a gun! There’s a gun!” As they burst through a door inside the courthouse, the officer fired, killing an unarmed black woman. He gave no verbal warning before opening fire. The protester who was killed was not physically imposing. She was a military veteran from the other end of the country who had descended upon the protests, ablaze with grievance and convinced that injustice and unequal application of the law were ripping the country apart.

You’ll have trouble recalling it, of course, because this didn’t happen — at least, not exactly as I have described it. The riot wasn’t in a Portland courthouse in the summer of 2020; it was in the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. It didn’t aim to stop a criminal trial, but a joint session of Congress. The protesters-turned-rioters were supporting the right-wing “stop the steal” cause, not the left-wing Black Lives Matter cause. The officer who fired his weapon was black, and the protester who was killed was white. Otherwise, the basic facts are the same.

The rioting protester who was shot to death was Ashli Babbitt, a white, female, 35-year-old, 14-year veteran of the Air Force from California. The police officer who killed her was Lieutenant Michael Byrd, a black Capitol policeman. Babbitt was the only provably direct fatality from the January 6 riots, although there were other protesters who died that day, as well as deaths among the Capitol Police, that might reasonably be attributed to the January 6 riot. Riots are dangerous things, and they swiftly run out of anyone’s control.

And yet, across much of the media and the political universe, people have reacted in the exact opposite way from how they would have reacted to precisely the same facts if the races, causes, and locations had been reversed…”

Case in point, courtesy of an item from The Times of Israel in which Tzemach Richter highlights the stark contrasts between the treatment of Kim Potter, the White female police officer who mistakenly shot a Black male wanted for a weapons violation as he resisted arrest during a traffic stop, and Michael Byrd’s summary execution of Ashli Babbitt.

Here’s a double shot of the juice: Like FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi before him, Michael Byrd is guilty of murdering his unarmed victim.

Next, FOX tries to maintain the fiction the WuFlu is still a threat of pandemic proportions, bleating the…

New COVID omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 is ‘spreading like wildfire’ in US

“…Dr. Siegel added that so far there’s “no evidence” that XBB is more virulent. “If it’s spreading like wildfire and it’s not killing more people, that means it’s less virulent,” he said. “But we don’t know the reason for that.”…”

Soooo…if it’s not more deadly, WTF CARES?!?  This makes it no worse than the annual variety of the flu or the common cold; Did anyone ever shutdown a country’s economy or enforce ineffective mask edicts over them?!?

And who’s “we”?  Or is Marc Siegel, FOX News “medical contributor” and NYU medical professor suddenly a virologist or epidemiologist working on the cutting edge of COVID?!?

Moving on, here’s a septet of items certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:

(1). The owner of the Buffalo pro-life pregnancy center firebombed last June network is hiring private investigators to find  the terrorists responsible due to concerns the FBI is “slow-walking” its investigation.  The only tasks the FBI can efficiently execute these days are those they’re legally prohibited from performing!

(2). In response to the purportedly deliberate shooting of a teacher by a six-year-old student in Newport News, VA, many parents are suggesting more metal detectors, mental health counselors and stricter visitor policies could reduce the risk of a recurrence.  We suggest finding out how a first grader came to be in possession of a loaded pistol.

(3). In yet another demonstration actual science has given way political correctness, the once highly regarded Scientific American published the spurious claim Damar Hamlin’s collapse highlights how the “terrifyingly ordinary” nature of football’s violence disproportionately affects Black men.  The family of Chuck Hughes might disagree, along with those, like our father, who played the game without the benefit of face masks or high-tech helmets and pads, all of whom were White and made a pittance compared to the players of today.

We found this statement particularly telling:

While I am not aware of research that compares the rate of injury between Black and white football players, heatstrokes, ACL and labrum tears, ankle sprains, bone breaks, and concussions are just a few of the consequences of how these bodies are used.

Then WTF did you write this article?!?

Here’s a triple shot of the juice: Even were the author’s ridiculous reasoning accurate, which it most demonstrably not, no one’s ever forced men to play professional football, either today or…

…in Dad’s day.

(4). NRO‘s Nate Hochman relates what happens when the Progressive PC camel gets its nose under a Conservative state’s tent.  And make no mistake about it, Kristi Noem was instrumental in lifting the edge of South Dakota’s tent.

(5). Erika Prater, adjunct professor at Minnesota’s Hamline University, was terminated after a student complained she had shown an image of Muhammad

…in a class on Islamic art, despite Prater having issued a syllabus warning to potential students the class would contain images of holy figures, including Muhammad and Buddha, as well as cautioning her class a painting containing an image of Muhammad was going to be displayed a few minutes ahead of time, giving anyone who might be offended by such imagery an opportunity to leave.

(6). Meanwhile, much further south…

(7). And since we’re on the subject of the Lone Star State…

God bless Texas…at least those parts outside the Socialist urban enclaves.

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

…and hello Hogwarts!

Editor’s Note: We erred in our conclusion the Christmas morning attacks on four Tacoma-area substations were the work of ecoterrorists.  Cell phone records led the FBI to two Puyallup men who cut the power to more than 15,000 households to rob a store, thus adding federal charges for attacking an energy facility and possession of unlicensed firearms to whatever robbery charges they face.   Guess there was no way to cut just the power to the individual store.
